it's level design and pacing is absolutely atrocious, and there's far far too many scripted slow-mo segments/turret sections
Gears of War is a better TPS because you get to play that for more than 3 minutes at a time

It really is, but the cutscene shit is constantly cited as a flaw. If I'm not mistaken you can skip the cutscenes, though. I don't know if that was introduced in a later patch, or maybe it's just an available option after you beat the game for the first time, but the story was enjoyable so I didn't mind the cutscenes the first time around. I fucking wish Rockstar would dabble in stuff other than GTA/RDR these days because they have so much gold: Bully, The Warriors, Max Payne, Midnight Club, Manhunt, but thanks to GTA/RDR online we won't ever get anything else again.

Worse shooting, better presentation and gun feedback. All guns are hitscan so they functionally all work the sameway, defeating the whole point of Max Payne's bullet time mechanics.
