Super Mutants are infertile due to how the strain of FEV affects their DNA. The process that created them bolsters and repairs damaged genes, but in doing so destroys the half-cells needed for sexual reproduction. That's why there aren't Super Mutant babies.

I understand that super mutants are infertile. What doesn't make sense is that the Mastermind is unaware of this despite being unwilling to accept any path that doesn't involve super mutants being fertile. How the fuck does he not realize this earlier, despite having decades of time to survey super mutant fertility? And somehow I am expected to believe that he is only convinced by a possibly fabricated report from his only credible threat in the Wasteland? It doesn't take a fucking rocket scientist to determine if something can breed. This should have been one of the first god damn things he did, since if he wanted a race of super mutants, then they have to be able to fuck each other. If they can't fuck each other, then it is obvious that the plan is doomed from the start. Yet he never took this incredibly obvious step, instead he just kept dipping humans (despite supposedly wanting to not have to rely on humans). The logic makes no sense.

I know I'm being the annoying guy who's quoting everyone, but with the way Bethesda just fucking uses Super Mutants in every single god damn game no matter how little sense it makes:
One could maybe argue from a fringe-basis that Super Mutants 'can' in fact reproduce and the idea they couldn't was something of a misunderstanding or confusion based around the numerous factors concerning how Super Mutants keep making more of themselves? And that the Vault Dweller and The Master weren't 'lying' or 'wrong', per-say, but were just confused or hadn't put SM under the right conditions.
Maybe SM's are capable of asexual reproduction and they just bud or clone off of one another and that's why they not only gather vast quantities of meat (to feed and fuel cellular division), but why Super Mutant Behemoths keep popping up here and there- they're 'pregnant' Super Mutants. But this was something of a natural and 'lengthy' process that it only happens when SM's are abandoned in the wild to their own devices and outside of lab conditions.
