The biggest problem with Kairi is that she's reasonably where she should be considering her lack of time to train properly. She could have been more than a deus ex machina engine, but Nomura decided he'd rather have four/five games that dealt with stuff in the past rather than using one game to catch Kairi up.

It's because Kairi's efforts were literally half-assed. Remember how Kairi preserved Sora in KH1? He still looked like a human. In KH3? Sora looks like a near GHOST like Kairi just didn't care enough to preserve him and Sora needed to literally work hard to save himself and of course save the others because Kairi doesn't care about the others. Kairi just comes off as someone who just doesn't care enough and remember all she did in that scene is "wish" for Sora to be preserved and she does it half-assed. Kairi is garbage. Even KH1 Kairi did a better job of that. But not anymore. So I again say it Kairi is trash. Should have stayed gone.

What led to the downfall of KH3? The blame should be placed on Osaka team. They first began developing KH games with BBS. That game was a significant stepdown from the ps2 offerings yet that is not all on Osaka team. The narrative of KH was forever ruined by the inclusion of the BBS trio. Ven is a derivative of Sora, lacking any personality. When he and Sora met in KH3, his failing as a character were exposed. There was no fun banter to be had between him and the others. He like the other bbs main characters have no presence. In kh3, they interact only with each other to do call backs to their own game. This is not on Osaka team. This is a failing of Nomura that becomes more prominent with each game. He added more and more characters despite not knowing what to do with his current roster. He deserves as much blame for the decline of Kingdom Hearts as anyone.

This is not to say that Osaka team is blameless. Their game design choices remain annoying at best and a tremendous failure at their best. They and Nomura are a bad pairing. If Kingdom Hearts is to become produce a generation-defining game like Ocarina of Time, FFVII, RE4, GTAV, or Last of Us, this pairing has to be broken up.

For mechanics, reduce cooldowns on some combo swings for some keyblades, let guard be more consistant, increase the speed for keyswapping, more rebalancing with magic, summons, and crit damage instead of giving us an accessory at the start.

Story? At this point I don't even know anymore. Sorta miss when KH was more down to earth with 1, CoM, and sorta 2. Feels like every character has an ulterior motive or something.

Zelda doesn’t place its chips on the timeline because each game is a separate experience unless otherwise stated one is a sequel/prequel to another.

All of the Kingdom Hearts games are narratively tied together.
