Making fun games again.
make games the public wants
made good games
They dropped Nintendo support.
By making games that people actually wanted instead of outsourcing their properties to cheap western studios
By fucking street fighter in its ass.
They did not
They never did.
Monster Hunter and making games for the western market themselves instead of letting Canadians taint the brands.
$152 million is a lot. I can live a whole life 152 times with that.
They've made some of the best games of the current generation in the last few years.
hope capcom fucking dies and sony buys them
>wiiu low sales
How old is this fucking thing?
>what is inflation
no you can't you faggot
Pretty sure this article was a load of bullshit and the whole "ONLY 152 MILLION IN THE BANK" was taken out of context for something else.
>no date shown
>Wii U
>retards falling for the bait anyway
it is from around 2013 i think
>with ps4 and xbox one releasing
Jesus christ op this shit is from 2013
No they didn't
They just stopped putting in effort
Let me ask this
Why are they, or you, comparing capcom to nintendo?
Nintendo is a company that manifactures games, game consoles, publishes games, sells various merchandise etc. on a global scale
Capcom is just a game publisher and developer, far FAR smaller company than Nintendo
That's like saying "THIS AMERICAN WHITE COLLAR WORKER EARNS $100,000,000 LESS IN A YEAR THAN THIS ARABIAN OIL PRINCE"
He's not claiming it's recent, anime brainlet-kun.
They stopped the trend of having MH subsidize shitty games and started making decent games besides MH again.
it's not bait if the OP is asking how they recovered from it retard
OP is asking how they recovered from it, take off your ironyglasses for a minute, not everything is a meme, I think it was a legitimate question and not a "lol guys capcom is broke right now".
some retarded journo took a random number out of context to make capcom look bad and the resulting meme lasted for years
The answer is they made DMCV
>2013 was 6 fucking years ago
youtube.com
This. This board is legitimately retarded. Not everything is bait.
this poster has the reading comprehension of a goldfish and is smug about it
With help from Tencent. No seriously.
And yet MHGU still walks in circles around Casual Hunter World.
With 152 mil absolutely anyone can you stupid faggot. Especially if you invest it well. Even with inflation, 10 mil is enough for a life time if spent properly.
Jap businessmen are actually fucking retarded. They refuse to make a new Megaman X game or give Megaman a good amount of attention (11 didn't get much advertisement and was just very simple, short game with less content than the PSP games), treat their franchises like shit (Dead Rising 2 and 3, not putting the DR rereleases on Switch), refuse to satisfy fans (Dragon's Dogma), and dump tons of money into the dumpster fire that is SFV.
literally ONE game.
Monster Hunter World.
it is almost like it being stuck on a handheld was holding it back.
Too bad Capcom proceeded to backstab them with World, killing off MHO in process.
Friendly reminder that the last time Capcom actually posted a loss was in 2005
>too bad
based capcom, blowing those faggot chinks out.
monster hunter probably
Guess they shouldn't have rushed DD pushing out an unfinished game then.
Capcom is one of my favorite companies but as a fan of PC + handhelds I really wanted their support to be good. Megaman being the prime example. It's just... The easiest games to port and they still fucked it up
the only retard here is you
>10 mil is enough for a life time
he said 1 mil, that's poverty tier
How the fuck were their software sales below expectations between MonHun, RE2, and DMC5? Were they expecting each one to sell 20 million or some shit?
This was during the WiiU generation user.
make megaman X9 you assholes
how is gs or h in gu?
They technically haven't
They had to do a LOT of exclusivity stuff, jewery and backroom deals to stay alive, and their games were still bombing like motherfuckers, on top of that, the investors were hilariously pissed because Capcom was trying to fish for bigger/more investors by setting unrealistic sale targets, only to fuck it up, because why would RE7 sell 10 millions in the timeframe they promised?
>They got so desperate they dusted off franchises that had been dormant by their own choice just to get money fast and hard like MM11
>They had to resort to releasing games that had been in development for years, secret weapons meant to stave off bankruptcy like REmake 2 and DMCV
>They put practically all their money and manpower towards the AAA development meme for big easy hype bucks
And of course the result of all this hard work has bore poisonous fruit
>DMCV sold "SO WELL" they will not support it anymore despite fan demand being there, also who knows what they had to do to convince Itsuno to do it, he probably managed to squeeze a big expensive AAA Dragon's Dogma 2 out of them
>REmake 2 now places big expectations on a possible REmake 3 AND kills the new direction that they were going for with RE7
>SFV fight money will be a big question in fans' minds when SF6 drops, which means regular DLC will be scrutinized, also their current shit season means angry fans leaving
>MH sequels will now require a lot of work to get made, and the AAA expectations means that they'll have to throw a lot of money to keep things shiny and good marketing rolling, on top of that, who knows what kind of deal Sony managed to get out of them, which might mean less returns on their consumers' platform of choice
Fuck ,their last earning report was basically "our games sold well, but the increase in development costs and new technologies means we still had to sell buildings just to keep profitable so the investors don't riot"
Monster Hunter and RE7
too big not to fall I see
Meh fuck them if they wont give me megaman legends 3 they can die for all I care
>dragon's dogma no caveats
Music glitch, bad performance, online servers broken every so often
Why do you feel the need to lie?
The business side seems to have a harsh future too: They butter up with Sony, piss off Nintendo and barely pay attention to Microsoft
>They fucked their relationship with Nintendo so hard, Nintendo no longer publishes for them in Europe, which is Sony's main money maker and base builder, meaning they now have to personally push their games and brand on the territory they have the most competition with
>Ignore MS for SF6 and the clusterfuck behind Dead Rising 3 and 4 means they no longer get special deals or priority for MS in just about anything, which has the potential to bite them in the ass if MS takes the big lead next-gen, especially because NA is MS main territory
>Cater so much to Sony's demands and fanbase that their development costs are ballooning due to the "graphix+marketing" crowd, which gets them the casuals' limited and fickle attention span but loses them smaller but profitable territories like Japan
>The only reason they can release for Xbox at all is because they can port the game wholesale for both XBox and PS4, so if MS changes architecture in a significant way they'll have to devote resources specifically for their machine, release a shoddy MS version of their stuff or not release at all
>Only reason they bother with the Switch is because it is a big moneymaker for low effort, which they desperately need right now, Swich is the only place where they can sell their catalogue titles to a receptive (portable and new) audience, not devalue their brand (PS+ and GamePass means that in some cases players will NEVER buy their games) AND keep Nintendo and its audience from entirely turning against them
when people says that konami should make a capcom style come back doesn't realise this is what really happens when you make big budget games even when they sell well LMAO
It was an exaggeration for the sake of space, the post was long enough already
The west buys their good games the nihongoes don't.
You have all the space on the internet. Now elaborate without the exaggeration. Just remember that Capcom is a publicly traded company and IR materials are available online for anyone to check.
Capcom is the best dev on the market.
Big budget AAA games only work when you have enough cost-saving measures in place (I.E Nintendo) or are such a big company that a couple flops won't hurt until you find the next big money maker (Activision/Blizzard for this example)
Capcom's not sunk or anything, but they ARE in a tightrope situation, their watches ain't that big so if one or two if the big AAA projects REALLY miss expectations expect big pains
By making the games most people have been asking for for years
Imagine if Game Freak could manage the same just once
They didn't.
They, like every other non Nintendo entity, is suffering severely behind the scenes. Those high end visuals on the best hardware? Yeah, that costs a lot of money. And most games don't even come close to breaking even.
Monster Hunter World sold more than every Nintendo Monster Hunter in Japan, the image you posted isn't even an argument in your favour.
Make good fucking games for once.
Zoomer opinion. They're have like one bad generation and crushed the rest starting with the NES.
That one and a half bad generations was really fucking awful though.
>1 million is poverty tier
What a fucking ridiculous statement
capcom is just not as big as you think. actually it reveals the reality that nintendo >>>>>>>>>>> crapcom.
Very carefully.
I mean, outside of the little jab at the end, nothing said was wrong
SFV and RE7 missed expectations big time in their release years
MVCI left a crater in how shit it was for the the company's pockets and their image
DMCV, despite popularity and fan demand will get nothing new (and if they think they can repeat a DMC3 SE in this time and age of DLC and patches they're more retarded than initially thought)
MHW released to thunderous applause mostly due to hype, but this places a big wrench in Capcom's regular MH strategy (main game>expansion>side series>reuse models for next main game) which was the real money maker (not in sales but in how cheap it was to build the next 2million+ seller)
DMCV and REmake 2 were projects that people wanted for years, and they took a while to be completed, they are now expecting followups, but they want those followups fast, so Capcom has to choose to please fans now and deliver a potentially shoddy product or make those games the best they can be and risk losing those people to the big next gen hype machine
That's why the 'technically' was at the beginning, they have more cash on hand, but AAA development is much more expensive and risky, they no longer have projects that people REALLY wanted on their development pipe (mainly because they already released what people really wanted)
They have only a couple of things they could quickly release outside of catalog stuff but none of them is a big seller
>MML 3 and MMX 9 aren't that big
>SF6 and a new Darkstalkers are fighting games which don't make a ton of money
Their only possibly 'big' products could be a new Dragon's Dogma, a new Dead Rising or anew MVC, and while they could hype them up none of those has the dedicated fanbase of DMC or the sheer numbers of RE
Only because they had set their bar so high. Most companies put out trash all the time.
Sony always wins baby.
They release games
But they're being lazy as fuck and with the exception of megaman 11 and dragon's dogma most of it are shit overpriced ports and for some reason they expect them to sell like hot cakes
Ironic coming from te cucks who made the switch have 4gb ram because they specifically requested it, it seems it was just to dump shit more easily
They never recovered
Sooner or later they'll be bought by Microsoft
By cutting corners.
Read their latest financial report. Highlight the lines relevant to your post and post the screenshot here.
They can recover by making more ports starting with power stone
They put their faith in best boy Itsuno. Unfortunately it seems like Capcom is on the downward arc of their usual "fuck up - make fun shit - get cocky and fuck up some more" cycle.
1 and 0 are being sold physically though
Again, nothing said was wrong
See if you understand
More Cash on hand (currently)
Not a big enough warchest to weather bad times
AAA development is more expensive
New console generation coming
More expenses coming
Generating profit is riskier
No real hypemaker OR moneymaker in the horizon outside of an expansion
All of those factors mean Capcom is not in an ideal position to keep going as they have
There you go
Why can't we have another Breath of Fire? I don't mind it being a low budget digital only game.
MHW, DMC5 & RE2, basically.
still better than capcom's wii support
Monster Hunter 4
people are mad about the price which is understandable but ultra street fighter 2 is the best version of that game.
And yet Capcom was basically the only third party that gave the Wii the time of day more than once...
>how did capcom recover from this ?
Like this.
>giving a shit abot tencent
Shut up faggot nigger
>All of those factors mean Capcom is not in an ideal position to keep going as they have
capcom.co.jp
Read page 5 to 11
Not the guy you're arguing with, how old are you what is your education and qualifications?
Capcom actually made new games for the Wii like Zach & Wiki, MHTri, or TvC. Switch has Mega Man 11 and nothing else but decade+ old multiplat ports.
>I don't think about you at all
>Posting the image every capcom thread
I think you misunderstand what I'm getting at
I didn't say they had no money, or that they weren't making money
They want to follow AAA trends, which is more expensive than AA development or porting their catalogue, which is what they did alongside their big games (they'll keep bringing catalog games sure, but that does have its limits in the cash it brings)
Their product pipeline for the future is currently empty or barely notable as I mentioned
And a new gen is coming which means FURTHER increased costs if they want to be there in a timely manner
They don't have enough bank to survive a big fuckup unscathed
In my original post I talked about their FUTURE projects, they have money now, but following the 'muh graphics muh presentation' trends set by MS and Sony is not a cheap thing to do
For example, PS2 had Sony on top of the world, PS3 lost them a comical amount of money
If Capcom repeats the mess that was RE7/SFV/MVCI without a 10+million seller like MHW to bail them what do you think happens? Especially with the increased costs of AAA development?
Stop shitposting for a second. Capcom will ALWAYS have someone fitting the bill for them.
What year did RE7/SFV/MVCI come out?
Nintendo is strange in that, regardless of what people think about their quality, their identity is formed around cost-cutting measures and they still get AAA sales
They are pretty efficient at saving Money l: BOTW was the most expensive game they ever made, and it recouped the entirety of its development cost at 2 million sold, everything after that was pure gravy
Pretty based desu
outsourced sfv and released sf4 again
Not that guy but no one was happy with capcom during 2016/2017 desu
don't you have an EGS shill thread to be making chink nigger?
The numbers show otherwise. There's some people who aren't happy with Capcom now in this thread.
Did they even release a original game on the Switch? Even the monster hunter for switch is a 3DS port.
The Infafune poison was drained.
Why should it? PS4 didn't get any exclusives.
They're both fun.
Numbers show they made money
However, they hadn't entirely shifted gears to their AAA strategy, during the RE7/SFV/MVCI time period meaning smaller losses for those particular missed expectations
The switch also made them a nice sum off their releases (new audience and all) but betting it all on inflated development cost during the dawn of a new generation does not come without risks
What games are you talking about?
Wii had trii and the resident evil on rail games, the second one looked fantastic. And had TvC, one of the best fighting games they made that generation.
Well this explains why all their switch stuff is zero effort I guess, they don't have they money to put any effort in
You're really really stupid.
When RE7 had only sold 2 million copies, Capcom literally announced that it already turned a profit. Meaning missed targets don't actually indicate losses. And it's pretty likely that none of the games they make are as expensive or risky as retards on this site think they are.
stop giving (you)s to obvious bait
>article published a year after RE6
I still think it was made a clusterfuck on purpose to sabotage capcom
Correction: The games they MADE weren't as expensive
It was after RE7 that Capcon decided to shift gears to more expensive venues (they said they wanted 3 big games each fiscal year) and they are the ones that want to compete against AAA releases
Their catalog and smaller releases sell well, but if they want to go down that expensive path, especially in the dawn of a new generation of consoles, where consumer expectations, playerbase, and technologies all start shifting towards the unknown means Big Bucks and Big Gambles both need to be made
So they either keep to a big bombastic release schedule or those big releases aren't actually that big and if so, why toot their own horn in the first place?
Maybe if they didn't just keep rerererereleasing ports every month
Literally all of the games you've mentioned were in development at the same time. There is no evidence of this supposed gear shift to more expensive venues, let alone actual numbers to back it up, so just stop talking out of your ass about things that haven't even happened yet dumbass.
>No evidence
>More marketing expenses
>No longer funding smaller titles properly
>New gen right around the corner
>"We want to release 3 big games per fiscal year"
>'We believe that Capcom must win out against publishers on the global stage, such as those in the U.S. and Europe, in order to grow in the medium- to long-term"
???
>only
Obviously Capcom's missed targets meant nothing, almost every new game they released had retarded expectations
It only pissed their investors off lol
Pretty sure even when this was first posted, that it was essentially yellow journalism and not at all accurate.
My guess is because they are only focusing on big franchises now.
This. It's why since they got back into the fighting game genre with SF4, all they've made is more Street Fighter and more crossovers. Unlike the 90s when they made all sorts of different fighters.
2013 news
hmm
by nintendo enthusiast
They know what they need to give us
Generations Ultimate actually did really good state side.
Capcom released two big games this year that were developed alongside RE7, a big game that you just said signified some kind of shift from modest budget to high budget titles. I won't count Iceborne as the third even though MHW was also in development at that time. So for reasons that you can't back up with actual data, RE7 had a modest budget (confirmed profitable with 2 million sales at most) but games like REmake 2, DMC5, and hypothetical next gen titles are totally different.
>b-but marketing
>b-but muh switch
>b-but next gen
not seeing a whole lot of numbers here, sadly
