This is what peak Metroid looks like

Oh shit wrong pic anons, sorry

>niggers whine because it's not a palette swap of Zero Mission or Super
>while Mercury Steam made an entire new combat system aside from the counter lifted from MoF

Maybe if it wasn't 3 hours long and the Metroid fights weren't pure cancer

Peak of an anthill, maybe.

that combat system is shit. free-aiming without twin sticks is a mistake. seriously both major parts of the combat system require the player to stand still. that fucking sucks.

Play more games.

Play more games that aren't Mercuryshit. MS wouldn't know how to optimise the performance of a game even if it shit directly into their mouths.
Terrible studio.

Series went to shit after this. Nothing personal, kid.

Metroid 2/remake is fun but it's the least 'Metroid' Metroid game besides Other M.

It was okay.

Game performed fine, as did the combat system, you tranny

Super Metroid was the peak, but the later games were still great.

I'm sad we'll never get a true successor to this game

Pretty much. At the end of the day, SR and AM2R are remaking a painfully linear game that offers little exploration.

very few of the Metroid games are actually nonlinear
Super is. ZM is to a lesser extent. Metroid is more of an open world. Prime only is if you start glitching. And that's about it.

It's a decent game but Mercury Steam can't design a boss fight or balance mechanics to save their life. Nintendo acting as their tard wrangler is likely the only thing that kept it from being on the same level as Mirror of Fate.

The free aiming in Samus Returns is great. Being able to do it in 360 degrees is amazing.

No, it's a shitty terrible disaster, just like MoF. Shit level design, shit bosses, shit mechanics, and the game just drags on and on and it's terrible.

Federation force is better in every way.

>Mercury Steam can't design a boss fight
*ahem*

So your response is to prove my point?

Was their ever a better time to be a metroid fan than 2017?
>Am2r comes out
>MP4 and SR both revealed at e3

2002-2007

Diggernaut was way too long, but the fight itself wasn't bad.

Please. Not even close.

It was fine, but it doesn't even touch most of the other 2d games

Even worse

this. Prime years were our Halcion days

Samus Returns has better bosses than anything in the Metroid series.

Diggernaut fight was based af, you just have shit taste

Eh I'd say it loses points for the parts where you have to trick it into sucking up your morph bombs, namely because it's not explained or telegraphed in any way, and your experience with sucking wind+bombs til that point is that it renders them useless.

This was seriously some of the worst game design I think in a Metroid game period. I seriously thought the game was broken.

I don't understand SR. they threw out 90% of the game, yet kept the worst parts of it. If they were going to abandon everything, why not innovate and create something fresh?

t. brainlets

I bet you fuckers shit your pants at Draygon, too.

I recently tried a Metroid game for the first time last month and have been playing through these games constantly ever since.
AM2R > Super > Zero Mission > Fusion (haven't played the original versions of 1 and 2, the Prime games, or Samus Returns)

Attached: 1554388932606.jpg (300x300, 42K)

I appreciate both AM2R and SR for not having disgusting, putrid sex fanservice constantly pushed in my face. I just wish the rest of Metroid would be that way. Infact, I kinda wish both games would get rid of Zero Suit Period, so it wouldn't even appear in the end credits. It's not what metroid should be about, and I don't want Prime 4 falling to the same cancer.

Shucks, I can't even talk about Metroid in smash threads because people are too busy praising Zero Suit and Metroid: Other M. It feels like they've never even touched the series if THAT is their idea of quality.

try out the prime games if you have the opportunity but don't feel bad if you don't like them

>Super
>nonlinear
It follows a very defined path if you don't know how to speedrun it. The only nonlinear Metroid game is the original, since you can go pretty much anywhere with a minimal amount of items.

Imagine hating a game like Metroid Prime because it has no titties to jerk off to. Absolutely shallow.

>try out the prime games if you have the opportunity
One of my friends is a huge fan of the Prime series and has constantly been asking me to play them, to the point where it's getting annoying. Part of the reason I even played Zero Mission in the first place was to fuck with him, since he's never played a 2D one.

>if you don't know how to speedrun it.
Having an execution barrier is exactly why I think sequence breaking is interesting tbqh. I don't think this is a bad thing and I don't think this nullifies the nonlinearity in the game.
>The only nonlinear Metroid game is the original, since you can go pretty much anywhere with a minimal amount of items.
I'd rather describe the game as an open world if I'm being honest. Nonlinearity in my book means having a number of options about how to progress, not having every option about how to progress.

2007:
>fanbase riding high off prime 3
>hunters was still active
>people still thought dread was just around the corner
>other m not conceived yet
>no smash bros brawl to flood the fanbase with secondaries and ruin samus and her fanart forever

2007 was the end of good times

That was truly when things took a turn for the worse, but let's be honest. Samus being out of her suit should've never been a thing period. The series would instantly improve if you kept her from ever leaving her suit. No zero suit, no regular under clothing, she just remains in her power armor 24/7. Also retcon the manga if possible. This stupid flimsy attempt to make Samus a "deep" character and giving her a tragic backstory just comes off as maximum cringe.

Reminder that you've just responded to ACFag, an 8 year autistic shitposter that falseflags as a Metroid fan to derail topics from discussion on the hit video game series Metroid to non-issues like tits or how Yea Forums or Yea Forums or any other board that mentions Metroid praises Other M despite it being the complete opposite.
He also shitposts in anything related to bayonetta because her design is too sexual for him, and other Metroidvania/Metroid-like threads.
Do not respond to the shitposter, you absolute fucking newfags.

metroid games longer than 2 hours. what are you doing that it takes you that long bro. most metroid games can be beaten in under an hour and not by speedrunners either

So it's shitposting to want less Zero suit in Metroid, but it's NOT shitposting to spam "dilate tranny" multiple posts over? I even clearly explain why I feel that way. What more do you want?

It led to the Zero Suit, so it's the seed that needs to be ripped out before it grows into a massive problem tree. How else is Metroid ever going to recover from its giant slump?

Pen, what are you doing here, boyo? I know you made an MSPaint comic edit, I saw it in the catalog earlier. Shouldn't you be out spamming that instead?

I would say Super is the "objective" best 2D Metroid, but this may be one of my favourites. I've played Super, this, ZM and Fusion again recently. Fusion is by far my least favourite of the four, but it's still a great game.

Samus Returns has my favourite Grapple Beam of the lot though. Most games either barely use it, or it's Prime 3 with it's waggle and how there's more upgrades for it that barely do anything.

Fuck off boomer

Fusion is the best metroid game

Peak Metroid was the Prime Trilogy, then it died off a little until SR regained interest.
Now we got metroid-likes and Metroidvanias up the ass, so I'm not complaining.

Play Zero Mission if you want a real Metroid. Samus Returns was a decent effort, but nowhere near up to snuff. This series STILL deserves better and I'm STILL waiting for something half as good as Super Metroid or Zero Mission.

I miss it when Samus had a different design in every game. Seeing Samus out of the armor used to be exciting because you didn't know what she would look like, now you know it's just going to be another variant of the zero suit.

zero suit ruined metroid

I don't see how Samus Returns is less of a real Metroid than any other Metroid game. Also half of those issues were in the original Metroid 2, and if they changed them too significantly, they might as well make a whole new game.

There wouldn't be much problem with that. Metroid 2 was barely a game to even begin with. It was extremely repetitious and held back by the GB's hardware. It's not like they'd be remaking a game that was already great to begin with.

Bingo. That's my main issue: Metroid 2 was shit to begin with. This was their chance to improve upon the game, specifically the exploration and progression, and they didn't. It's still a decent game, and I prefer it to the original, but I wish their efforts were spent on making a new game entirely instead of remaking a game that was never good to begin with.

based

No it's objectively not

Attached: 1472104867990.jpg (297x296, 39K)

>major parts of the combat system require the player to stand still
the game was DESIGNED that in mind, if you could move, the game would've been different

It's very likely that Samus Returns was Mercury Steam's practice run, like Fusion was to the Wario Land team back in 2002.
