You play as a transhuman supersoldier wearing high tech power armor

>you play as a transhuman supersoldier wearing high tech power armor
>SPARTANs noted to be able of running around 60-65kph in canon
>gameplay is slow and you move at a fat boy jogging pace
Who thought this would be fun?

The second they started establishing Spartan lore out of game, the series stopped being worth keeping up with. The fact that MC is capable of doing batshit crazy stuff, yet can only jump 6 feet, and run at 3mph is ridiculous.

The books came before the first game.

The books were also written when the game was still an RTS by design, the spartans would have been super units.

it gets even worse in halo 2 when even your normie allies have more hitpoints than you

Only to compensate for shitty AI. The battlefield would feel pretty empty if every UNSC soldier died in 1 or 2 plasma bolts.

how come the covenant AI is good but the human AI was dogshit though?

Fuck man. The games are great. You feel like a walking tank. You're still fucking 7ft tall, and iirc the recharging energy shield idea first became popular in Halo ... so I dunno man. The sandbox is fun, the enemy AI is fun, and you feel like a supersoldier to me...

it wouldn't be a fun game if your allies bulldozed everything for you

The human AI needs to function as effective set dressing, but not so effective that they play the game for you. This is a game design balancing decision.

Why not make the AI equal?

they added a run button all it did was move the arms side to side

In Halo 2, and I think 3 as well, Marine AI actually scaled up alongside difficulty. It's just that enemy AI in 2 is fucking insane and will cut down your allies before they can be of any real help, unless you outfit them with some power weapons.

youtu.be/aYS_XnSat4k
TL;DR Enemy AI is programmed to shoot faster and harder. it also begins shooting quicker.

i mean he doesnt get tired ever and he shoot stuff good seems like the only thing he needs bro.

>Lorefag autists discussing gameplay
Go back to your immediate-reward ADHD twitch shooters

to be fair in the game chief can also flip over a tank when he can't do such thing in the books

If you gave them rocket launchers they are op because infinite ammo. I remember using a troops warthog full of marines with rockets and fuel rod cannons in halo 3, we destroyed the level.

>transhuman
Superhuman you dumbass tranny.

This

Wasn't there a kino scene in the books where John Spartan kills some marines in a weight room with like 2x gravity?

yeah, chief killed like two of them

Spartan enhancements are the literal definition of transhumanism

>bitch about slow movement speed
>shit on Reach for adding sprint
Big thinks.

the only trans here is you, fag.

The ODSTs? yeah, they thought they could pick on the swole as fuck 14 year old with reinforced bones, reflexes and higher muscle density

ok this is pretty cringe stuff

You should just move super fast all the time, you small-thinking dipshit.

200 IQ post right there

Do you even know what transhuman means you mouthbreathing ape? The fucking ignorant retards you see on this board, jesus christ. Consume some decent media instead of yelling at twitter screencaps all day.

Where is it?

Attached: 1532961185627.png (688x784, 177K)

>being 15 years of age in 2019
>being so ADD you desire FPS games where you run at 450mph making 135 degree camera turns every half second

Agreed

>Halo is too slow
>add sprint
>I want sprint removed
Which is it?

The standard speed should be the current, sprint should make me feel like a runaway freight train.

>expecting speed from console shooters

halo is cool guy, he shoots aliens and doesnt afraid of anything

>add sprinting to the game because of children raised on call of duty
>aiming down sights is now mandatory and slows the game down even further

The books established that Spartans drop like flies. Reach was a fucking slaughter. Chief's best feature was always that he was lucky, and this was brought up in the games too. The books also established neat details like Spartans having built in crosshairs on their visor lined up to where their gun was aiming, which is why aiming down sights is retarded.

Go back.

Because games supersede books in canon.

that isnt what modern games are at all though

theyre battle royales where you stare at a wall for 5 minutes

I don't recall the books ever stating that Spartans are capable of Olympian-tier jumps or moving at the speed of bullet trains. You move faster than marines in the games, break spines instantly with a basic punch, flip vehicles like it's nothing, have 100% superior aim than everything around you, etc. That's enough. Though, I only read the first few books, so maybe this changed by the time Halo went full anime.

I remember reading the armor was like 1 ton or some shit like that from bungie.net. when halo 3 came out i was kinda baffled how sgt. johnson just casually helped mc get up. during multiplayer you could see spartans ragdoll float on water on valhalla. pretty comedic and immersion ruining.

The slow movement in game was nothing more than for balancing issues. This is proven when the games introduced sprinting and when it's on older maps you can tell it wasn't meant to be there as it's too easy to escape/duck out of any situation.

Halo was always anime though.

It was old school anime aka cool, like the Starship Troopers OVA or LOTGH, then it became a literal anime in 2010 and increasingly ridiculous from there on

Sprint makes games slow.

You move faster than any marine seen running and (could) shoot with pinpoint accuracy at top speed. Adding sprint ruined the franchise.

I have to agree with you.

>>gameplay is slow and you move at a fat boy jogging pace
in terms of what...quake? not only that quake has huge maps compared to the small 4v4 competitive maps in halo 1-3
quake would be terrible if you didnt run at that speed. the speed may be fast but theres plenty of time for decision making based on the scale of each room

Halo 2 also gives you the BR and a metric shit-ton of sniper rifles.

You're joking, right? Quake's maps are tiny compared to Halo's.

duel maps are massive compared to official 4v4 maps in halo

>playing Delta Halo on Legendary
>give the marines full control of a warthog
>they charge ahead and murder everything and get halfway through the level with me before they get blown up by a banshee
People really underrate how valuable a marine can be if you give them good gear, a squad of them with sniper rifles can wipe waves of enemies unaided

Attached: 1523868427471.jpg (1002x857, 67K)

i know campground is one of the bigger maps but seriously catching someone close range in the same room = youre pretty much dead
this doesnt apply to halo 2/3
shield regen + grenades creates a huge skill gap with decision making

Attached: Campgrounds.jpg (300x225, 17K)

>i only played 8v8 blood gultch ctf on halo pc
lel pc gayming

good bait

This is the most retarded shit I have ever read.

Soon as people get good in halo its tap tap on the head dead.

Quake is way more cat and mouse. Its really hard to actually peruse someone in the game who doesn't want to fight. Retreating rockets, LG pushing you and your opponent away.

The fuck is this same room= dead bullshit. Literally every duel I have ever played unless its a babbys first game of duel has both players chasing and hunting each other from room to room across the entire map, where in Halo even with shit xbox controllers its easy to secure clean headshots for quick kills.

I assume back in 2001 or whatever they didn't have the technology to create a game like Crackdown where your character can run at like 100 mph through the environment, leap 50 ft, etc. After the first game came out an audience was established and it was too late to change.

>halo its tap tap on the head dead.
>i have less than 100 hours in halo
yeah um no its not. this isnt some peek a boo sim like cs ok

ive got like 200 hours in quake live and 400 in qc not even a pc player and got to diamond 1

was a 31 in halo 2 and a 50 in 3 different playlists in halo 3

you probably have like no play time in both franchises

You can't hit a fast-moving target with a joystick, so they slowed everyone down so the players wouldn't realize the controls suck

Attached: u0b7it55af431.jpg (960x912, 97K)

>so they slowed everyone down so the players wouldn't
>i dont understand how muscle memory works

>you're walking speed is the Marine AI sprinting speed
>literally run over 2 times as fast as their run
>Wahhhhhh I'm so slow
Look around dumbass. You tower over the regular humans and are only matched in height by the Elites and Brutes who are 9ft tall mountains of muscle.

Halo 5 actually did it really well. Halo 5 is actually one of the best shooter I've played in a long time

hi OP
don't you just hate how in racing games you cant get out of your car?
like irl i can get out of my car why cant i do it in games?

it's literally one of the 3 worst halo's
it has the biggest 4v4 maps and the slowest base movement speed
>sprint makes the game faster
>putting your gun down
>a good thing
you have the worst fucking taste ever and i bet youre terrible at shooters

Maybe the books should have actually taken the games into consideration instead of going full retard. What's even the point of calling Chief the last Spartan in every game if the books contradicted that from the very start?

Attached: 1517294986979.jpg (811x811, 65K)

you do know that spartans canonically feel everything slower than what's actually happening right? marines can only run so fast and you're faster than them. they even added sprint to later games.

bad bait.

This is why I ignore the books, they were never important.

The books were written before the games.

This is why there is such a divide, glad the games are more canon.

There's some great stuff about the Spartan program and Chief's past in Fall of Reach though. If ever a Halo movie came out I hope they incorporate some of the stuff from that book at least.

And not by Bungie.

halopedia.org/Eric_Trautmann

only fall of reach

>the books

stop. stop being a sperg. stop.

This, he books fucking hurt Halo.

Halo 1-3 and Reach are good games.

It's still so funny to me these exist, it's like hearing about the Deus Ex book
but people take them seriously

At least the first 2 or 3 are good reads.

The Forerunner books by Greg Bear are really good sci fi.

>Reach
>good
Sorry, Pablo, no.

>Be just your average space marine hyped up on Super armor and Berserker packs
>Carry a backpack of like 300-400 pounds of raw death
>Still outrun your own rockets at 60-100 MPH
How can Spartans even compete.

>Doomfags from reddit always have to shove Doom into Halo

Doomguy is a fucking freak of nature, meanwhile all his space marine buddies die instantly to basic imps and zombies.

le epic doomguy

Where are the 40k nerds with their Spess Mehren power levels

Doomguys one of the very few characters that just as badass in gameplay as he in in cutscenes/lore.

Not everyone you disagree with is brown you race traitor, let more immigrants into your faggot european nation and go extinct already

Two weeks, valve time.

>running at 60-65 kph

even for spartans this seems unrealistic

I'm American though.

There is a major difference between a games lore and its mechanics. Halo's floatiness is part of what makes it unique, as opposed to any other military or arena based shooter. What makes the multiplayer work at a high level is the triangle between shooting, grenades, and melee. Its floaty movement, bullet sponge armor, and momentum contribute to that.

I did actually enjoy halo reach's take on it though, where to spice up the formula they added new movement options and mechanics in the form on armor abilities, so you could have the option to sprint fast for the cost of other options. If only the abilities were balanced more it would have surpassed 3 in the esports scene.

I honestly think reach is the best story in all of halo
>shows how the super heroes aren't actually unstoppable death machines
>all uniquely human in their own ways
>show them all slowly losing hope
>show how each of them faced their death in their own way
>lots of things have a lot more impact if you played the original trilogy
I wish I could go back and play it for the first time again. I still remember thinking the cavalry was coming on the last level.

It would have been more poignant if they hadn't died in retarded fucking ways and had more than about 4 lines showing their "characterization".

Spartans are not space marines, and even space marines die in droves.

console players can't aim faster than 1 degree of movement a second, all combat has to be slow and floaty and spongy and all maps have to be corridors with no 90 degree turns, sloping verticality, and no cubby holes to hide in

its cape shit culture. the cant create real sci-fi
just OMG ALL MIGHTY ALL POWERFULL SHIT

He looks so damn fine in that armor.

Reach story was shit.

>die saving the planet
>get brained when your shields are down by a sniper who knew you were coming
>i'll admit carter was a bit cheesy
>die defending the ship that's getting the most important thing on the planet the fuck our of dodge (and deliver the second best line in the game in the process)
>go down throwing haymakers into fucking zealots
Spartans are canonically basically sociopaths, they're conditioned to not really talk or socialize much. The point of the minimal dialogue is to show that despite everything they're still human. Kat and Emile are the best examples of this - they both warm up to six in different ways. Consider how kat treats six on the first mission vs on the mission in the falcon.

they all died due to ironical reasons contrasting their character traits.

>irreplaceable Spartan II sacrifices himself for the sake of the expendable throwaway hero Spartan III
>nobody looks around to check for enemies and thus doesn't notice the Phantom hovering 10 feet overhead, Phantom kills one soldier and flies off like its a fucking drive-by instead of hovering and killing them all
>Chief kills like 5 scarabs singlehandedly between 2 and 3, Six and Emile can't clamber up and kill one, leader has to smash himself into it
Six and Emile were okay, they were fucked no matter what.

Spartan-III's are canonically beta Charlies to the Spartan-II's Chad alphas.

>complaining about super fast fps games
>thinking this applies to zoomers
>never grew up with arena shooters

This

>resident good guy who has actual feelings sacrifices himself instead of ordering someone else to to save his own ass
Also they knew how valuable six was.
>phantom hiding behind where they were, couldn't see it until they were in the line of fire, they immediately return fire
>chief only ever brings down scarabs when he has some advantage, ie rockets or vehicles or jumping down onto it, they have fuck all
At least you admit emile died awesome.

Except six was literally rated by ONI as the second deadliest spartan ever

>not slow gameplay
>not 3 path whack a mole maps
>somehow skill

Let more mexicans into your americuck nation and go extinct already

If they have as much shit taste as you, they can stay in their own shit country.

Halo is quake underwater
