Damn this truly raped inafune.

What a cool game.

Didn't it flop? I didn't play it.

Capcom is reportedly very, very happy with the success of it. It didn't outsell every other game released in the year combined, but it had a modest profit and it was clearly a game made on a modest budget as well.
Plus on its own it's just a really, really damn good Mega Man game. Somebody at the company definitely knew what they were doing with this project.

Capcom says it met expectations, that should be enough for another. Also give the game a shot. The last two stages are stupidly short, but the rest of the game is solid.

Really wish it had proto/bass playable, otherwise there isn't much to go back to.
On the other hand, easily the best set of weapons in the series. This is the game that made me go back to the older games and actually use their weapons.

Capcom has been doing great since that hack left, he's the reason they tried all that seppo shit like Bionic Commando on 360 and the new DMC

wasn't the same without inafucking

No point in Proto Man anymore. Mega Man took back everything that made him stand out. Unless you really like the shield that much.

Fair.
The shield was cool, maybe give him a third charge for his buster to represent his big bang flash whatever from &bass.
Shield + 1 more charge level would be fun to mess with

800,000+ copies sold or something

Mega Man already has a third charge level with the Power Gear.

Mega Man hasn't though. Its been like ten years since the last time we had a Mega Man game that wasn't from the classic series and I remain in perpetual doubt that we'll ever see one again. Twitter artwork postings are not game announcements.

Ok but *without* the time limit that the power gear has

Classic works and it's the safest option. I honestly can't blame Capcom.

Just beat the game and buy the super gear thing or whatever that lets you use both gears infinitely.

MM11 was pure sex

You can't really modernize RockMan, honestly these "budget" titles that stick to the classic gameplay is what's best, you can't turn him into a Triple A series.

Please let me have this proto idea :(

I mean, yeah, I agree, but I think it's gotten them in a kafka trap that they don't really need to be in. If they want to bank on classic, it means they have to bring their A game to every single title so as not to tarnish classic's beautiful legacy of having no bad games whatsoever. If they were to do something like an X game, though, people's expectations would probably be rock bottom since the X series has arguably had more bad games than good ones and its been like 15 years regardless. Anything at least halfway decent would probably generate a lot of buzz and sell surprisingly well, given that

Honestly at this point I'm pretty sure the mythology of Mega Man outweights any concern about whether this or that subseries has had more good or bad games. As long as they don't shoot to the moon and try to turn Mega Man into a blockbuster hit it'd be really hard for them to fail, be it Classic, X, or even maybe ZX. Though we're probably never getting a ZX conclusion, realistically speaking.

Thing is, I don't think they really want to just phone an X game in, but a big problem with X, largely thanks to its varying degrees of quality, is that it's not as easy to pin-point what people really like about the series in the first place, gameplay-wise. With classic, it's easy. Play through all the games, look up internet opinions and criticisms of all the games and compare and contrast with your own thoughts. Because no classic series game is truly bad, but there are also some games which are outright considered better than others, it's very easy to figure out people value most about these games.

But X is different. You have differing opinions as to which game is the best. You have people saying X3 is shit while others say it's great. You have people saying X5 is amazing, while others criticize it heavily. Some people think X1 is better than X2, others think vice versa. There are people who think X8 is a solid return to form, while others think that it's mediocre at best. On top of that, the X series is bloated with a ton of baggage, particularly in regards to characters. I mean, really, three navigators? The games aren't so complicated that you need THREE SEPARATE optional hint box generators. Seriously, it's a fucking side scroller. How many other side scrollers have you played that have a character set aside purely to tell you how to play the goddamn game? Even in the entire franchise, it's pretty much alone here. Classic doesn't have it, Zero doesn't have it, ZX doesn't have it. Only X. That's just one example of the sheer amount of excess fat that the X series has. I know people like Alia, but just have her as R&D. She doesn't need to tell you how to fucking play the game. I hate to quote Egoraptor but it's a game where you literally run, jump and shoot.

I love X3 for all the secrets it has, and consider X4 a letdown on it because it traded all those unlockable items for shiny 3D graphics. My perfect X game would definitely involve lots of different secrets and armor upgrades, and also a villain that's not stupid Sigma.
That said, the navigator problem is no big deal I think, if the game is going to have multiple characters, which actually to be honest I'm not 100% certain if it should or not, just give one to each character and make them banter in the level select screen.
Or just quietly sweep them under the hug, like Cain, Signas and Dynamo

Do we know how much budget 11 has? MN9 has 2.2 mil iirc and we all know how shit it turnt out

By this point, you can't really get rid of Zero. His absence would actually negatively affect sales. I think you could cut Axl out, though. Sure, he has his fans, but he doesn't really benefit from traditional X series level structure.

no idea but if it was more, i doubt it'd be by much.
