I can't handle when a character dies and I pretty much quit when I found out the final boss forces you to sacrifice two characters no matter what. Seriously fuck whoever made that decision. I would've played to the end savescumming at least but fuck me, right?

The entire point is learning to accept losses and bouncing back from them. Literally the first thing you see is the game telling you that heroes will die and quests will be abandoned. The fun is in succeeding despite the odds being against you.
Why did you want a happy ending where everybody sits around and sings kumbaya?

I used to think that way too but once you just accept how disposable your characters can be I find it actually helps you get a lot better at playing games like darkest dungeon

I'm about to give you knowledge you may not want to have. I dsicovered it by accident and I wish I never did because now I'm always tempted to do it If you hit alt+f4 as a character dies but before the next turn they will be alive when you reload. Even if they died of a heart attack they will be alive with 0 health and 100 stress and won't get a heart attack unless their stress value changes and remains above 100

Then this type of game isn't for you. These games are supposed to invoke upset feelings and loss at the death of your soldiers, it makes death actually have an impact and your characters health has actual value since you can't just rub some magic item on them to make them all better. Don't ever play X-com.
