I'm looking to get into a competitive FPS and these seem to be the main options nowadays. Pros/cons of each from a competitive standpoint?
I'm looking to get into a competitive FPS and these seem to be the main options nowadays...
well cs is has been around for 20 years and there's no way you'll be good enough to break into the scene, overwatch is a joke and siege is cancer but easy to get into competitively out of the 3 if you have any real talent. your best bet is siege
they all suck but CS isn't a hero shooter so go with that
I'm not interested in going pro, just playing at an above-average level eventually
Overwatch is a joke
CSGO is counter strike it's a classic and still feels good to play even 20 years later. If you already played 1.6 or css you'll like it but don't expect much change it's more of the same
R6S is call of duty gunplay, with lean, destructible walls and moba characters, fun to play, some great ideas, but bad execution not making it worthwhile in the long run
>*verwatch
Not competitive, not fun, barely even an fps, missed the boat.
>Csgo
Matchmaking is a literal cancerfest, no exaggeration there are hackers in every single game in both prime and non-prime, especially as you climb in rank. The matchmaking is so bad aswell that most games are decided from the moment you click "search"
>Six siege
Never played it, honestly looks like an even slower paced csgo with even more focus on strategy/meta/setups etc. rather than skill
>Good fps games
Splitgate was fun, but died instantly. Don't bother with BR's. Quake champions is unironically good with plenty of raw fps skill, I promise if you are good at quake champions, you will be good at every other fps on the market right now. It will improve all your fundamental skills
Battallion 1944 is pretty fun with good matchmaking, it's like a blend between COD and csgo, that's actually semi-competitive and is still fairly pure.
Honestly though we are in a dark time with FPS games, good ones can't really get popular due to the prevalence of BR and other trash. Hopefully halo infinite will be able to tap into this major gap in the market.
oh then counterstrike easily. ranked mode in siege sucks dick at diamond (full of cheaters, exploits and bugs, and 16 year olds bugging out on adderall; coming from someone who was actually diamond and not some twitchfag outsider observing from the comfort of my stream) and there's no competitive environment like esea or faceit to escape all the shit.
overwatch isn't enjoyable as a competitive shooter because you could be ballin out and have 5 gold medals every game and still lose because le forced 50% and the fact that it's a team game and you can't win with retards after a certain level.
counterstrike is highly competitive and has competitive private leagues that you can play on to escape mm turmoil, has a good amount of depth and has been around for years so there's infinite sources to always better and there's always going to be better players than you to challenge you to become better. Yea Forumseddit hates on cs but it's honestly the best competitive shooter with an actual userbase on the market in my opinion.
They all have their flaws, but CS:GO is certainly the most consistent of an experience. That is, if you want to get better there are obvious things you need to work on, and you're not worrying as much about cheating (it does exist mind you, but nothing like in R6S) or when the next patch may fuck everything up with balance changes since CS has had a solid formula since 1.6
>Quake champions is unironically good
Is it easy to find a match in NA?
Xonotic if Free as in beer and freedom, why wont people play it?
because its not on steam
Arena shooters are so niche, they make Fighters look like LOL in terms of popularity
Makes me laugh my ass off whenever zoomers on Yea Forums bring them up. The only time I see arena shooters mentioned on here is when someone's trying to talk shit about another esport genre.
All garbage, R6S is probably the "best"
Holy fuck this, I used to be like this when I was 14. Arena shooters fags are the ultimate pretenders
>overwatch
bloated with shit characters and extremely tiring to play, very unrewarding gameplay
>csgo
absolute fossil of an fps which is still more playable than other two, but full of hackers, retards and shit servers
>siege
extremely boring and almost every 'operator' since year 2 has been an already existing one reskinned. sit watching a doorway for 2 minutes every round and die in one shot, only braindead zoomers can find this entertaining, it takes no skill whatsoever and you'll be left in the dust when a game requiring skill comes out
It is a shame
You have this wannabe Quake pros talking non stop how amazing their shit is, there is a huge obnoxious army of these cunts that wont stop yapping. Yet, non of the fags play arena shooter
Exactly, they ejaculate so hard over the webms they post, it's as if they themselves did those feats. Now, I am not the best but I love 'em, play primarily UT99 with bots random user maps from eons ago.
>overwatch
not a shooter, hardly even a video game after all of the shit "balance" patches
>csgo
worst gunplay in a video game, hard pass
>siege
boring to some but has functional gunplay so easily the best listed game
Pick up siege if you really want something now but if you can wait, wait for halo
jesus christ your underaged is showing
>your
typical CSfag
Now to stay on topic.
Overwatch is a terrible "hero" class shooter, a failed abortion of TF2. Level design doesn't matter, nothing matters, you just have to have the right party and stack on top of each other, wait to unleash the ultimate attacks and win.
Quake Champions is an eyesore to look at, terribly optimized and the additions made to the arena shooter formula just castrates the whole experience imo, but it is still alright. Too bad it is dead.
I guess I could recommend CSGO. As user above mentioned the gunplay is weird for a newbie but once you understand it I think it's passable. It's not like CoD, no ironsights, no perks, it does not hit where you aim but rather every weapon has a specific burst fire pattern, like the recoil shots go over the crosshair, but you can easily master this shit by just playing casually.
>he can't read
typical underaged b&
They are not niche, they're just having a drought because the only two series that can make arena fps come back blew it.
Quake champions is managed like shit, it plays well because its Quake but everything else about this game is shit and UT18 never got much attention even before Epic turned all its attention to Fortnite.
There's nothing niche about arena fps if you ever played online, just pick up a gun and frag as much as you can during 10 minutes, there's many genres that are harder to get into and yet still have more players than arena fps.
But yeah, for an indie to make arena fps come back... I wish it could be true but I don't think it'll happen without a giant.
