It's an artifact of the aging genre of 3D platformer collectathons that truly shows its age to anyone who has played anything in the genre before other than the catastrophe that is spyro, which I can only loosely refer to as a platformer. Jak suffers greatly from too many minigames and control changes which leads to not enough in-game emphasis on its solid core movement mechanics, a poor collection system that doesnt differentiate enough between hidden orbs that must be revealed through minigames or puzzles and orbs that are readily available, and a lack of motivation to reach any number of orbs for certain checkpoints other than "all of them at the very end".

I think about GX often
How was it so good? The music, the AI, the vehicles all feeling unique.
Each racer had their own personality. Starting next to Pico meant you'd better be careful cause that nigga was gonna ram you. Mighty Gazelle was always at the front of the pack and didn't fuck around.
Not to mention the story mode. That was some real bullshit that felt like an achievement for even beating the easiest levels.
