This is the only JRPG I've ever liked
Panzer Dragoon Saga by far, no other RPG even comes close
OMG I LOVE PERSONA 5 SO MUCH IT HAS WAIFUS, CUTE WAIFUS AND WAIFUS
Not SMT5. Also I would say SMT is more akin to dungeon crawling than most RPGs. Definitely not typical for the genre. My personal favorite RPG and game of all time was Persona 4.
But if you are "curious" about other games in the genre, and have no clue where to start... going back to Chrono Trigger is often considered a very good starting point into the genre of JRPGs.
I didn't really like SMT4 that much, as the bosses never tell you straight up what to "not do" t becoming impossible. The game allows you to use skills that lessen dmg types, or block them entirely; but then bosses can just start spamming almighty attacks. That's very cheap in my opinion.
im gay
Valkyrie profile for being unique
>it's another Persona-babby gets filtered by a real game episode
never gets old
this has to be pasta
>in
SMT SJ is really fun
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is my fav.
Speaking of SMT... try Nocturne, IV Apocalypse (is direct sequel to IV), Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, maaaybe Persona Q if you don't mind Etrian Odyssey, and DEFINITELY try Soul Hackers.
>inb4 b-b-but 3.9 user score on metacritic
Ignore the idiots.
>That's very cheap in my opinion.
Yeah players should just be able to sparm Tetrakarn and Makrakarn and be literally untouchable imstead.
>3.9 user score on metacritic
what happened?
SMT Strange journey, TWEWY. Also, though I'd never call them 'the best game', I love Atelier series. Bought every Atelier game on day1 since Meruru on ps3. The synthesis system in every single one of their games has been enjoyable for me(not Firis though, that game was garbage).
I honestly have no idea, user.
Someone review bombed all the Megaten games with bots a few months back for seemingly no reason
SMTIV is a bit flawed gameplay-wise and the story kinda falls apart towards the end but I like the world a lot and all the small details like the relic flavor text pointing out how Flynn knows nothing about the modern items from Tokyo.
Of course the OST is god-tier.
Speaking of SMTIV. Should I try Persona 2 after beating VI ? It's my first Megami tensei game and I love it so far.
Persona 2 in particular seems like an odd choice, though I haven't played it myself. In general most non-gimmick-spinoff MegaTen games are good choices.
I just unlocked the ability to use the demons and I'm already sick of it
third person movement with 3ds controls and screen fucking sucks
SJ was great though
*fuse
One more vote for SJ.
Is there a jrpg with an interesting protagonist (teenager boys and girls are not, and never will be interesting)
Why don't you try reading the thread dumbass
My favorite is TWEWY although I admit I haven't played many jrpg's other than that.
Lunar: Silver Star Story
>Alex - a young boy from a small town who dreams of becoming an adventurer like his idol, Dyne.
Any Persona game
>literally takes place in a highschool
The World Ends with You
>he's like 11
Panzer Dragoon Saga
>teenager
you fucking mongoloid
not sure about the actual age of the smt4 protag but he doesn't act like a teenager
If you wanna go full 2deep4u insanity try xenogears. Really flawed but memorable. Plus it also has religious themes.
As whole I'd say Chrono Trigger.
Perfect pacing, great battle system, fun characters.
Was about to post this too. Game had a ton of subplots and themes that all started to click at the end. Pretty crazy story and some great characters.
Xenosaga. The main protagonist is a scientist in her mid-20s with mental issues who's intentionally written in a way that you're supposed to hate her.
>Xenogears
>Xenosaga
>Xenoblade
Seriously though is there a connection between these games or do they just happen to have similar names?
Flynn is 18
Same developers.
No canon connections.
Though the director said that if he legally could, Xenogears and Xenosaga would be connected, which is why the story's similar and there's similar plot threads and plot devices.
Xenoblade was a completely different and unconnected thing altogether spiritually and tonally until Xenoblade 2 came along and borderline connects the entire Xeno series because its lore is a rabbithole.
All of them are written by Tetsuya Takahashi
>Seriously though is there a connection between these games
SMT Strange Journey is actually my favorite game.
>gear up and prepare to beat alpha weltall
>finally do it
>get an armor for all your trouble
>The World Ends With You
>11
My all-time favorite has gotta be Earthbound. The gameplay itself is subpar, but the writing and tone are just that good.
I think Strange Journey is my second favorite. What a beast of a game, I think I have around 200 hours on it.
Also Final Fantasy V, the only good Final Fantasy.
Why do you think it's a good idea to be completely invulnerable using 2 of your 4 turns? Are you sure you want to play a videogame?
I can let everything else slide, but to say the OST is lacking is to admit you played with the sound off.
