Can any game match this atmosphere?
Can any game match this atmosphere?
Deus Ex, Fallout (1), Witcher 1
Haven't played a single game that does but am up for suggestions
Half Life series
Oddword series
Myst/Riven
Outside of that not really. Kingdom Come Deliverance is pretty thick in atmosphere as well though
System Shock 2, Betrayer, Arx Fatalis, Deus Ex
STALKER is god tier though.
Pathologic
Nah
>throwing bolts to try and find a safe path through a bunch of anomalies
>every single gunfight
>hanging out with other stalkers at a fire
Its all so good.
Ive played vanilla Stalker so much, im in the mood for some mods. What are the best mods?
Darkwood?
breath of the wild
>that heart of Oasis artefact hunt in CoP
Try Misery 3.0 for Call of Pripyat and Call of Chernobyl, which is the one I have right now and still play from time to time.
Basically all 3 maps stiched into one with some new quests and stashes
Thief 1 and 2. Arguably 3.
shittery is bad by itself but the derivatives such as Anomaly and Dead air are decent
try new arsenal or olr
>Anomaly and Dead air are decent
I heard that one was good and the other complete dogshit, but can't remember which was which
Red Forest in Clear Sky is one of the highest points in the series. It’s up there with the NPP in SoC
Limansk too
>this faggot AGAIN
people hate on dead air but if you like misery it's exactly the kind of game you'll enjoy. Anomaly has a lot more features and a 64 bit engine but it's easier
>dude stop talking about the games!
Rangeban US and UK
I mean he is a tripfag and wrong about a lot of things but Clear Sky is a real sleeper and Limansk is one of the best maps in the series
Soc>CS>CoP
Prove me wrong
CoP is boring monster hunting with no proper fights
Been playing Metro Exodus and there are times where I get that STALKER feeling for a few seconds, but then it's gone.
I wish it wouldn't play with my feelings like this
Just don't respond to him. He's obnoxious as fuck
Based opinion
CoP has the tunnel to Pripyat fight and the Monolith base, which are pretty good fights and is more stable than CS
this is basically 100% correct
CoP isn't really more stable in terms of real performance it's just that the faction wars in CS are really broken
But those are the only fights in the entire game. The rest of the time you are just hunting for artifacts or killing mutants. In SoC and CS you have a bunch of long-stretched fights and random fights that occur with the A-life
The Monolith base is literally an apartment building. The tunnel to Pripyat is the only good fight. Even the end fight to the helicopters in Pripyat is underwhelming and super short.
Compare that to Clear Sky’s Swamps, restarting coolant generator in Yantar while being surrounded by zombies, and of course Limansk which blows everything else out the water. And of course STALKER isn’t just about the gun battles, but also exploration and subtle moments, which Dark Valley, Agroprom, Red Forest, and other areas also provide. CoP is still good but it doesn’t have as much of a STALKER feel as SoC or CS. It is more like a sandbox game than a roguelike level-based linear progression of the other two games.
And lest we forget, Clear Sky has the hunting shotgun which is arguably the best gun in the STALKER series just from how satisfying it is to use.
half life 2 maybe
>MFW someone says skip clear sky
Deus Ex
VTMB
Outer Wilds
All of the above come pretty close
not op but half life 2 really didn't sell me on the atmosphere, it was a decently fleshed out world but it wasn't really that atmospheric
Also a good way to spot a redditor whose only contact with stalker is 0.3 hours in CoP and 5 hours in CoCk
How is it for a STALKER fan? I just want some comfy atmospheric wasteland exploration with a lot of tension. Does Exodus deliver on that?
autumn auroa
Half Life 2 came before STALKER and really showed the world that rustpunk/slavpunk was a viable artistic style to mass market with. Without it, I don’t think STALKER would’ve gotten made or became as successful as it did.
its even worse if someone tells a new guy to start with CoP
It delivers on that pretty well. What it lacks so far is the variety and scale of STALKER, though, and unlike STALKER it interrupts you to shove story down your throat every few minutes.
Lots of games have this bleak, post-apocalyptic, creepy vibe, but sadly, I doubt normals appreciate unrelenting difficulty anymore.
pathologic
If you're looking for post-apocalypse Russia then the only other game similar is really the Metro series. Play it with Russian voices and subtitles for extra immersion.
If you're looking at trying to survive in a harsh land on your own then lots of the WRPGs mentioned are close
Nope. When you play the map in CoC, it really drives home how much it is just one long corridor that masquerades as a city. Pripyat in both versions is better. Wild Territory is better.
Man, Arx Fatalis is such an off-the-wall game in so many ways. Why don't any other games capture even a similar essence to what it had?
Reminder that you should ignore any retarded neanderthal that uses crosshairs.
It's opinion is invalid.
>when you mod the game to the point that it’s not the same game it really drives home how my opinion is shit
That’s very interesting. Please tell us more, Nigel.
both legend of grimrock
CoC changes NOTHING about the maps itself, fucknuts. Limansk is one long streamlined corridor with ZERO flanking routes. In CS, it's also filled with a lot of scripted shit that makes you busy and prolongs the already tedious experience. Nowhere is it more obvious than in that building in the middle where you have to kill the dug in Spetznas. The whole building is surrounded by a kneehigh fence you can't jump through and have to enter the building to get past.
I would like CS more if it didn't bug out constantly, even with the community patches.
I've never finished it because the game always shits the bed at some point during the main quest
Remember to play E.Y.E.
Mmhhmm very interesting Nigel. Your opinions are so important to me.
>half life series
Not even close faggot.
stay contrarian and mad faggot zoomer
Should I feel bad for savescumming everytime I kill an enemy?
No but be careful you don’t savescum yourself into a corner at the end of Clear Sky. Otherwise you won’t have time to kill Strelok before he runs into the NPP.
