After 15 years of owning a copy, picking it up and putting it down multiple times, I finally finished Silent Hill 2 today. Please join me in celebration as we discuss the pinnacle of psychological horror in video gaming Questions apply to the entire series not just 2.
What's your favorite ending?
Who's your favorite character?
Favorite in game joke (ending, weapon, costume etc.)
What was the last one you played?
Favorite game in the original 4 and favorite of the post team silent titles?
I got the "In Water" ending and it seemed fitting though what I love most about the game is the ambiguity and space it leaves to draw your own conclusions. Truly a masterpiece.
Wait what? You had such low interest in SH2 that it took you 15 years to finish it and then say it's the pinnacle of horror? Feels like you're trying to fit in. You don't HAVE to like it because people say its good if you don't.
Luke Moore
>What's your favorite ending? Alien ending because I got it by accident without ever hearing about it >Who's your favorite character? Heather, but in SH2 it's Maria >Favorite in game joke (ending, weapon, costume etc.) The HD Collection >What was the last one you played? Silent Hill 3 >Favorite game in the original 4 and favorite of the post team silent titles? For me it's Silent Hill 3, but I love all original 4, 4 being the most underappreciated game in the series
After that, Homecoming was fun the first time and pretty much defined what the SH transformation would look like but playing it again is nauseating. Had great boss designo
Exact same for downpour too
Never played the diablo like
Everything else is irrelevant
How rude of you to not as about my favorite song (It's theme of laura)
Game was such a disappointment after the first one. Complete waste of potential, and the story was edgelord Donnie Darko bullshit.
Jack Richardson
I agree, SH3 has better horror visuals and overall creepiness. Also Heather has much more commentaries on anything, making her feel human. The only thing I prefer about SH2 is that it isn't about the cult. Religious themes really turn me off.
Dylan Martin
>SH2 is great but I think SH3 is better Why? I feel like every problem with 2 was worse in 3. 2 had a lack of enemy variety, but 3's enemies were just downright annoying a lot of the time. 3's story had a lot of issues with consistency and character development, and it felt like it also had more cinematic sections/deaths which I didn't care for.
Nolan Scott
>The only thing I prefer about SH2 is that it isn't about the cult. Religious themes really turn me off. The cult stuff was mostly just a way to tie everything together but 1 and 3 had more going on to their stories
>What's your favorite ending? Dog ending >Who's your favorite character? Heather but I promise I'm not a waifufag >Favorite in game joke (ending, weapon, costume etc.) see first answer >What was the last one you played? SH4, the only SH I didn't play over and over. My first time was at release and then it was not long ago, surprised how I enjoyed it. >Favorite game in the original 4 and favorite of the post team silent titles? 3, only played HC or Origin afterwards. HC was kinda fun in a way. Felt like I was playing a licensed game of the first movie, which I enjoyed regardless. Origin I absolutely hated though.
I've always maintained a huge interest in the game and the series but was a huge pussy as a teenager (when I bought it) and couldn't play through it alone, tried again as a young adult and was turned off by the clunkiness and didn't have the patience to figure things out on my own. It had been on my mind for a while so i finally pulled it out and went to town the last two days and appreciate it more than I thought I ever would.
Joshua Torres
3 has more horror though. 2 is more low creep. Depends what you prefer, but I feel more unnerved by 3 in most areas. I like the comfyness of 2 though, you never really get tense because its so easy and yet it's enjoyable.
Austin Butler
>What's your favorite ending? Rebirth >Who's your favorite character? Claudia, she's only trying to help everybody but lacks awereness >Favorite in game joke (ending, weapon, costume etc.) Dog ending >What was the last one you played? SH4 >Favorite game in the original 4 and favorite of the post team silent titles? My fav is 3, of the post-4 games, HC is kind of ok, the rest are garbage.
Evan Parker
Thinking I'll start 3 tomorrow on PC, excited to play 4, I know there's a great divide with in the fan base but it seems most people have come around to enjoy it.
Gabriel Martinez
What happens after rebirth ending anyway, is Mary actually ressurrected or does James spawn some godawful monster from the netherworld?
Hunter Stewart
Once you understand ghosts aren't a big threat and that if you walk the dogs won't charge you, it become fun. I really liked it, minus some things like some enemy designs being absolutely bad like those stuck in walls that slap you around when you try to go up the elevator.

...did you guys watch that youtube video disproving the myth that Tomm Hulett is responsible for the current state of SH? Even Fungo apologised to him.
Ayden Russell
Sauce? I only know Hulett as the guy that ruined SH
it's worth a listen, really sad this guy only was trying to be the english spokesman between those Konami corporates and the fans, so the hate was directed towards him even when he had no say in the development
Gavin Bell
wat
Sebastian Collins
>now that everyone hates Konami Tomm comes back to say he dindu nuffin and it was all their fault Exactly what you would expect from that worm.
Kayden Allen
rebirth ending shows James rowing back across the lake with Mary's corpse with the intention of resurrecting her.
Evan Lee
you didnt watch the video
Andrew Wilson
>What's your favorite ending? The only ending I got after like four playthroughs, "In Water" I think it's called.
Yes I did. It's a load of bullshit and incredibly transparent in it's attempts to convince everyone that Tomm in fact wasn't a complete cunt despite him clearly being one in the past.
James Cooper
>What's your favorite ending? Leave
>Who's your favorite character? Heather
>Favorite in game joke Dog ending
>What was the last one you played? 2
>Favorite game in the original 4 and favorite of the post team silent titles? 2, Origins
Jason Baker
Maria ending best, go home suicides
Ryder Jackson
>with the intention of resurrecting her you don't know that, and the point is that nothing happens, he just gets lost in his subconscious
William Perez
>really sad this guy only was trying to be the english spokesman between those Konami corporates and the fans
