Let me ask you guys a question to get more opinions on this. I was playing a game of mario party with some friends over dolphin, and as mario party usually goes some bullshit went down
>Entire game was really close, I was leading in the beginning, but towards the end was only 20 coins behind first place
>Last turn 1st place lands on a square with another character and has to battle them
>He was going to bet a single coin to make sure he still wins the game
>Playfully goad him, and he bets exactly 19 so that he'd still be ahead of me in the end
>He didn't notice the tile space was red though, so after he lost the battle he lost 3 more coins, putting me in first place
>Final mini game comes up and it's team mini game
>My teammate throws the game to 'help' the guy who made the mistake betting too many coins

I told them I thought it was bullshit that after the entire game they'd just throw the ending, and it lead to this big debate over it.
They were in last place and the outcome of that mini game wouldn't have changed them being in 4th place. Is it wrong to think them throwing just to change the overall winner of the game is bullshit?

Idk how anyone puts 4 above any of the GameCube ones let alone the N64 ones. Each board has a gimmick that doesn’t allow you to pick which way to go, the paths are all blocky and flat, and too heavily dependent on mini/mega mushrooms. Mini games are great but what’s the point if there aren’t good boards to play them on?

The boards blend together and look too similar to one another. It's also really dull and bland to look at, especially when you spend so much time on them because movement speed and event processing is so much slower compared to the game before it.

Almost half of every board was blocked off by mini mushroom pipes. These not only required you to have the right item, but also use them at the right time. Roll a 6 or higher and overshoot your chance at a pipe? Tough shit. Spend 5-8 turns walking around to try again. Within range and use a Mini Mushroom? Oops, you rolled a little too low because you can only roll 1 - 5.
In previous games, you could pay coins to pass certain obstacles. Yes, there were Skeleton Key gates, but at least that was a passive item that you could use when you got to the roadblock instead of having to rely on heavily rigged dice rolls for everything. God help you if a star ended up behind one of those pipes. If your only answer to reaching a star was "Use a Chomp Call/Magic Lamp", something's wrong.
Mega Mushroom was also flawed, but at least the game didn't force you into using it to access half the fucking board.

This OP triggers me because I actually had an experience with a store clerk when I was younger and I asked him that I wanted a copy of Mario Party 1 but he told me that they didn't have one but when I pointed to the Mario Party 1 box he told me that it was Mario Party 3 because of that stupid dice block and I never ended up getting the game because stupid young me believed him at the time.
