Replaying it now. Now in Chapter Six I find myself looking forward to and dreading the end. Arthur is a fantastic character and I'm gonna miss him all over again but I can't wait to get to those last emotional moments again either. Arthur's last ride, escaping with John, "We ain't both gonna make it", trying to kill Micah, "Ahhh Dutch I gave you everything I had", May I Stand Unshaken. I don't want to to end but my god that's some good stuff right there boys.

And then I've got to do Ranch work for like an hour before getting to the good stuff as John.

On my 2nd playthrough I came to appreciate the slow start to the epilogue as John. The buildup to that farm shootout scene with the RDR1 theme playing and this pose was so fucking kino

What is this theory that Arthur actually contracted TB from Hosea? I guess it doesn't change much other than the thought he has that the TB is punishment for how he lived his life, when really it was just random chance.

He has some coughing spells early on, and when they wake him up on the boat, he is sweating profusely (night sweats are another common sign of TB). I liked how the game dropped hints.

This is the most based and redpilled way to play Arthur
Chapter 1-4 medium length default hair (always wearing default hat) with a goatee and low honor
Chapter 5-6 unkempt hair and full length beard (no hat until final missions) high honor

When you beat that one farmer up he spits blood into his mouth. That sealed his fate. If you read his journal you would realize after he gets captured by the O’driscols that really accelerated the TB and so did guarma, also if you run to the point of exhaustion he starts coughing really badly (before he knows he’s infected)

RDR2 is flawed on many aspects but god damn the story is a perfect 10/10. There's nothing wrong about it. I don't know how they managed to make me care about Arthur and hate Micah with such passion but they did somehow and months after finishing the game, the story still left a big impact on me.
I've played many games after that but nothing really matched the experience like going trough the story of Red Dead 2. For comparison, God of War and Witcher 3 were both really good but I stopped caring as soon as the credits rolled.

I am replaying the game mostly just hunting early game, but I remembered Guarma. The whole chapter felt like an asspull. The gang got all the money but then the writers whizzed up a storm to fuck them. Granted, they'd still be fucked because of Dutch, but I mean come on. The worst part about the chapter is that it focuses so much on combat, the game's weakest point.

Yeah, I know how Arthur assumes he contracted TB. That's just not how TB is typically spread. Usually, it is spread through prolonged, close contact with someone who is infected.

That was one of the highlights of the game for me. Chapter 5 is honestly kino if you play it all in one sitting and don't get distracted by other shit. Instead of the usual slow pacing and open world exploring of the other chapters, 5 is basically 3 hours of non stop action where you just go mission to mission and it doesn't let up. It's also where the story takes a big turn and you see that the gang is truly fucked. You get off Guarma only to run into Pinkertons at the old camp, then a few minutes later reunite with the gang only for another Pinkerton ambush right away. Also, fucking Unshaken.

It was a fucking drag when i played it for the first time, holy shit

The full squad roll up to the braithwaite mansion. Also a personal one for me, but the mission where you help monroe escape. Started the mission in the afternoon so it was dusk when we got him to the train, and it all felt wrapped up with the setting sun and departing train, the nun scene directly after made it even better with the sunset lightning. After that cutscene I just solemnly stared at the train leaving till it was dark and i couldnt see it anymore.

I think what really sold the game and made us care about Arthur is just how real he is. He's genuinely just a genuine person. He doesn't feel like, act like, or talk like a character. He feels, acts, and talks like a real person. It's genuinely the most crushing thing to see him deteriorate because it's a real person deteriorating. He was written so well he just feels like a person.

I'm on run #3 (don't judge me) and I'm still finding new shit. Pretty choked that I still missed some camp missions though (robbery with Mary-Beth & Sean and one with Tilly & Bill)

Really liked the first game, but I tried the second one and I found it started so slowly and cinematic. I was just bored for the first hour. It ended with me lending it to a friend instead then selling it.
I realise I should actuslly give it a proper go now but please say it isn't that slow through out the rest of the game.
I don't mind cutscenes and stuff but I seem to remember "walk slow while NPC speaks" taking up a majority of the first hour. There was even a cinematic horse ride button if I remember right.

Arthur is probably my favourite video game protagonist. Charming and comes with a wonderful character arc.

I literally uninstalled the game and reinstalled it with no updates just so I could take Arthur to New Austin. I wanted to give him a vacation before he had to die since that kind of country was what he really loved.

I cried like three times throughout the game. I never cry to anything.

If it was under a good production team, do you guys think this game would make a compelling TV series? Something scale in terms of The Sopranos. Likely no bigger than 3 seasons though.

Simply his character arc I'd say. Arthur deep down had some good in him, but I think what resonates with people is the fact that he archives his redemption through his death; such a character needs to die.

He has little elements, such as his fiancée the death of his son, and the fact that Dutch has an element of manipulation towards Arthur. His VA also helped too.

In 1 the tone of the game, John's remarks, and how Dutch, Bill, and Javier act all paint the picture that Dutch's Boys were a brutal and harsh gang. You can tell they chose to reimagine them as a lot softer in 2 to make the narrative more appealing. Hosea I imagine was designed from the ground up with this goal in mind. Also, in 1 ita obvious they threw Javier in just as an excuse to go to Mexico which is one of the reasons he's much more parodic and stereotypical in that game. In 2 they were like "oh shit, he has to be a serious character"

I like this scene but I can imagine so many people missed it and didn't even know who Joe was. They get a very brief introduction to Arthur and by extension the player right before the mission with the indians attacking the oil field, which them and Micah aren't present for, and Cleet works with Arthur and Sadie holding off the patrol. The next time you see Joe is at the camp when Arthur returns, and then nothing till John encounters him.

I recall something like that happens with Dutch after Arthur insists. The music kicks in right after he finishes addressing the group and starts muttering to himself about Arthur insisting.

It's kind of left to your own interpretation, whether it was the hit on his head (The next mission right after he gets all pissed off with Hosea and Arthur and claims how Micah is the only one still loyal), he was always like that and never cared to begin with (Which John and Arthur seemed to think, that he was always like that) or he became like that after Hosea dying and all the pressure and failures mounting (which Sadie seems to think, saying how the man who rescued her in the mountains was not the same one at Beaver Hollow), or a combination of them.

If RDR2 would be a movie instead it would probably get nominated for best original script, there are barely western that are written that good. Arthur starts showing signs of doubt throughtout the game but it's not until Hosea dies that Dutch starts becoming really unhinged and at that point Arthur got TB basically.
