hire an artist, or just make 3D models or stick to text based game with ASCII art like DF

What's going on in this picture?

This faggot. If you really want to make games you gotta make really cold decisions.

Fact: Drawing will take you years even a decade to reach the level you aspire to.
You are better off improving the skills you already have. There's a million starving tranny artists out there.

That being said never underestimate art. Most people buy games for the art, don't be fooled.

correcting common mistakes

hire an artist
>In uni 0 money
or just make 3D models
>I only like 2d games
or stick to text based game with ASCII art like DF
>Not applicable the game I'm trying to make isn't grid based and won't truly be my vision if the art isn't how I want it

I don't care if anyone buys my game or not I might even make it for free, like cave story I just want the game that is my vision to exist

Create a Kickstarter project and use your little sister (or any female and:or child) as the face of the project.

>in uni
uni is the last place you should have trouble finding artists. literally just walk over to your art building and put up flyers.

I mean, what are the mistakes? The eyes are the wrong size? That's all I see.

HELP

Attached: 1531796829353.gif (320x178, 521K)

Make games with shitty art until you git gud
Dont let being bad at something stop you from doing it

you probably don't have the requisite foreveralone porn addicted autism to make porn games. sorry user.

Just live it all in your mind, the fantasy and build it up.
Worry about "getting it out" once you realise the world or things have longevity of interest.

Draw simple stuff you can tween like toby fox

Me too. I know how to make games, and my mind is filled with filth. I can't draw worth shit though, I can only make sprites. Terrible sprites too, with extremely basic shading. Which is at least a step above the usual indie pixelshit.
I can guarantee this would not be a hurdle for me

How do I learn to draw not shittily.

Spend absurd amounts of time drawing. Like, absurd. 8 hours a day at least, drawing from life, drawing anything and everything. No excuses, no running away, just pure drawing.

Step 1, stop learning to draw anime. Learn *real* anatomy and proportion, even if you only want to draw anime. It's not gonna make any sense right now, but that's okay.
Drawing isn't actually about putting lines on the page. It's about rendering a 3D object in 2D, using lines on the page, which means first you have to learn to accurately render a 3D object from perspective in your mind, and the only way to do that is to learn real-world shapes and real-world perspective. It doesn't matter what you ultimately want to draw, that's how you start, every time.

Step 2 is to practice. You're 18 now, which means you have TONS AND TONS AND TONS of time to practice and get good. Don't worry about being good right away, that's not important. What's important is that you start now, and see improvement over the coming weeks, months, and years. Keep at it.

What makes you say that? I'm already deep in artfag hell so I just gotta do porn games but FUCK working.
>surround yourself with better artists
>constantly feel worse than them
>drive yourself to improve
>never feel good enough so you keep trying to get better
Also find an anime/game/artist you like and try to copy them religiously for 10 years, that's what I did with the guy who does Disgaea's art and it worked out pretty well.

Attached: 1534464799518.png (768x862, 812K)

Both pixel art and low poly are easier and honestly look better than 80% of 2D games, their limitations let you get away with a lot of shit

Ignore this guy.

You don't *have* to focus on only one thing, and it's often better if you don't.

The human brain can only focus on one thing for so long, and the best way to rest and recouperate is by practicing something completely different.

Practice drawing for an hour or two, then work on your programming or modeling or whatever else for an hour or two. Alternate that a few times, throw in an hour or so of some completely passive activity like watching something on Netflix or reading a book, and that's a good solid day of work right there!

It is in fact the exact opposite, limited tools make producing quality work much harder. This should be obvious from the sheer amount of indie pixelshit that has characters that are just rectangle people.

not him, not into anime, but you're a blind retard, there's fuckin lines pointing at everything you are looking for

bullshit, all you have to learn is how to trace from source material and some colour theory.

>in uni
University is full of artists who need to fill up their portfolios. They will work for free dude.

>only have music from a rando, barely an mc and general gameplay concept, and can't draw/pixel either, only can code basic shit
at this point i should make just commission some titties so i can sell a VN

SOUL / SOULLESS

Soul vs Soulless

No talent=big fail.

anatomically, the nose, chin and cheekbones were all in the wrong place. left eyebrow was too high and was throwing the rest of the face out of perspective.

also the ear lacked an impression of the interior folds and I'm guessing they're saying that eyelash wouldn't be visible from that perspective. though you could argue stylistic choice for those two.

no clue what 2 is pointing out.

>porn game
>can draw
>can program
>can make music
all you need is to fucking program, if you get something promising the rest doesn't matter, art is semi required but you can add that later.

Make models and then turn them into sprites

>my vision
what is your game gonna be about user?

oh interesting, I see it now, thanks user.

People still peddle this 2009 /ic/ stuff? That's interesting.

God, these threads are all the same

>I want to do a thing but I'm not skilled enough
Then get skilled. You're on the fucking internet, if you want to learn to do something, I gaurantee there's learning materials online. You live in the age of unlimited information flow. Just fucking do it. It's that easy.

>I want to do a thing but I'm always on Yea Forums
Then get off of Yea Forums. Block it if you have to. Unplug the internet from your computer. Just fucking do it

>I want to do a thing but nyeeeeeeh
Just do it. If you feel like you've got problems like depression or ADD or some other mental problem, then go see a doctor about it.

>No one should do anything because skill is meaningless and talent is something you need but don't have
Fuck off.

There. Sort your own self out.

Yeah.
Because it works.
And it's worked for thousands of years.

Do you have a wife to inspire you?

Attached: 1557570296390.jpg (1400x1200, 249K)

No, limited tools make for a higher skill ceiling, sure, but in this case they also have lower skill "floors". Both have pretty much non-existent physical skill requirements, are lenient to a lack of art knowledge, are very easy to fix or modify, and have a plethora of existing styles to analyze and use as inspiration even if you don't have abstract art skills, they're pretty much putting pieces into place. Meanwhile traditional 2D art is scrutinized like crazy and requires a ton of physical skill, art knowledge, and abstract/creative skills. The rectangle people example is the worst and laziest possible use of the medium, something like Stardew Valley shows you what a solo dev can make without any previous skills, the pixel art in the game is lacking in proportions, depth, perspective, etc and the artstyle is not everyone's favorite, but the game's art is still on a very competent level and very charming looking.

Post your art now.

It doesn't have to be 8 hours a day NON STOP. You can take breaks.
It doesn't even have to be 8 hours, strictly speaking. It just has to be a concerted effort over a significant length of time. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

You barely need to do any of those things. People loved Hollow Knight and the guys who made that had no idea how to program at all, they used a Unity scripting engine that let them do drag and drop programming.

>tfw musicfag and artfag but no motivation to even make a VN to tell a story

You have your whole goddamn life ahead of you user, start it right

god I love MLP. it's such a great show. MLP is awesome.

oh no

>It doesn't even have to be 8 hours, strictly speaking.
>immediately backpedals when called out
Really wrinkles the brain. user, why don't you link us your portfolio and let's see how well your advice has gone for you?

Anyway, I have literally never spoken with a professional illustrator or artist who advocates shit like in those two posts. Everything you'll here will be along the lines of
>Draw what you love to draw, because it's the only thing that's gonna keep you motivated.
>Take your time, if you don't you'll burn out or hurt yourself.

Attached: 1439957570874.png (500x500, 13K)

you cannot stop him. you can only learn to join me in weaponizing his autism.

I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw

Well right now I'm learning python out of a book so I can learn some tutorial for making a roguelike on Reddit. But, man, it's gonna take a long time and I'm only gonna have the ability to make ascii games which nobody will play.
They also had one guy doing all the art and one guy doing all the music to go with the one guy muddling his way through programming. Plus, they were Aussies, which I feel has to count for something.
I appreciate the, uh, enthusiastic support, but I don't think I'll ever have the willingness or dedication to practice drawing shapes every day. I wish I did, but it ain't me.

common mistakes-chan is cute! CUTE!

>Want to make a game
>Can't program
>Can't draw

So then what would you recommend, smart guy?
Because yeah, burnout is real, but also, if you want to git gud quick, then you gotta do it a lot, and you gotta keep a consistent effort. Different people work at different paces, but starting at 8 hours a day, and then doing more or less and taking breaks when you need to is the best starting point.

REMINDER: three months left until you pieces of shit finally fucking die forever.
Wait, nevermind, it looks like China is going through with leaking the rest of the last season early.
That means you only have three weeks left until your demise.
And even if you're planning on toughing it out until October, good luck on trying to navigate the Internet without coming across any spoilers between then and when the finale is SUPPOSED to air.
Tick tock, your time is getting short

Attached: Bronies, this is your mindset.png (307x157, 28K)

Has anyone translted all those anime drawing resources?

I love MLP though. why do you hate us so much?

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU GET TO DO THOSE THINGS?

You think anyone came out the fucking pussy knowing how to code? Fuck no.
You're on the goddamn internet. Google that shit. Come on dude. Give yourself some credit.

I just started watching MLP the day before yesterday. Feels strange, like I rocked up to Guyana as they were mixing the kool-aid and asked if I were allowed to join.

You know, stop thinking of it as a chore. At this point you literally have nothing else to do in your freetime other than code, and make your assets more than likely.

Please tell me what you think your bullshit obsession with this piece of shit fucking show has to do with video games or drawing, you fucking cretin.

Reminder: game development isn't easy. It's a discipline contrived of several skills working together. Whining about not having the skills to make a game is like whining about not knowing how to use a hammer to build a house.
The best time to learn was 10 years ago, second best time is now. Start cracking, anons

I like that art style user, keep working on it and develop it. Maybe look into alternative ideas, instead of comics or video. Try maybe like a 'slice of life' kinda character?

>kernie and richingham meme
kys

i haven't thought about making a comic but now that you mention it i could do a nice little comedic webcomic with this art style to establish my characters/setting first.

For the love of god just read the /ic/ sticky

I like how you went from giving advice to asking for it without actually being less of an asshole about it, kek.

My advice isn't that different from what I already posted.
>draw what you like, even if it's anime, you're inevitably going to plateau for a while and enjoying your subject matter is the only thing that's gonna keep you going
>You only have a few hours or less of effective practice in you a day, when you can tell you've hit the limit just stop and draw strictly for fun or do something else. Do not draw for 8 hours a day and don't force yourself to practice when you can tell you're done.

not all of them but /ic/ has a lot of resources

I've considered just dropping in and learning at the same time yet I haven't started yet.

you don't need good art to make a good game

>want to make vidya

Just do it, friend. Feeling frustrated coding? Draw a bit, vice versa? Practice programming? Angry at both? Play some vidya and chill.
It's all about enjoyment.

I'd be drawing right now if I could afford a drawing tablet.

>1.耳の位置は目と平行でアゴの付け根あたりに
Connect the position of the ears parallel to the eyes and start of the jaw.
>2.前髪の生え方を?える
The arrow is a bit misleading here and my JP is shit, but it's pointing out the shitty way the bangs were done.
>3.目の大きさ、見ている方向を左右合わせる
Size of the eyes, Match the direction of the eyes.
>4.眉毛の高さを合わせる
Match the height of the eyebrows
>5.アゴの位置は口の下に
Location of the chin should be below the mouth.
>6.頬のふくらみは目のすぐ下に
The cheek should bulge out directly below the eyes.
>7.鼻と口とアゴは顔の中心に
Nose, Mouth, and Chin should be in the center of the face.

This terrible translation brought to you by an user who a few months ago would not have been able to read this.
Keep at it bros, we're all gonna make it.

Attached: 1543683336774.png (1280x720, 510K)

Use a premade engine if you don't want to team up with someone that can code. People are more willing to forgive shit gameplay with good art than they are good gameplay with shit art, so even if the style of game you want to make doesn't have any good engines, you'll still be good to go.

>Use a premade engine
got any suggestions?

draw on paper faggit traditional mterials cost less

What kind of game are you looking to make?

I would, but I'm afraid that somebody will find and see my drawings.

>You're 18 now, which means you have TONS AND TONS AND TONS of time
Man I wish I thought like that when I was 15, after I became 18 I can barely make some time to draw.
I was never good anyway so not like it's a loss for anyone.

>Tfw sucking ass at learning the fundamentals of drawing
Being the ideas guy sucks, as for programming I want the gameplay in my dream game to be a mix of Megaman Battle network and TWEWY. With a almost super heroish comic book style, maybe I should start small like RPG maker or some shit, don't even want to bother with my 3d game ideas

Attached: 1561249911646.jpg (519x384, 173K)

Doesn't matter. Pick up gamemaker or Godot or unity and just make something.

Drawn and then purge. Stop holding attachment to your practice materials. Do you think mathematicians or physicists keep their 5th grade math homework or are afraid of what people will think of they see it?

>ideas guy
Just like put effort into your designs instead of wishy washy "it's a mix of x and y."
Idea guys talk in generalities, designers talk in specifics.

Nigger, there are alternate tools now and shortcuts on how to draw...

Just let Kentaro Yabuki (To-Love Ru) show you

>mfw

there are now tools to turn your 3d models to sprites.....

Attached: ui-screen.jpg (1086x904, 228K)

i got some stuff i've been wanting to use for a simple FPS game. also i have a ton of concept art for a turn-based RPG, but i imagine RPGs are a pain in the ass to make regardless.

that looks bad though

>There's tons of shortcuts!
>Here's a video of a dude who's been drawing for thousands of hours show you!

Hurrr.

Professionals can still use references. That's allowed. You still have to know fundamentals to know how shading works, or where to put the eyeballs

Drawing well doesn't have to mean drawing everything from memory. It means using the best tools available to you to get the best result, which still means knowing exactly when and how to use those tools, and how to fill in the gaps yourself.

Art is the big thing that has been sapping my motivation lately. It takes me an immense amount of time and effort to make really shitty art assets, so I end up feeling like I'm spending 99% of my time on what is both the worst part of the game, and the one I care the least about. I'm considering switching gears and making a turn-based strategy game or something just so I can more easily get away with having really simplistic animations.

I'm gonna start drawing tonight. Thanks for the motivation guys. I hope nobody digs through my trash

its a tool not a solution, cleaning it up would be the next step

alright, its makes for an ehh okay start but i really hope people don't use the initial generated sprites and call it a day.

>can code
That is the hardest part. If you can do that, then anything else comes easier.

Literally all my games involve crude MS paint drawings.
In one game a walk cycle proved so far above my paygrade I instead had the protagonist be a number that increments when he walks, so I could feel like I gave him a walk cycle, when the sprites to do so are instead simply the numbers 1 through 8 with 0 for "stopped" and 9 for "falling"

someone translate this image, I want to try drawfagging again

Attached: mpv-shot0004.jpg (1280x720, 64K)

>will never ever get to the level of the "before" drawing
hold me anons

My distaste for drawing will probably keep me out of game dev forever. I don't even want to pretend to learn and then give up, drawing just seems gay.

Do you have to be good at drawing to make pixel art? And by pixel art I mean Environmental Alpha Station esque.

PUREEZU BUY S.H.Figuarts NROW!
