Practically nothing. Chances are you'll know who the mole is long before the game lets you figure it out. It plays out like a movie, so if you discover anything yourself you have to wait for the game to catch up. You don't actually have to use your brains and put anything together yourself.

The bomb being a fake in 2 sums up perfectly why the writing in these games is terrible. Nothing ever actually matters or has consequence. Things happen just to have a melodramatic scene which ten minutes later doesn't even matter anymore. Kaz can be stabbed and left to die and then be back on his feet and fine 2 minutes later. These games are full of this shit. It's not even "twists" because that would mean things would have to be foreshadowed or at least still have consequence. But literally everything that you think is happening can be undone at any moment. RUBBER BULLETS is the most extreme example but the games are full of this garbage. It only annoys me because when people point out how shit the gameplay is they defend the games by saying "you idiot, you play for the story" but that makes no sense when they're written so badly.

Judgment is an improvement when it comes to writing. (It's not like it could be worse, though) Combat being fixed still feels a long way off, lets hope that's the next thing they try work on.

Been playing for over 100 hours and never seen this once.

Either way, you will inevitably start to feel bored. You will walk from pointless conversation to pointless conversation. You will read and read and read while character models stare at each other lifelessly. You will do the same unchallenging fights hundreds of times over where enemies pose no threat. You will stare at cutscenes that play out in the slowest way possible. You'll tell yourself the story has gripped you while trying to ignore how badly written it is.
You will wonder why Yea Forums and various ecelebs hyped up this series, and begin telling yourself that YOU must be wrong, not them. You'll tell yourself it's good just to feel a part of something.

They remove the guards that bounce you during attacks and they'll have fixed one of the many problems they themselves introduced. They clearly know it's an issue considering all the extracts and the shattering introduced in Judgment. It better go soon though, it's really a killer for the combat but Yagami's slow movesets also don't help matters.

Tak is a smart boy who actually takes part in the plot and the only thing that's kinda dumb is him having such a blind spot for Emi's murder, but it's not on the level of RUBBER BULLETS or MARK 2.

The games have strong moment-to-moment character writing but the stories are almost always contrived nonsense. The last act of Yakuza 2 and its attempts to tie all of the plotlines together with nonstop last minute twists is a trainwreck

It's not even the cutscenes that bother me (even though there are a lot and they're quite slow) it's the hours of conversations you have to sit through while character models stand around staring at each other blankly. There is literally hours of this, it's what you spend most your time doing. And by the time you're fighting the last boss, less than 0.00001% of them actually mattered. Sometimes I feel like Yakuza games are more like timesinks for people with absolutely nothing to do instead of games. They could all be great if they stripped back the tedium but it seems what most people want is 100 hours of "content" even if only 10 of them are enjoyable.

If you remain in combat too long cops will show up and there is a random chance this will happen.

I won't deny I don't have much going on in life so it's nice to have something that will distract me as long as a yakuza game. western games usually don't have more than 8 hours in them and I'm not a fan of rpgs. yakuza is ideal for avoiding life for a while. It still is quite easy to land and does too much damage. On higher tier foes who block too much you can just do STT charged and they'd be stunned and lets not forget you can also do wall-strikes or vault strikes to stun them as well.
Granted last two won't be working on bosses who go to ex mode themselves but you can still rely on STT attacks.

It does strong damage and it charges up your heat. It also charges your heat during ex-mode.

Charged heavy is so good in this that I don't even use tiger drop.

You also only use the 300 frame on 1, 2, 6, and 7. Everything else should be using the 250 frame unless you paid for DLC for some reason. If you befriend the guy in the sewers you can buy the Peerless Tile for 10,000 SP, and then just savescum until you start a round in wareme. Are you just planning to fight Amon or do you want 100%? Because you have to learn the game for 100%, there's no cheesing it due to the Three Color Straight and having to get 10 rons or tsumos in the two other parlors, 30 times in Tachibana, then you need to win in wareme 5 times, get a three color straight, get 5 hanemans, and a couple other things.

The bosses seem to gain more HP the more you fight them as well. Sakakiba and Honda went from yellow bar to green bar to blue bar by the time I got to the final chapter. I can't imagine trying to get all four of them in time to unlock the friendship Side Case if you left it toward the end. Even when they all had yellow bars I barely got to Koga with 6% left.

Yakuza threads only started to be bad when idiots started gatekeeping their secret club from people who enjoyed 0. I started playing at 4 because that's the first one I have access too and have bought all of the games after that and went back and played 2 on an emulator. When I mentioned I liked 0 everyone sperged. I don't understand gatekeeping.

Were you in Yakuza threads before 0? They were the last good threads in this shithole now they are every bit as bad as the rest. I don't care that people are getting into the series late I just wish they would play all the games and talk about thing besides the recent shitty games.

I feel like Yakuza could benefit from being less cheesy like this game was. Even the really dramatic shit in 0 was prefaced with all the rubber bullet crap.

Even if you get the Japanese version it's going to have the new Hamura unless you completely deny the patches. Japanese copies are also like $70 or $90 now for the non-New Price version because of them having old Hamura on the disk.
The new Hamura is pretty good, in general every scene and encounter in the game makes Hamura out to be a conniving and power tripping middle age guy rather than someone who looks a bit older like the original Hamura. Honestly, new Hamura is pretty great at the role, especially near the end. I guess they really wanted to do their best, especially since he's so prominent.

Ah interesting, I know there was a massive piece of text that the japanese twitter linked to (I think it was on the main judge eyes/judgement website) that kinda gave important notes on the differences between the old and the 'new-price' version. I can't remember what it said about updates but I guess if the original actor gets patched out with an update there's no point getting the original, as patches are normally needed for bugs/glitches.

You can still get it at 5000~6000 for the original if you know where to look, but better act fast. You'll also need forwarding as well if outside Japan.

I didn't check the newer patches, but if that's the case you really do need to be check the logs, there have been quite a lot of those.

The differences between the original and the New Price version are:
>New Price is ￥4000 instead of the ￥7400 price.
>Has the western cover as well as a new cover as a reversible art.
>Original has Hamura on the cover and a white background behind Yagami, the new one has a smoky filter and no Hamura.
>Comes pre-patched with the new Hamura patch.
You would also need to play offline for the whole duration with the original release because every time you launch the game it would try to update it again. Outside of patch packs I don't know what else you would miss, I'd assume some performance patches considering 6 came with some by default in the western release but were incremental in the JP release.

You can only go up to the latest one. If you know the exact update number and how to call it from Sony's servers you can get that one instead but it requires proxies and a bunch of other things (It's how you can still do the Comrades trophies in FFXV for the main game, not the standalone client).

How? Invent two new characters. For Neo Serena, invent a new Mama who's temporarily running the place by having her mention that the actual Mama got married (to Makoto Date) and was on honeymoon. As for Sky Finance, have a guy running the place as its actual owners (Shun Akiyama and Hana) at Osaka maintaining a branch there.

You can always reinstall the game but you need to have the right patch for your saves.

Say you saved at 1.1. If you upgraded to 1.2, then you cannot go back easily. You can reinstall but that would be at 1.00. If you update it goes to 1.2 directly. Stopping at 1.1 is tricky and I've only heard that it's possible but never tried that.

For this game I think the original is quite playable, though I'm not 100% sure. However a notable factor is the later patches let you take screenshots / videos late into the game. You can always check the logs for the details though, I think they are posted online.

Didn't you also get massive black boxes like in Ishin and 0 for your screenshots on some of the earliest patches? I remember seeing screenshots of that and was worried, and it wasn't a video recording thing, these were just normal screenshots.

Kenzan Kiwami is an idea they're floating around right now since they didn't remaster the original and it does need it for the gameplay side of things if only due to the disgusting amount of missables. Ishin's up in the air though, we haven't seen it in a survey in several games now.

Nope, all are the small version. You can get that if you took a screenshot from a video recording though.

I played Zero for the story and combat. Played Ishin for the combat. Kiwami 2 had somewhat enjoyable combat and passable story.

I played the rest hoping for anything close what those first two delivered on. Sadly, I've been let down.
