Also before you start anything. Memorize Hiragana and Katakana. Know how to pronounce, read, and write all of them along with variations.

Consider it your initiation ritual, because you cannot study the language without them.

I did years ago, and a fucking good thing too, I'm playing Fire Emblem: Awakening and looking at the English lines out of curiosity now and then, it had a lot of straight up rewrites.

That's not the best list. The Persona series is definitely more difficult than any Final Fantasy, and Fatal Frame I, II, and IV (haven't played V yet) aren't that bad, I played them easily enough four years ago.

DQ in general are pretty easy, but some of the later ones feel a little more difficult just because there's more dialogue and more complex dialogue.

Google Translate handwriting feature is fucking great, so I use it to write stuff and paste the characters in Jisho or Weblio.

I have the google translate app but for some reason the camera translate option always gives an error message about not connecting to network. I can't find any solutions to fix this.

Google keyboard can do it on mobile.

Well, google cracked down on certain auto translators because their algorithm is being fed mostly obscene phrases. I like it enough for helping me with deciphering compound sentences but it is hardly good for anything else.

I'm a waster, so I've been stuck at 10k vocab cards in Anki for like a year or so because I stopped adding new cards and never continued.

I can read most stuff pretty easily, and stuff like TV doesn't pose any kind of problem, so I guess I'll just pick up the rest from reading.
