They thought that a difficult bossrush mode is good bang for your buck as a free dlc thing.
It's not a particularly good ending that you get as a reward either. And the lore isn't important to the main story.
Godhome content is optional and I say it as someone who's spent more time on it then on the main game.

You'll need a key. Go back to the Colosseum and start breaking the walls on the far right. Theres a new area
Breakable wall in the canals under city of tears to the left kind of on the way toward the boss that spawns rushers at you.
It's a pain in the ass to find if you've already done the area on an old patch.

Embrace the void/flower endings are you kill radiance, save your brother and either disappear/get banished or you are released as a living manifestation of void united and given mind and probably fucking shit up

The music is not that amazing. It's fine for an indie, but it's not hotline miami.
I was much more impressed with the backgrounds and the world feeling and how it flows naturally between zones.

Team Cherry has the best dlc model where they make difficult endgame content that isn't required to beat the game.
I agree on the sound design. The use of the music in the mantis lords fight for example is great.

Metroid really shines when it brings the sci-fi atmosphere with tones of isolation horror/suspense. Shit like Nightmare’s silhouette flyby before the whole ARC zone gets fucked in Fusion or the whole opening sequence of Super makes for the greatest flavor of tension.
Hollow Knight feels like a Newgrounds platformer that gorged on Dark Souls, cocooned itself, and emerged as a beautiful 10/10 indie butterfly. There’s something intensely nostalgic about playing it without being derivative or generic.

It's an ending. It's actually two endings, you could argue if it's a true ending, but it's not 'just' a cinematic. Radiance is dead, game over.

Metroid does not compete with HK because Mteroid isnt proper metroidvania.

So I actually played this game which Yea Forums says its better than HK.
-Shit 'story' (nonsensical, random bits of story stitched together)
-Awful sprites and background art, inconsistent at times
-A shit ton of mechanics simply left behind and never touched again (leveling up attacks)
-Such a bad metroidvania basically next to nothing changes if you sequence break
-Most battles are you spamming the same button next to the boss as you randomly get invincibility while a combo is still going
-Some decent OST tracks every now and then but most are bland and forgettable
-Abuse the 'le just fight every single boss in a row' shit three times in the same story mode
-Levels are bland, boss fights get repetitive really quick. Mixing bullet hell with platforming seems nice on paper but clunky when playing
Yet being honest they praise it because they created an imaginary enemy which is against the art style so they shut down any criticism towards this game calling strawmans on that enemy.
