trying to play through every mainline and maybe some notable side releases too, which ones should i be looking forward to the most? and which one was the most fun in your opinion? pic related
>barely started 5
>just got to costa del sol in 7
>will buy 8 but dont know which port is good
>9 for ps4
>10 for ps4
>idk if 11 is completely dead
>zodiac age
>unsure about 13
>want 14
>tried tactics, want to try again maybe
FUN final fantasy games
I love tactics but I realize that it gets tedious at times. 9 is my favorite, 10 is great, 6 is amazing, 4 is fun.
whoops, forgot to add
>type 0
to the list
>>will buy 8 but dont know which port is good
the upcoming port might be the best if you like the generic looking models, otherwise PC with mods. there's no notable improvement mod though other than the music fixer.
for ps4
PC for 9, the Moguri mod is fantastic.
for ps4
Do NOT play the HD remake of this game, it's inferior to the PS2 version. Get PS2/International and play it on a PS2 or on the PS2 emulator
>>idk if 11 is completely dead
me neither
>>zodiac age
PC version is 60fps, I think the Xbone X version is as well, but the PC version has better visuals and mods to fix some issues like the game having a fuckton of blur and letterboxes during cutscenes
>>unsure about 13
skip it, otherwise PC
>>want 14
skip it as well, otherwise PC
>>tried tactics, want to try again maybe
Tactics is great, emulate it on PPSSPP with the slowdown fix.
You can get a 60fps patch if you emulate it on PPSSPP and the art style is consistent, but the PC version was also decent I think aside from it being locked at 30fps. graphics aren't as consistent so it might look weird.
>5
Passable imo
>7
God tier, a staple of JRPGS. PS1/PC port is fine
>8
Passable imo
>9
never played
>10
PS2 version is different from the HD remake, it comes down to preference but a lot of people say ps2>pc
>11
pass, not worth the grind when xiv is hot
>13
big pass, you already have a lot of hours ahead of you. skip this one
>14
superkino. great game, pretty much WoW 2.0 with better graphics, story, mechanics, etc.
>tactics
idk never played either
Good luck OP
You actually liked FF3? I kinda felt like going back and playing the originals too so I started with FF1 and by the time it was over I was suffering so I skipped 2 cause it looked even more obnoxious. 3, I enjoyed for a little bit but then I realized that every single boss in the game is the same thing. The exact same thing.
Starts off slow, you do a little bit of damage in the first 2 rounds then they all pull out a full party attack that instakills at least one party member and then you kill it on the next turn with the surviving members. Not a single half decent boss and random encounters that offer no challenge whatsoever which is normal for FF I suppose.
Not really sure I want to go on and play 4,5,6 at the moment.
4,6,7,10, Tactics were the strongest imo but I'm pretty basic bitch. 8 and 9 have huge cult followings but are wierd and different.
5 is by far the best gameplay and cast wise.
rest are good if you are a fun, some are hard to appreciate
go back to deaddit
oh yeah 9 is pretty good too, it's the creators favorite i think. tactics are good but different games
3 is fun. 5 is basically the better version though, and one of the best games in the series
I didn’t find this to be the experience on the DS version at all.
only actual ff fan. the rest are nostalgia fags
most fun for me were V, VI and IX. lighthearted, good battle systems and some humor. would advise you to get pc port for IX, you can use the memoria mod to make the battle swirl animation faster and bump up battle fps to 22 (battle animations are tied to framerate, 60fps means animations are 4 times as fast).
FFIII is also good, but I prefer the nes version over the ds/psp/pc/mobile versions. only good remake FF is FFIV on ds
5 has the best gameplay of the original series, 6 introduces large cast parties. Play those 2 if you are a fan of turn based gameplay, the earlier FFs don't hold up as well but imo ff3 is better than you say
DS version is identical to the psp version no? That's the one I played and I've seen many people online share my opinion. I mean level checks every now and then are fine but you can't just make everything a level check that ends in 5 turns. Hell even the hidden summon bosses are like that, it's ridiculous.
4, 5, 6, 7, 9 are my must play reccs.
4 is where the series really grew into it's own, and it's an amazing game. Play the PSP 2d remaster, or the DS 3d remake, your choice. Avoid the after years.
If you like 5, go for 3 with the maeson rom hack patch, and maybe an updated version of 1, either on your phone casually or the ps1 version. It's a very light recommendation if you want to play 1, but I really love 3 and the aesthetic. Also 10-2 if you finish 10 and like it enough.
If you love 6 or 9, then 10 is definitely worth checking out. You may not like the linearity or the combat/leveling, but it's a good departure from aesthetic of 6 and 9 while retaining the feelings of the stories. Play 6 on gba emu with sound fixes. 9 is okay on any platform except for switch, I think it has issues? Might be thinking of some other console. 10 is of course on the remaster, any version of that is fine.
7 is best on the pc steam version, but you should go through the hoops to update the graphics through modding. Search up seventh heaven installer. As well, the A new Threat mod is highly recommended, as it'll make characters much more unique compared to the original. It might seem like I'm bitching about one of the most influential RPGs ever made, but the game has aged like milk in terms of graphics. This will atleast keep you engaged enough to keep play.
12 is where combat becomes more action based, and if you like it, consider ff14. 12 is best with the remaster, on the pc for better frame rate.
13 is a black sheep, but I liked it and I think you should atleast see what it's like. Yes, the story is heavily convoluted starting out, the game is just a corridor until 75% in, but I really like the characters and setting. 13-2 was okay, I haven't played 13-3 but I heard it's bad.
I've never played 8, 2 is shit, 11 is dead, and I haven't even touched 15.
IZJS is arguably better than Zodiac Age if you emulate it. Same content but better visuals. Worse frame rate though.
7 and 9 are still my favorites of the classics. They flow nicely, and the worlds are fascinating. Great OSTs and atmosphere.
Type0 was a huge positive surprise, that is fun AF to play. Love how it's practically a love-letter to the whole series, with its entire world and cast being practically throwbacks to back titles.
That being said, just play them all on PC.
OP here, i got most of these games for ps4, are the ports really that bad? should i just ditch em at this point and get the ones people suggested instead
>5 is by far the best gameplay and cast wise.
why do people say that?
V is easily amongst my very LEAST favorite FF games of all times. I'd rank it right there with 2, 8 and 12 as the ones I'd skip. MMOs are not even worth mentioning.
The DS remakes are just trash that add tons of filler.
Definitely a preference for either. I like the port for dual jobs, but yeah.
Did you not play it or something? That's just so wrong
Most of them are fine. It's just some have better versions on others. It's mostly the mobile ports that are truly terrible. ff7 mobile is unplayable.
Man I love 3. One of the best feeling of adventure in jrpg imo enhanced by the dreamlike fantasy atmosphere. Also such an underrated ost

comparing FFV to FFII gameplay wise is complete retardation
3, 5, WoFF and 4 Heroes of Light are fun FF games. Chocobo Dungeon, too, but that is entirely different genre.
Tactics for PS1 is really good, but it is not fun.
XIII trilogy is not that bad as people say. But if you want to skip it, at least download soundtracks for all 3 games.

And many others. I could go on all day
>Did you not play it or something?
I played it years ago already. Never finished it.
I hate the job systems, the cast and story didn't catch my interest at all, and it just felt bland.
Meanwhile, the (original) FFIV captured me from the very first moment.
I was not comparing gameplay at all. They're just both shit, just in different ways.
