Banjo-Kazooie >Do an easy task, get a jiggy, not kicked out of the world >Transform into animals and objects that each have their own special moves (Mumbo, Humba) >Quizzed about parts of the game (Grunty's Furnace Fun) >Biggest complaint is there's too much to collect (Tooie)
Mario Odyssey >Do an easy task, get a moon, not kicked out of the world >Transform into animals and objects that each have their own special moves (Cappy) >Quizzed about parts of the game (Sphinx) >Biggest complaint is there's too much to collect
Do not feel sad that Banjo-Threeie will never happen, his style of game lives on.
Only a handful of stars let you wander around the place.
Andrew Perez
Galaxy 1 still had quite a few relatively open spaces alongside the simple linear courses, like the bee and penguin levels. Only in Galaxy 2 Nintendo went all out on the linear Super Mario 3D Land style stages.
Austin Scott
>Mario Odyssey is also clearly inspired by Super Mario Land How
Nicholas Johnson
What's Ape Escape 3 like? I just finished 2. What changes?
Dominic Barnes
I fucking hate super mario 3D world, one of my biggest let down ever after the jewel that was galaxy 2
Kevin Edwards
let's just say some user keeps shitting up threads by insisting mario odyssey copied ape escape 3 with a video that has a boring rap music in it
Noah Lopez
>odyssey >too much to collect The problem was there were only moons to collect and they all had zero challenge.
Chase Phillips
>Galaxy 2 - 3D World Did you forget about 3D Land?
Liam Morris
The Stars are just a collectible to provide context to the levels. It's otherwise mostly linear hence why Nintendo groups Galaxy 1/2 in with the 3D World family as the course clear-style design of 3D Mario.
Jordan Jenkins
The comparisons between Odyssey and Banjo had been discussed to death 9 months ago, but okay. I suppose it's a slow news day.
Robert Peterson
I remember seeing people reee over 98/100 purple coins
Adam Ortiz
>3DW-like game with expanded level design, bigger world maps, secret exits and Oyssey's physics and movement allowing for much harder and trickier platforming You might not like it but this is what true 3D plaftormer kino would look like
Camden James
He's kind of right but he goes about it so obnoxiously that no-one wants to listen to him. But some of the stuff in the video is undeniable (although some is more tenuous).
Wyatt Scott
you haven't played many games then
Nathaniel Reyes
They both are based on Mario visiting locations that visually are very far from Mario standards, with some being based on real-life cultures/locations. In Land, Mario even travels with a spaceship.
Jose Davis
How would you classify the Yoshi's Island games?
Yoshi's Island SNES
Yoshi's New Island 3DS
Yoshi's Woolly World WiiU
Yoshi's Crafted World Switch
Hudson Mitchell
That's a good observation, as long as people realize that all three of the styles listed in this image are valid and are good or bad on a game-by-game basis (every game in the image is good, for the record).
Gavin Ramirez
Linear. Everything else is more akin to AE1 but you will barely move from the intended line for the most part. Still worth it though.
Colton Sanders
I'd rather play nuts and bolts than odyssey
Samuel Thompson
I still don't know how people don't understand that 3D World is a 2D Mario but in 3D.
Carson Ramirez
good chart, aside from stupidly including banjo on there. this is why I like 64 and sunshine far more than galaxy/2. galaxies are too linear for my tastes
I really like the mission based collectathons in 64 and Sunshine. If Odyssey was that with the new capture mechanic it would've been so much better. The way they had the moons dispersed with quantity over quality didn't feel satisfying at all.
Nathaniel Lopez
Man Smashfags actually are retarded
Colton Hernandez
Masterpiece Garbage Good not not that great Average
Jace Jackson
Holy shit. I've never read something so retarded in my life.
How the fuck do people find games like Odyssey fun? They're literally made for toddlers, have 0 challenge and its basically like being taken to the park as a toddler
This is exactly how I feel about Odyssey as well. Finding moons was like finding Red Coins in 64 or Blue Coins in Sunshine in terms of effort. Main collectables should have more meaning than that. They should be tied to memorable set pieces and missions, not something you just find on a patch of ground.
space station silicon valley is mario odyssey if it was good
Lincoln Edwards
I really feel like the people who highly praise Odyssey are the people who constantly beg for games with open world. I don't really understand why it's such a big deal.
Noah Price
Odyssey isn't open world.
Aiden Barnes
Probably not the right name for it, but you're free to explore each world without anything getting in your way. A lot of people seem to like that.
Jayden Clark
I think it taps into the same excitement when you were a child and saw a jungle gym. Many different things, do it in any order you want.
