Metro exodus.

Great game with an amazing atmosphere, but yeah, the legacy of kain franchise is dead.

you know which psx game is fucking forgotten?
Omega Boost
To Sony and Polyphony is like it never existed, it's not even on the ps store and it's a goddamn first party exclusive.

Do these games still hold up? If so, what's the best to start with?

Just remember this series being huge as fuck in the late 90s now most people dont even remember its existence.

Attached: 61T3PRP64PL._SX342_[1].jpg (342x301, 33K)

the gameplay is janky now. But Blood Omen 1 kinda holds up to me.

Any game that has a video on youtube is not forgotten.

Play Soul Reaver 1 first, it holds up pretty well, if you're engaged in the story then you could try to back and play Blood Omen.

Start with Soul Reaver. Everything important that happens in Blood Omen is covered since they wrote it under the assumption that nobody played Blood Omen.

You can go back and play Blood Omen if you really want too, but it's not necessary. Everything that people really remember from the franchise came from Soul Reaver 1 and 2.

Also remember that KAIN IS DEIFIED. THE CLANS TELL TALES OF HIM, FEW KNOW THE TRUTH.

Still have the jewel case. Fun as fuck when drunk.

Thanks, it looks like I'll start with Soul Reaver then 2. I've heard BO2 is shit, but is Defiance worth playing? Might check out BO1 if I like the Soul Reaver games

CAST HIM IN

Blood Omen 2 is ok, Defiance is good.

SAGE

lol

It was only really popular in Burgerland but still
>That one Smash Youtuber who played All Stars and was let down when Kratos' rival was Sweet Tooth
You can tell he thought it was a fucking joke
Also
>Most viewed Twisted Metal videos on YouTube are a Death Battle and a Dunkey video

Defiance is pretty fun.

Alter Echo

The whole damn genre is arguably more dead than rts.

Classic Tomb Raider
Seriously, compared to Resident Evil, Crash Bandicoot, Silent Hill, and other series' that debuted on the PS1 barely anyone still talks about the classic Tomb Raider games themselves

Attached: Magic_of_Scherezade.jpg (270x369, 26K)

That's what happens when you make mediocre games that are only known for the protagonist having torpedo tits

That's because after the ps1 the series shit the bed. RE had RE4 and SH had SH2, TR had Angel of Darkness. Had TR continued with well received games I feel the series would be much bigger then it is now.

I liked the gameplay in the old Tomb Raider games.

Based Romero

Only know it from Jerma

The Legends Trilogy was good IIRC

And motor toon grand prix

Burnout Paradise would like to have a word with you.

What are some games that are "2019 I am remembered"?
As in games that fucked up hard back then or just went obscure and are now experiencing more popularity more than ever now?
I'd say Shantae and Blaster Master come to mind

Attached: 1514820150574.png (937x750, 866K)

Bubsy

Simon Templeman's voice acting is superb. The story is really engaging, and the bad guys aren't really evil, just acting out of self interest.

The story is good, but try not to lose track of where you are and get lost in the giant temples. That gets annoying

that game is on gamepass, though, you're constantly reminded of its existence when browsing the library.

MK11
And some other released last month that i can't remember.

unironically crackdown 3

Definition of great story but mediocre gameplay

this game is so forgettable I had to look up rip off monster hunter to get the name

Attached: great_value_TM_monster_hunter.jpg (960x960, 69K)

No Man's Sky

they could at least try to revive it as a vr game

Of course, games do not age or change like you, they get utdated at most. Go play them, DC version.

Everyone in Soul Reaver is looking for themselves and according to their view of morality.

I mean Raziel doesn't really give a fuck about anyone else. He may talk righteous and wronged but he's still a murderous wraith, and doesn't hesitate in killing humans and vampires alike. Kain is a dick, but a suave dick.

Attached: legacy of kain resumed.png (1167x623, 87K)

>DPAD + 3D platforming
That will never be remembered fondly.

Please give me a fucking 3rd zx game. Fucking please.

Its weird looking back at how fucking huge Tomb Raider was but even back then people were getting tired of the formula

Advent sucked balls, it's time to move on.

THE COIN IS STILL IN THE AIR

They're good enough. The story starts as a revenge story good enough to take you to fantasy landscapes and a dead world universe, and then starts to go apeshit into intrigues and philosophy. Revenge is not enough.

Should Legacy of Kain get an HD collection?

honestly this shit. It’s been 13 years Nintendo and all we’ve gotten is a spirit and a costume in smash. Depressing

The porn says otherwise

Soul Reaver was like my first dive into any fantasy fiction as a kid

The game just reminds me of nothing else and its fucking so sad to me they won't give this game a good continuation

Defiance kinda wrapped it up ok but ehhh

Is there any way for the story to keep going?

>fighting games

Attached: average fighting game player.png (1000x432, 165K)

Kain was still alive after defiance so I'm sure the story could have kept him going some how.

Maybe introduce some cycle of like civilization starts to reform from a broken world and many years later kain has to like blend in with the world somehow and rebuild his vampiric empire

where are you getting these scans from? I loved OPM so much, this is bathing me in nostalgia.

What's stopping you user?

Gotta keep moving forward and hope for the best

not being on pc and not having additional single player content will turn your game into a ghost

I miss nosgoth. I played it (and also leaked the client) as far back as the technical tests, before the alphas, and they never once banned me. I think they knew it was going to tank, and wanted it all out there.
Yet, here we are. 2019, and it's dead and buried. The forums are gone, the devs who made it now work on rocket league, glad they found success in it I guess.

Anyone?

There were actual signs we were gonna get a new game for the Wii U

>Of course, games do not age or change like you
When are /vr/ fags going to learn that "aging" does not mean something is literally changing, or that aging is not inherently bad?

The least From could do is let Kota Hoshino and FreQuency make the soundtrack for one of their endless Souls clones so we could get something a bit more interesting than Hollywood shit.

>When are /vr/ fags going to learn that "aging" does not mean something is literally changing
>literally changing
Ahhhh, a rare case of user BTFO itself

it hurts, man

Any body got any good webms of this game?

What are you trying to say here ESL

That user BTFO itself

This game was hella sweet. Plot is pretty trash though.

They pretty much fucked any chance of it ever coming back when they abandoned the main game and locked a patch behind a fucking soda code. And if they had their way today, the bare minimum it had at the time would be stripped out into a thousand Sims-esque "expansions".

Attached: spore-key-art.jpg.adapt.crop191x100.628p.jpg (1199x628, 200K)

Man I have this game somewhere, this is the only CustomRobo game I've played. I think I finished the main story but didn't unlock everything there is to unlock.

the kessen series, god I miss this series.

Wanting to get into LOK, which version of Blood Omen should I play?

Pick your poison:
>PS1 - easy to obtain on PSN, horrendous loading times
>PC - not available digitally, be prepared to make a trip to pcgamingwiki

>ITT: mediocre games
There's a reason why these games have been forgotten, "muh atmosphere and soul" aren't a real thing either so stop being autistic.

BO1 is by far the best of them. SR1 has the most memorable character interactions, but as a game, and even as a general story, BO1 is better crafted. People telling you to skip it should be ashamed of themselves, but there's no cure for shit taste.

Either is fine. The PC version has a readily available patch/wrapper (Google "Verok Blood Omen") that will bring it up to modern standards. I'm still fond of emulating the PSX version simply because I think the game's visuals benefit a lot from scanlines/a CRT filter, but of course YMMV. These days you can't go wrong with either -- the PC release sidesteps the load times of the PSX version, though.

People who masturbated to Lara's old model are on the same levels as those who masturbated to Ms Pac-Man back in the 80s

Fuck Sony of America for not allowing 2d jrpg to be released in the west. Popolocrois 1,2 and Poporogue are very good games and we never got them.

Plenty of good stuff gets neglected over time or overlooked to begin with, though.

In my defense I only ever jacked it to the FMV model

Why the mixed early reception?

>not just emulate the PS1 GAME
Every toaster xan do it

game was kino as fuck, I still have the files of thhe latest update in case anyone ever makes an emulated server

Attached: LoK-Nosgoth-Wallpaper.jpg (256x160, 18K)

I unironically enjoyed Nosgoth. It was a pretty fun multiplayer game even if it was basically unrelated to LoK besides being set in the same universe. Shame it never got finished

Attached: 1559136203988.jpg (639x437, 51K)

Not forgotten so much as ignored to begin with. The game has its issues but it deserved more attention than it got.

Attached: 812DeSAVf0L._AC_SL1500_.jpg (1500x1365, 371K)

I fucking loved this game as a kid

I was going to ask about Nightcaster, the twin-stick game on the first xbox, but decided to search it up first to make sure I was thinking of the right game. Turns out they made a terrible sequel and buried the series afterwards. Curious how many 'forgotten' games have been deliberately buried like that.

that was forgotten in months because of the DRM thing, "2019" doesn't apply here

Soul Reaver 1 is the best of the series, followed by either SR2 or Blood Omen.

Defiance was the one I quit before getting anywhere. It was the only one I beat as a teen, but after replaying the whole series it bored me the most.

It's the most well made game, but it plays like a really watered down DMC game and doesn't try anything interesting like the others.

If you can get used to SR1's combat then it's a legit great metroidvania game.

>car combat is fucking dead
>not even indie devs are interested in the genre

Last I saw there was some P2W car combat game and an early access one with some decent ratings.

Such a shame TM2 and V8 are some of the most fun I had during the 5th generation of consoles. Twisted Metal used to be a legit console seller, now the entire genre is dead.

I remember renting this game and getting stuck, don't remember if it was good or not.

I liked making creatures, but game itself feels like shittier Warcraft 3, I don't like Warcraft 3.

Much of SR1 level design just isn't that interesting. The spells and upgrades are nice but not terribly necessary, and unlike the secrets in BO1 they aren't weaved into the rest of the game as a fun distraction either. Still a pretty good game. SR2 and Defiance are boring where it counts.

I wish we'd gotten the Vorador prequel Silicon Knights had considered doing instead of the Crystal Dynamics sequels, to be honest.

I will argue with you, saying that SR1 level design is not awesome on a gameplay aspect, but more on a ambience and storytelling level. exploring that game was awesome on some regards, even more after playing Blood Omen
>some stupid skull-like ruins on the way to the fire spell
>it was actually nuprator's keep

How hbas this not been relaeased on a modern consoler? I trefuse to play this game on a console without achievements lol.

Nintendo doesn't really remember it and see no need to bring it back

Attached: battleborn.jpg (275x355, 55K)

lol fuck mnintendo lol

oof

That's not the problem. Epic killed Silicon Knights who made the game.

Lol fuck Silicon Knights those fucking losers.
if they had made a good gmae that sold tjhey wouldn't be dead.
also if they hadn't made that shitty too human game HAHAHA FAwd wad awd aw3

Man this game, soul reaver 2, was so good if it wasn't for the fact that you couldn't save inside the dungeons, and they took an hour to complete.

Syphon filter is excelent. The first two at least, never played the other ones.

Burnout Paradise was released 11 years ago, user.

oh fuck i had that game, didn't even know about a sequel

Fuck no nigger this is still my favorite PS1 to this if you played it on 64 you were wrong

This. Im utterly baffled on how fast it died off. RD1 is still sometimes discussed and is still fondly remmebered by its players, but RD2 just died right after the 2-3 months or so

Ah yes, about that.

Astrobot, knack

Its unironically imposible to play blood omen now

shut up user, pcgamingwiki, get the fix, find a torrent of the ISO

it doesn't work on ps1 emulator?

fair enough, though knack isn't exactly the pinnacle of the genre

No it isn't. The game itself can be easily found on abandonware sites if you dig, and Verok's patch/wrapper make it as playable as any PC game. Playstation emulators also handle it just fine if you prefer that.

>the bad guys aren't really evil
Yes they are.

Alas poor Raziel i knew him well.

Other than the brief period people thought Sekiro was going to be From's take on the series, Tenchu is pretty dead.

Blood Omen 1 (A Link to the Past but extremely fucking violent and bloody) -> Soul Reaver 1 (Ocarina of Time but dark as fuck) -> Soul Reaver 2 (Like SR2 but a bit lighter tone, also the best character interactions happen here - possibly one of the best cutscenes in vidya, imo) - > Defiance (plays a bit like a shittier DMC, it's competent though and provides the ending to the franchise)

Every game has its good and bad sides but I'd say they're all worth experiencing. Especially the first two, my favorite is Blood Omen 1.

Attached: 351370-kainswordl.jpg (540x684, 114K)

I'm surprised people forgot about this game and the censorship controversy behind it

Attached: Driv3rbox.jpg (220x271, 16K)

Cast him in

Tenchu was dead after Fatal Shadows everything after that was stale shit.

Has a game been so bad that it retroactively sunk the rest of the series into obscurity?

It's a damn shame too.
I actually bought it day one, but it just wasn't 'enjoyable' and it just kept making awkward, unusual, mistakes. It wasn't a 'bad' game. I played through it and beat it, but it just wasn't Genesis and it wasn't a good 'Zoo Tycoon' game. It just kept missing the 'point' and the gameplay loop wasn't ultimately enjoyable or satisfying like how the other games are.

It's especially painful because they keep working on it and trying to fix it, but every change they make is filtered through this... Certain inability to understand.

>the gun that shoots through walls
>the spiky grenade
>the mine that released a load of gas and then ignited it

this place is beyond saving

Attached: 46xj.gif (294x232, 1.74M)

No, all of them sold mor or less the same. It just Crystal Dynamic got the Tomb Raider IP and they abandoned LoK for it's obvious profitability and it's not like their TR games were bad.

I meant in general, I wasn't referring to LoK.

>possibly one of the best cutscenes in vidya
which one?

Attached: ep.jpg (480x368, 11K)

>provides the ending to the franchise
it ends on a goddamn cliffhanger

I don't understand how they got Quake 2 to run on a PS1, especially without being completely unplayable. I played the demo, it's fucking wizardry.

idtech engines in general under carmack were wizardry.

Daily reminder that Defiance wasn't meant to be the last game in the series and the people started working on Dark Prophecy right afterwards which would've run on an engine really similar to Defiance (or the same) and was based off of Henning's notes. You'd play as both Young Kain following the destruction of the pillars and old Kain fucking about after Raziel does what he does at the end of Defiance.

Wolf and mist forms were also to make a return, same with the BO2 Hylden, in some capacity. You can think I'm bullshitting but it can all be found if you snoop around on the net, down to the concept art for Kain.

Attached: 1555998004259.gif (328x328, 1.48M)

Because it was Q2 only in name it was a completely rewritten engine that played into the strengths of the PSX.

It used a different engine I think.

It didn't use any code written by Carmack

>F.E.A.R is forgotten

Based retard. People talk about the game all the time, it's shooting mechanics were a decade and to a lesser extent still are ahead of its time.

Pretty much every cutscene is kino, even something as simple as Raziel talking to Moebius at the beginning or Janos' end. But personally I don't think the franchise ever got better than this, especially once you understand what the fuck Kain just managed to pull off there and put it in perspective: youtube.com/watch?v=nl0X_-qejD8

Obviously Kain and Raziel at the pilars is kino too.

that's because it's still in beta. PC will be it's true release

Attached: 1543702827560.png (1306x974, 2.28M)

Yeah, DP would've been the ending to the saga, but the project got canceled and we got fucked over forever. Well, given how much corporate meddling the franchise has gone through it's still a miracle we got what we got, it would've normally ended at SR1.

The shooting mechanics are nothing special. It's the AI that everyone goes on and on about.

>dat feel when not only forgotten, but also had your name stolen by a completely unrelated game
When they hear Nocturne today people think about the SMT game.

Attached: 1372784991432.jpg (480x480, 22K)

such a shame they forgot about kessen. bladestorm was kinda-sorta its spiritual successor.

Jesus Christ, Gearbox really is a one trick pony?

>Aliens: Colonial Marines
>Duke Nukem Forever
>Battleborn
>all three ended up being flops

Half Life expansions were ages ago.

It does not. IT DOES NAHT.

Why do people keep saying this? LEGACY of Kain is ended after Defiance. Entire point is yes, Elder God is out there still, but Kain has broken away from his own fuckups and is now free for the first time in his life. You don't need a definitive ending for it to be satisfying.

Attached: lok_kain not amused.jpg (267x325, 19K)

At least SE and Eidos didn't try to milk it, imagine living in a timeline with this shit youtube.com/watch?v=XVlvJJt5jWE

Was thinking of this the other day

>it would've normally ended at SR1
And it should have. SR1's cut content is pretty conspicuous and hurts the game a lot, and the original ending was far better than the indulgent time travel wankery we got in SR2 and Defiance. When I found out about SR1's original ending it stung. What a cruel world.

Attached: BO-Concept-Art-Kain-Feeding.jpg (667x1183, 263K)

Furthermore, with Raziel out of the picture the prophecy is now set in stone: Kain WILL free Nosgoth from EG and the hylden, so the ending is quite definitive, even if it doesn't look like it.

is it gud?

I recently finished Blood Omen 1. I definitely expected a different type of game than what it actually was but I liked it.

Attached: legacyofkain.jpg (1438x1079, 292K)

Red dead remeption 1 was a good game while red dead redemption 2 was not, it's simple as that.

I played it on dreamcast

This. I felt that the ending of Defiance was satifying and tied up all but maybe 2 loose ends. And it honestly sets up Blood Omen 2. So technically, Blood Omen 2 is the series' ending.

Kain ends up free, like Raziel was, Soul Reaver is restored to Kain, and Elder God got his shit pushed in.
All they left untold was how Voridor was alive again in Blood Omen 2, how Soul Reaver ends up where Kain finds it in Blood Omen 1 and if you want to bitch and whine, we don't know what Kain got up to after.

IMO, what Kain got uo to after Defiance isn't important, because his gaining true freedom is his ultimate victory. It's an open ending, not a cliffhanger.
The other details are minor, and in a time travel centric series, who really cares?

Raziel would have fought a priestess that led a cult of vampire-worshippers, he would have fought and killed Turel just like the rest of the lieutenants (Turel's absence in the game is the biggest indicator that the game was not what it was originally meant to be), Raziel would have consumed Ariel to imbue the Reaver with the ability to kill Kain, Kain would have been killed, and Raziel would have used the sounding pipes in the Silenced Cathedral to eradicate the rest of Nosgoth's vampire population.

There was room for another game, but even if Defiance left some curious loose ends it's still thematically pretty conclusive. It's doubtful Dark Prophecy would have been any good anyway.

>m-my game isn't forgotten
sorry Hubbard, but the last time people talked about F.E.A.R was in 2017

What were you expecting? But yeah, Blood Omen rocks.

anyone played this on the PS2?

that shit was my Zelda as a kid

Kek

If they made single player DLC instead of focusing on Online bullshit it would be talked about more, I swear Rockstar's increasing focus on multiplayer transactions is going to bite them in the ass.

I remember having it but I never played it.

I did. Never finished the campaign, got bored halfway through the 2nd world. When Dawn of War came out it was pretty neat to see just how much they took basic gameplay elements from Impossible Creatures.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Also goddamn Splash all you need to do is to make an ET game that is as big in scale as Quakewars and you would do good, stop making smaller and smaller scale games!!

Attached: QuakeWars.jpg (800x600, 81K)

I got the switch version and it still plays pretty well. The first few levels are a drag, but once you destroy the lazor beam Ra's, the world really opens up and the game is kino.

Bo2 is a prequel to sr1 tho?

Been looking for a well dead genre to try reviving with some bros interested in breaking into low-poly game development.
Any interest from anons in seeing a spiritual successor?

A PS Plus/Arcade remake or sequel of this would unironically succeed

BOTW is unironically the sequel to its good parts.

It was pretty shitty.

It's basically RTS soul reaver anyway

Attached: sacrifice.jpg (338x401, 24K)

i'll never forget

Forgotten in general or just here?

If it's the latter then every game made in the early 2000's that isn't made by Nintendo. They stuck in limbo: too new for /vr/, too old for Yea Forums.

Minus Rockstar games. San Andreas is a daily meme here.

I tried playing Soul Reaver 1 recently but it's simply not that good.

The worst thing is the camera. You're constantly platforming but the camera is never behind you, and because it has directional controls the camera is constantly influencing your controls and your input is constantly influencing the camera.

RIP
Lugaru is still better

>pretends to delete your memory card

In a just world Wolfire would have taken all the time and money they put into this and put it into Receiver instead.

>some curious loose ends
Can you remind me some of the loose ends? It's been awhile. There's obviously stuff not as explored like the Hylden, Dark Dimension and the Elder God, but I don't remember anything that needed tying up.

these were pretty popular, I have no idea how it completely died.
>psygnosis
probably because of this

I am truly forgotten.

Attached: 220px-Assault_Retribution_PS_cover.jpg (220x220, 21K)

I guess you could count Gravity rush too. Although its seems to be more of an vn.

The Hylden are mostly what I'm referring to. Is it central to the Elder God-Kain conflict? No, but it is a strange thing to leave unelaborated. By no means would that alone justify another game. It's a loose end, but not all loose ends need to be tied. Between the Elder God and the Hylden Dark Prophecy had enough to flesh out a game; I just don't think it's necessary.

I also don't think SR2 and Defiance have very good stories, anyway. Or game design. I doubt Dark Prophecy would have been different.

Its not as unknown as you think user. Lots of us played it.

i still miss it, bros

SR2 is even more unfinished than 1 due to development moving from the PS1 to the DC and then the PS2, and the team had to deal with all the random changes the BO2 team was doing. The gameplay is pretty bad and repetitive, but the story is better than 1's, which is pretty much a BO1 remake.

Actually it sounds more like you’re garbage at puzzle platformers and don’t have the brain capacity to understand what the gameplay is trying to achieve

I know it's not quite the same, but there's Wreckfest and the free destruction derby DLC for GRID 2

It was the kind of game that wasn't very good, but you didnt hate it if it was your weekend rental. I think about it every now and again because i got to the last boss and had to return it.

Fuck basedny, they're sitting on a mountain of dead IPs which deserve revivals and are long overdue. Colony Wars was the best console space sim of its time, and what a great game on its own. Fuck, I really want a new one, or at least a proper remake.

For some reason you can still download the demo at splashdamage.com/games/enemy-territory-quake-wars/
but you can't buy the game digitally anywhere. I wish they put it up on steam or GOG.

> I'm sure the story could have kept him going some how.

The Hylden were loose and the Elder God wasn't dead, there was still so much to do.

>epic exclusive
>plot heavy game with dumb as shit plot
>lots of dialogue but it's all with redshirts who have never been in the series before

Plenty of things keeping it down

I bought a 3ds just for that game

The only bad one was Omega Strain, and that was because Bend guys were trying to do The Division 15 years too early.
3 is boring rehash that Sony made them develop.
PSP/PS2 games are fine, but somewhat generic.

Attached: gex pirate.jpg (1024x768, 180K)

the great spaghetti western atmosphere of the first was replaced by pretty lame historical fiction for this game. it's a lot less memorable

I think once the novelty worse off everyone realised immersion isn't fun.

It's weird sometimes to look back and see what actually sold the most copies at the time versus what remained well regarded over time.

>what remained well regarded over time.
Some games are more shilled than others.

To their credit the only reason BBorn failed was because people interpreted it as off-brand overwatch. All it would have taken was a later release date and refined menus because the interface felt like some ps2 shit. If only it had a quicker, smoother overall service.

Yeah, I played the first two but had no interest in that one, regardless of the epic shit.
It just came out of nowhere and didn't really have a single hook beyond "member that thing you played a decade ago?"

Play Blood Omen.

But yeah, PCSX2 does not do well with SR2 or Defiance.

I already finished BO but all it left me was a sad feeling that I'll never get to finish the rest of the series.

Attached: 1551378874086.jpg (480x419, 18K)

Fuck man...

there are stills Arthur threads to this very day

If it makes you feel any better SR2 and Defiance aren't that fun to play. They're mostly hallways that deliver you to the next stiffly presented dialogue exchange. They aren't bad, but you aren't missing much by watching them on Youtube or whatever.

I appreciate it but I'd much rather experience something myself rather than through proxy.

One of the best lines in the series.

Kain:
"Let's drop the moral posturing, shall we? We both know there's no altruism in this pursuit.
Your reckless indignation led you here - I counted on it.
There's no shame in it, Raziel - revenge is motivation enough.
At least it's honest. Hate me, but do it honestly."

>once the novelty worse off everyone realised immersion isn't fun.
It's not immersion. It's realistic-looking. Sometimes when you try to make something as realistic looking as possible you lose the immersion because everything because unresponsive and delayed in order to accommondate all the animations. Immersion doesn't come from animations, it comes from control. Games where items fly into your pockets and doors open instantly with the press of a button, or your shadow isn't visible feel more immersive because all those mundane things should be effortless and unnoticeable. A person doesn't need to wait to be fully in range of a door before they can initiate the act of reaching out and opening it. They can anticipate and their hand is already on the handle when they are in range to grab it. A person doesn't constantly acknowledge the existence of their own shadow and it's not needed ingame, especially considering the fact that when a game prioritizes its controls instead of its animation, a visible shadow would just highlight how bad the animations look because they're trying to give the player maximum freedom at the expense of their appearance.

@471083441
*because everything becomes unresponsive

I fucking LOVED that scene and those dialogues. Kain is wise and knows: Raziel lies to himself all the time.

I found it to be a satisfying, open ending.

I mean it seriously takes talent to do something this great, and when I finished Defiance I realized the game was put up to finish the story with leftovers money. It's a good game, but the story was the important part of it, and there was no way to finish it up more properly than that.

As for the ending, it ends with the only thing Kain and Raziel had not: Hope. At least a choice. Whether it's going to be a shit one, it can be made by their own personal will.

Raziel understood that there's no higher freedom than to choose to take own's life/existence for what he believes. He could have refused to the "prophecy", he could keep on going forever, but to surrender in that moment made sense for him, and gave him peace. Kain, on the other side, is full and well equipped to take on centuries to come.

lmao

This franchise is obscure [but i've indeed met anons that played it], it was likely low budget [due the simple gameplay, char. moveset not having different buttons for moves and little modes] and poorly promoted since the company that made it [is the same one that made the wwe games], wanted to change one time from their sorta wrestling games however the hidden potential of the series was wasted...

Attached: 35463-title-Fuujin-Ryouiki-Eretzvaju.jpg (640x480, 52K)

I dont even think RDR2 is immersive. In fact, I would say the precise opposite. The mechanics and controls are so annoying and awkward that I could never stop thinking about how awkward they were or the controller in my hand. Its hard to be immersed in this game. Stuff like the horse brushing isnt immersive when an annoying brush icon is on your screen every five minutes. having to hold the button to pick up something isnt immersive, it feels like shit.

>mmersion doesn't come from animations, it comes from control. You have described it so well. Can't express how much I agree with you. RDR2 creates too much of a delay between your input and the response. It always feels like it is several steps behind what you actually want to do. Sadly I think a lot of people on Yea Forums love the game too much to really acknowledge it.

At least we got a couple of new tracks from that 20th anniversary bundle

I loved BO2. I thought defiance sucked, the only good thing about it is the story and VAs.

I played the fuck out of it. Bulls with gorilla punch fists ftw

I want games like LoK to happen again

We were so fortunate back then, thinking smart stuff was the norm.

Attached: raziel figure.jpg (280x280, 18K)

I call that "the blinking paradox". Humans blink, if they don't they start to see worse and their eyes hurt. It's realistic. However it would completely and utterly destroy immersion if you implemented a first-person blinking mechanic. Our brains smooth out that and a ton of other shit for us before it reaches our ego, unless you purposefully direct your attention to it. If it's in a game you have no choice to direct your attention to it. So you get taken out of your immersion because suddenly you're both able and not able to perform basic motor functions correctly at the same time.

His developers got tired and moved on
Even Spyro would've likely died anyways if Insomniac still had him

This is basically the reason why I made this infographic. Everything one might think makes a game look more realistic and therefore more immersive might actually work against immersion and in some cases, be actually less realistic than not implementing the feature at all.
When I get around to doing a proper stereoscopic first person gun model render I'll add "iron sights are less realistic than classic FPS gun stance"

Attached: cinematic.png (1024x2159, 818K)

Vigilante 8 was better anyway

I remember I got to play this thanks to a demo disc (PSX Mag I think) and it was one of the best demos I ever played because you could spawn enemies and play with all the abilities in a small sand box.

Especially the Western ones

I actually liked this game a lot. It was as close as you can get to a modern STALKER game but it was bogged down by a story I didn't give a fuck about.

Which is sad because there were a few good characters forever lost now in the game.

>It's a good game, but the story was the important part of it, and there was no way to finish it up more properly than that.

I think the problem was Blood Omen 2 threw a massive wrench into whatever story they had planned. They should've just retconned it entirely.

By today's standards, every decent game from the past is a gem.

I'd like to see someone remake it in Freespace 2 Open. I heard once that someone had a bunch of Colony Wars ship models for FS2, but I wasn't able to find them.

Every genre except FPS and open-world TPS is dead.

Not if you own a physical copy.

.t smug

My assumption is that it's going to go the way of shit like Loadout and Battlerite. 3rd-rate action MMO's that are stylistically tight but have no meta since they were conceived specifically as counters to preexisting IPs

They hold up if you're interested in the story. Otherwise, the big thing about the LoK series is that the gameplay is extremely inconsistent. There are only two games in the series that play the same: Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2. The other three games play completely differently from those and from each other. And to be honest, none of the five did gameplay particularly well. So with that in mind, I recommend starting with Blood Omen 1. In a series that you play for the story, you don't want to skip any of the story, and Blood Omen 1 is actually one of the better entries in terms of gameplay anyway. From there I'd say play Blood Omen 2, then Soul Reaver 1 and 2, then Defiance. That's the chronological order in terms of the series plot, even though it's not the order the games were released in.

Fuck people who oppose all cutscenes on principle. They tend to be the same kind of people who think stories have no place in games.

This. So much this. Fucking average games with scores of 5/10 or 6/10 from the previous generations are better compared to current standards. Its baffling we've reached this low.

bullshit

It really bothers me how business people have taken over the industry to the point that they don't have the confidence or courage to make their games stand out. Everything has to be based on one trend or another which makes most modern games play and look homogeneous.

ONE WHO CONSORTS WITH BEASTS

Attached: 220px-Sekiro_art.jpg (220x275, 23K)

I'm so mad no one ever ported it or made a sequel of it

It's not about confidence or courage, it's about creativity vs. profit. Games today are designed for the sole purpose of maximizing profit. It's not that they'd like to make different games but are afraid to do so, it's that they see games purely as commercial products.

This thing is gettig an update soon. I saw a thumbnail on my youtube saying so while looking at game informers mhwib coverage.

>The failed Kickstarter for First Wonder
>The depressing message they put out after they cancled the funding early saying "We thought our game was big and controversial for the time and that our games were fun and well liked but it seems it has been to long and no one remembers

Yeah looks like they've finished making updates to that about a year ago

I've had that on my list of things to play but new things kept being added further up the list and I'm not sure I can be bothered now.

There's a tiny community of guys who still play the mutli and there was one aspiring streamer, I dunno if he still does it.

Yeah that pretty much sank like a stone right?

You're right, but that approach still somewhat implies it though. They don't seem to have enough confidence that an unique product can actually stand a chance on the market and sell well. Its about being safe rather than trying something different.

People occasionally bring it up as an example of a game from when bioware was good but I never see anyone discuss the levels, characters, quests or anything like that.

I'm pretty sure it's only one specific guy.

Was it really?

I played this as a kid and loved to blast my uncle away with the rail gun while he tried to learn modern console controls.

He died from a Motorcycle accident when I was 13. I hadn't seen him since I was a few years younger.

I think they know a unique product can sell well. The problem is that merely selling "well" isn't good enough for them. They want to sell a billion copies and make a trillion dollars. So again, it's not fear that the game will fail, it's an unwillingness to accept anything less than Call of Duty profits.

booooy....

Why do so many Western inspired games and films have to go on about how it sucks and how awesome we are in comparison because we don't? Yeah, I know the Old West was violent and oppressive compared to our times. So were the so-called Enlightenment, the Middle Ages, The Roman Empire and so on. Stop trying to guilt trip gamers. It's not going to work, and these writers aren't smart for pointing out how racist, sexist, homophobic, or terrible slavery was back then. We all know.

In a hundred years time, people from the future are going to see us as barbarians. And I pray to God they don't just focus on the recession, the War Against Terror, eating meat, pollution, or extinction of endangered animals, the use of a dying resource for our energy known as fossil fuels, lack of foresight of automation, and are blatant violation of our basic human rights as the only events in history that defined us.

I just hope human civilization still exists a hundred years from now.

Honestly if anything, it seems like classic TR is actually still remembered quite fondly and there's a decent number of people who still go back and play those. People seem to agree that classic Lara had a way better design than nuLara. It's an odd situation where the newer games sell pretty decently iirc but no one really remembers or gives a shit about them.

I don't think this game was all that well known in the first place. I think Machinarium is still what they're known for.

it hurts fucking BAD, bro... :(

I'm playing it right now.

That's the way the publishers want it - games as disposable, forgettable entertainment, with people buying sequels every year.

>The Hylden were loose
That part is resolved in Blood Omen 2, Kain "remembers" it at the end of Soul Reaver 2 when they finally break the timestream by pulling the sword out of Raziel, that's why he says that Yanos must not be brought back to life.

That shit was some of the most fun I had on N64 with 4 players

>That E3 reveal for the PS3 game
>Years go by and I'm like wtf did it ever even come out
>It did and it was fucking trash

I've been looking for this game for years, thanks for posting it.
