I've only played original mario parties on emulator and ds/3ds, is it fun with friends who kinda like board games but get bored with ones that are too long?
Is this game worth it?
bump
It's a massive improvement over all the other slop ND Cube's made for the Mario Party series, but that's still not saying much because it's still pretty lacking.
it's good but unbalanced. if you play it i recommend banning buying the golden pipes.
What exactly is lacking? I heard there's like 1 board or something. Is online still up?
Only 4 boards, and online is a complete joke, since it's only a pitifully small collection of minigames with the signature shit-tier Nintendo netcode.
It’s only good for the minigames, theres like 3 boards and while they follow the traditional mario party ruleset, theyre tiny as fuck and not much goes on in them
>fun with friends
Definitely, and the games can be pretty short too. The different game modes help spice things up too. I know that I love the rhythm one.
It’s the best Mario Party we have had in years but that’s mostly because the last few had everybody going round in a car together and were completely awful. Super Mario Party only has 4 boards and they are all pretty small. In addition the golden pipe and allies kinda break the game. Personally I was really excited when it originally released because it felt like a return to form. At this point though I can’t see myself ever playing it again. I would just go back to one of the N64 or GameCube Mario Party games instead. Of course if you don’t have those and you do have a Switch then it’s your only option. Also if you’ve never played Mario Party before you’ll probably enjoy it because you won’t know how much better the old games are.
I've played the original ones and gamecube on emulator, but skipped wii ones even though i only had wii and chinese nes as nintendo home consoles. Are wii ones good?
What mario party has the most boards?
Mario Party 8 is the only "good" Wii Mario Party game, and even then it's 50/50 where you either love it or hate it. 4-6 are probably some of the best in the series.
The majority of the Mario Party games have 6 boards. Mario Party 5 has 7 boards which I think is the most but I could be wrong. For the Wii games Mario Party 8 is good but as you can probably guess the mini games have motion controls so your enjoyment will depend on how you feel about that. After Mario Party 8 they introduced the awful car mechanic which ruined every new game until just recently when Super Mario Party went back to the old style.
Super Mario Party is a big improvement over 9, 10, and the 2 3DS games that aren't Top 100, but it's still not great for a Mario Party game. There's only 4 boards, normal movement dice cut from 10 in earlier games to 6, pace slowed from explanation and "cinematics" every single turn, to the point that a 20 turn game takes an hour and a half or more. For reference, a 20 turn game in Mario Party 3 takes maybe half as long.
Its biggest saving grace is the consistently good crop of minigames, plus the fact that the practice mode for minigames is built into the explanation screen. I'd kill to have that in older games.
There was hope of free updates after what people saw happen with Mario Tennis Aces and Splatoon 2, but so far (9 months after launch) it's been complete silence on any updates to add more boards or characters or mini games. They just swept it under the rug. Rumor has it that the entire game was intended to revolve around the new Partner Party mode, which is why every board is grid-shaped, but then normal Mario Party mode was added to appease Westerners.
Fuck, now i don't know which one to get. Maybe just play old ones on wii?
It’s fun, but it could use more boards
AND FUCKING ONLINE, FUCK YOU NINTENDO
Items/stars are way too cheap and someone usually gets a warp pipe every other turn or so, but I’ve always had fun playing it
I dont have friends though, so it’s just gathering dust
it's one of the best mario parties, so yes.
Done right with a little homebrew, the Wii can play every Mario Party game up to 8, and all for less than what it would cost you to buy Super. I recommend it.
Keep in mind future potential buyers, it wont work on the Switch Lite and the devs have abandoned it so don't expect Updates.
>wont work
It will, you'll just have to buy Joy Cons. The Switch Lite still supports connecting them. Still, I don't see why you would want to, given the lack of a kickstand or dock compatibility.
I thought the switch light doesn't support table-top mode only handheld.
That, and the newer Switch release has a more powerful battery than the early release.
