Fraps does many things, what exactly do you need?

OBS

It's not updated for years.

OBS studio is the best recording software on any platform.

Works on Linux too.

Is there a program that shows which Direct3D version a game uses?

As long as it still works why do you need it to be undated every week?

Bandicam

Use OBS, tinker with settings a little bit, it's literally perfect.

afterburner overlay can do this

Thanks.

OBS
What rock are you living under that still uses FRAPS?

>not buying a monitor with built in fps, crosshair and timer

fucking poorfags. Get the fuck off my board. Video games are a high class activity. Dont mud up my fucking hobbies with your smoothbrain bullshit. Remember you exist because we allow to exist and because we show mercy. Dont make me fucking regret that motto.

Obs, but I personally use shadowplay to record the past 20 min without needing to open obs.

unregistered hypercam 2

>record 10s video with fraps
>20Gb

/thread

OBS, Shadowplay for small clips

how is fraps even still a thing?

OBS

whatever gives you the unregistered hypercam 2 watermark

only a complete fucktard would still use anything else over OBS nowadays

my OBS recordings are always choppy as shit and there is always noticeable quality loss

how do I fix this shit

get a better computer

Hypercam2
Preferably the unregistered version

Bandicam or OBS

OBS / Geforce Recording / Radeon Recording

what the fuck even is OBS
I just use rivatuner / afterburner, since I need it for the statistics anyway

Don't fix what ain't broken

I use OBS to record stuff but I still have fraps for the fps counter.

>tfw really like geforce experience's "record last X minutes" feature but the entire overlay shit is buggy as hell

any good alternatives that don't involve recording 24/7 and don't kill fps?

Dxtorey works for me

>using a streaming software for taking screenshots

It also destroys your SSD.

Try OBS

>screenshots
Video recording isn't the same as taking screenshots. I have fraps opened for that at all times, and I only open OBS when I want to record something.

OBS has that too.

If your just trying to record video and have Nvidia use shadowplay for sure. It has very little performance hit. If your on AMD I think they have similar driver level video capture but I cant personally say if it's any good or not. OBS is also a good option.

use sharex for screenshots/region captures

There are monitors with built-in crosshair overlays? I can see at least a couple of uses for those.

rtss

The need to be constantly monitoring FPS comes from autism, play a game for about an hour with FPS counter to see if there's nothing wrong then fucking switch it off, if there are significant dips you'll notice them, if some variations occur and you don't notice them then it's a non-issue.

I had a great time recording with OBS then suddenly video were choppy and low quality, it took me some time mindling with settings to find the quality back but it's not as consistent and files are bigger than they were.

shadowplay if youre not autistic about quality

everything else has a performance hit

RTSS and a 120hz screen yo.

>using specialized software for taking screenshots
Press F5 or printscreen you fucking ape.

MSI Afterburner has this functionality. I stopped using gfexp for the same reason

Might as well ask here.
Any alternative that takes screenshots but ignores overlays like steam's fps counter?

Started using nvdia freestyle filters which do not show up via steam screenshots that ignore the overlay, and the nvdia capture takes gets the filters but also the fps overlay counter. So I need a 3rd option.

can't you disable Steam's FPS counter?

Why use this if steam does it already?

Well yeah, but it's a useful tool to have as I mess with graphic options.

ffmpeg

/thread

Cause you need to add pirated games to your library.

>printscreen
What if you want to take multiple screenshots?

Bandicam

>record raw frame data with no compression
>2 minute video is 10 gb

literally anything is better.

Same thing happened to me, make sure you're recording in flv if you aren't, you can later convert them to mp4 with OBS itself.

Won't name pictures with the game's title.

For screenshots, Lightshot
app.prntscr.com/en/index.html
For recording/streaming, OBS

This thread made me launch OBS and it updated, please don't mess with my settings...

>using steam

Then just fuck off you goddamned faggot. Shit.

Windows 10 game mode overlay.

Action is decent

Radeon relive

OBS has a save last x minutes option?

Well, it is actually broken an not supported anymore (since 2013); it causes crashes with many DirectX 11 and 12 games, some games/Fraps itself even warn you while launching certain games

Yep. It's called a replay buffer in the settings. You can even set it up to launch on start-up.
obs64.exe --startreplaybuffer --profile ShadowPlay --collection ShadowPlay --minimize-to-tray
With a recording profile called ShadowPlay and a simple Scene Collection called ShadowPlay where you just stick a display capture.

Just use Geforce Experience. It has an FPS counter too, it doesn't get in the screenshot when you take one with their tool. Any other overlay does however.

>geforce experience

that would be hypercam 2, not registered

Using a program for screenshots is beyond stupid.
