Apparently the custom gun mechanic was something they were trying to do in the first one, but the engine was just too shit. The tried it again in the second one, but instead decided to just make a lot of gun variants that matched suits.

They don't die, but cutting them apart sends them into temporary incapacity while the pile of biomass considers what new form to reshuffle into.
