Is the gameplay of Fortnite actually bad, or do people just hate it because of the childish fanbase?

The gameplay is pretty bad. The gunplay is weak and clearly wasn't really meant for a multiplayer game but everyone just kind of rolls over on that aspect. Similarly while building is the huge gimmick of the whole thing it's intensely unfun and negates playstyles that would otherwise be rewarded; intelligent positioning and moving is replaced with reliance on scripts to throw up instantaneous structures. People try to argue it's a "different type of skill" or something similar all the time without addressing the underpinning fact that it's just not fucking fun and is tedious as all hell.

My roommate plays it every fucking night. I asked him if I could try it a couple weeks ago. It's fucking ass. The shooting is terrible and whenever you get in a fight people just spam walls everywhere. My main gripe was the shooting, just awful.

>Spend 10 minutes waiting to see someone else, combining running toward gunfire and waiting in safe locations to see if anyone shows up
>Finally see someone
>They instantly build a tower of stairs as soon as they see me and then snipe me

Why does Fortnite get a reputation for being for kids when there are no less children playing it than did CoD, Halo or Battlefield?

This. There is alot of space between action and looting, it can really feel like an MMO grind early in a match. Can get boring fast, but at the end its fast as hell. The building is shitty and a trick to get around a fight, gunplay is clunky and you will constantly look for a better one, graphic look good but are not my style. Its only fun if you have alot of time to kill or you get no where skill wise. No idea why it is popular honestly but I give it a 7/10, fuck lootbox skin bullshit btw.

game is polished and devs are doing a good job keeping the game fresh, although they add stupid shit sometime.
gunplay is really bad for mid-range cause of random spray patterns, but i think sniping and close range is good.
Building raises the skill ceiling, so its very welcome for me.

that's why this is a shit game, it's a slap in the face to people who have played shooters all of their life, because it takes the skills you're so good at and throws them in the trash

any of the kids you face in fortnite would get smoked in conventional shooters, it's their safe space, and the reason it's so popular

add the battle royale game mode on top of that and what doesn't reward skill in the first place, now add random weapons, and random objectives entirely based on luck

It's probably not "bad" but it's one of the worst battle royal games mechanically, while ironically also being one of the last on the market.

it is for kids, because none of the skills that mattered in shooters apply here

im the gay "Playing since season 5" DK posting user and uhhhh fuck i still dont build like that. im always in the top 5 and get killed by what we call a bob the builder, fucking making it in like 0.5 seconds too....I just build stairs to get stuff and platforms...ah fuck..

I think the game is actually good. Battle royal mode, at least. It's polished and fun to play when you actually learn how to play it properly (ie. building, which isnt fucking hard at all). The actual PvE game is terribly unpolished and needs a big face lift. I like it though as a looting, wave-based zombie game that I can just play casually.
The BR game can get hate for things like building and wonky shooting, but most people only hate the game for how it appeals to children. The biggest example is how normies parrot "unga bunga minecraft good fortnite bad". Many people hardly even give the game a chance because of the stigma they put on it. There are also the people who just fucking give up when someone builds a single vertical wall. Most people in the game don't "build a giant mansion" the moment they see you, they just build a wall and a staircase. Just spend the time to get used to the building mechanic just like you get used to any other mechanic in a game you just started.

Why would you feel insulted because a game wasn't tailored towards you? And my friend would demolish me anytime we played against each other in fortnite simply because his aim was better. I would try fancy edits and he'd just blow my head off because when it came down to the actual kill situation he had a better shot. Just because it plays different to other shooters doesn't mean the game requires no skill.
