It is no coincidence that the most beta people I know always play support. Unless you're in a game where you can switch roles easily and you go support to compensate for your group being retarded, being a dedicated support player is definitely more beta than DPS or Tank.

Healers are essentially the parent guardian of a group to make sure they don't run off and kill themselves. If subjected to abuse and shit from their party, they will nod in agreement knowing that without their healing to aid the group along, the whole crew will collapse anyway.
