Square Enix thinks that Dragon Quest fills the turn-based "niche" and FF should be something else. That's literally all it is. They don't want two turn-based series. Dragon Quest is turn-based, Kingdom Hearts is action, FF is a terrible mix of the two.

I find it hilarious how Type-0 was probably the one that actually realized the "myth" the best and it started as fucking Phone game, and not even a Smartphone game at that. I mean it was still a poorly presented mess, but considering what the "sibling" games were. People complain about the partition, and are otherwise hyped. Look at actual responses on YouTube, look outside Yea Forums.

The "strategy" usually boiled down to using Haste and then unloading 9999 attacks and changing equipment for elemental/status-inflicting enemies as necessary, but that's still objectively more strategy than a game like FF15 requires.

Final fantasy 14 is the series saving grace at the moment but the fact that it’s an MMO scares away a lot of fans. Shadowbringers is fantastic and truly a worthy addition to the series. Unfortunately no mainline series has come close to being considered even “decent” since final fantasy 12.

Go back to the simpler 1-5 style setting with crystals, airships and the like, maybe have a job system too. People are completely fatigued of future settings and emotional edgy characters.

Had to be rebuilt and based on WoW to be redeemed in the MMO space. ARR is mediocre in storytelling with Heavensward being enjoyable. Stormblood was utter trash and the start of Shadowbringers looks good, so as it stands only 50% of the Story is even good with this being right about the only good thing about Stormblood being a non-Main Story raid series being good given Matsuno's control. Hell it was so well received rather than relying on their own storytelling they're getting Nier's director to make their 24-man raid series.

Numbered or otherwise? Im pretty sure Dissidia (The first one) came out without any major issues.

Numbered it has basically been rough since 11, i know some kiddies don't remember but 12 had some quite sharp critique between the "rushing" and "IT PLAY ITSELF", and that one lead dude "leaving". 13, 14, and 15 all had their issues with varying degrees of damage control of varying degrees of success depending on who you ask, im, quite sure some faggots here will sing praises to XV Royal and FFXIV: ARR-Shadowbringer.

It strongly implies that every black mage you see is dead by the epilogue.How Vivi made his sons isn't explained. Garland created his genomes and the Lifa tree/mist was a by-product of the process so it's possible Vivi managed something similar, which would make his sons closer to zidane and kuja than the black mages. That's all conjecture though

For me the last good FF was 10, and 12 was passable. Since then I'd say the single biggest factor has been how "japanese" they've become. Lots of girly looking, spiky haired fag characters with banal "I WILL STOP YOU" dialogue. They play like a sailor moon episode in contrast to the older more mature styled games with gritty worlds, characters, and more mature/amusing dialogue.

That's the single biggest factor for me. Plus the worlds became uninteresting. FF13 was just battle hallways, and FF15 was huge but nothing to do in it.

The other planet (Terra) is populated by things called genomes, which is what kuja is. They're basically artificial bodies that the planet's original occupants (the race that created Garland) can have their souls grafted into. Most of the ones you meet are soulless and kind of blank slates.

Like an MC that is from an entirely different world like Zidane and Tidus. Characters with memory loss. Story about the “flow” and cycle of life and death. Characters that are human test subjects and etc. I just find this to be interesting in retrospect.

Also i would argue WHM also got off easy with the new Lily system since LMAO SPAM CURE1 for a CHANCE of a Lily wasn't exactly a riveting concept.

WHM is in a great spot, Lily System is much more manageable and the DPS is great.
SCH overreacted hard about their Nerf, Eos and Selene are still fucking good even without going into Seraph, Mainly because most SCH "Mains" were ones who loved to DPS.
AST got ass fucked again, but that was their default state anyway since AST was a fucking mistake even back in HW when it was added.

Hefty homogenization around the table reducing Job Identity, but in the case of WHM that was all around buffing, im expecting the nerf bat to get slammed on WHM at any moment as a result.

Been looking for a thread to talk about this. I just beat this, thought it was good with quite a few annoying flaws, but really enjoyed some story moments. Was there supposed to be a connection between the Ifia tree and the evil forest? They both have big vines chasing people and petrify in some way. MCH is a mess. Fun on a casual level, horrible if you actually know how to play
SAM used to be boring and they added nothing to make it more fun other than bigger numbers.
NIN got away a lot better than most jobs, fun rotation but they lost all their utility except for trick and their damage is awful now
SMN seems fugged but that's what everyone said at the start of Stormblood and it turned out really strong once people got gud
MNK is terrible now. The looping tornado kick rotation was great and added more decision making to the job but TK is completely useless now since it does less damage, you will never drop greased lightning and using it at any point other than a >12 second break is a dps loss. Bootshine PB is also lame as fuck.
RDM is still the least fun job in the game
PLD is decent, the way they handled Sword Oath is better than how they butchered WAR but without having to manage aggro or tp all you're doing is popping cooldowns for busters and moving the boss, overall a downgrade.

SCH and AST are completely fucked because apparently you need to ruin every other healer to get WHM out of the cuck shed.
BRD lost it's identity, the only utility it has left is Battle Voice yet it also does shit damage.
WAR lost so much of it's uniqueness by losing Stance Dancing, Raw Intuition, Mitigation on Fell Cleave, Lifesteal on Decimate and all it got back in return is bigger numbers on fell.

Riddles forcing you into a stance actually made every stance have a purpose instead of just using FoF like in Heavensward or FoF for the first 15 seconds of a pull and then FoW for the rest of it like it is now in ShB.

Oh user, the best FFs are the ones with a healthy mix of both, even FFT has a Mech in case you forgot. The only actual problem is that your cooldowns misallign for burst phases, you have nothing for trick attack, queen doesn't interact with anything else you do, wildfire does less damage than a Fire IV

Drill and Anchor. They're on the GCD so they will naturally be delayed over the course of the fight and on top of that you'll save them up for raid buffs which is shitty when you're sitting on 90 battery and don't want to let it hit cap.
It also sucks when you have hypercharge up but drill is still on more than 10 second CD because you're just gonna sit there and wait, using it without anchor / drill is a waste.
It's generally poorly thought out.

It's not clunky. The MNK rotation right now is smooth. What is clunky is dropping all of your GL stacks every TK rotation and having your GCD time jerk around.

Monk isn't bad, it only plays like garbage.
It still does better damage than dragoon and can adapt to fights much better, Brotherhood also powercreeped and is now on par with Litany.
The problem is that you're just doing Buff Combo > Damage Combo on loop for the entire fight, only broken up by shitty Bootshine > PB > DK > Bootshine > Demolish > Twin Snakes > DK > Bootshine every 160 seconds.

It has become entirely based around not losing your stacks for the entire fight and it's boring.
SSS is almost never needed and never part of your regular rotation unless there's a long transition about to happen and you can SSS > TK > Anatman for 12-15 seconds.
Also Anatman fucking sucks. You can never use it last second because it has like a full second of delay before it freezes your GL and Stance Timer and during the opener you can actually lose 2 seconds because you pulled on a server tick and now you're sitting there waiting for the next one.

You go back in time and tell them to stop making games after VI.

Get emotional push a character in the spotlight, kill the character. Don't want to kill the character? Have him stay half of the story then make him go to the villains.

Tldr. Go turn or atb based.

I would've agreed with removing fists in heavensward but stormblood showed that they can each serve a unique purpose, maybe give fists of earth 5% damage resistance for your party. I feel like that would make people use it defensively again for big transition attacks or even just huge aoe damage during mechanics.

He did. The character art notes even have yuji horii comments on the process of creating the characters with Toriyama. For example, horii wanted Serena in a mini skirt but Toriyama promptly rejected that idea and instead designed her default outfit to be more maidenly like. FFXV could've been really good if it had another year in development. I imagine FF7R will be the same but they'll have two more games after the first one to refine things. Unfortunately, the revenue just hasn't been there for them to really invest in their games. However, I'd say Shadowbringers has been the most well funded attempt that was executed extremely well. It gives me hope that their confidence in their projects and their willingness to expose themselves to more risk is growing.

Trade unwanted dungeon drops to your GC officer for seals. I hit 90k pretty often and spend them on ventures, glamour prisms/dispellers, spiritbond potions, durability potions, and food so you always have that +3% exp buff. You can also buy those scrolls that give you an additional xp buff for the next 100k xp as a crafter or gatherer.
