raid rewards are locked weekly to your character so you can raid more with multiple characters so there is A benefit even if it isn't much.

In 3-4 months we have ultimate, the first eureka 2.0 tier, a new extreme primal and a possible BLU unlock. That's a fuckton of new content to do in 6 months. Sure if you're going to poopsock raids and clear it in a week it's boring af but if you're a midcore or even casual player this content will stretch you for a long time, mainly if you intend to pug your raiding.

Swiftcast on RDM lets you either Swiftcast Veraero/thunder for free damage and mana, or Swiftcast a spell during a period of movement longer than what dualcast covers.

Nobody excluded WHM from groups other than speedkill groups and nobody who is doing speedkills would want to play WHM even if it had parity with the other two jobs (which it basically did, it just didn't contribute to rDPS which is irrelevant in PUGs)

The best caster for prog is one that can flex and play any job in the role effectively because you might need more DPS or raises depending on the fight.

AST and SCH were in good spots at the end of SB and fucked over the coals for no reason. Now SCH offense is one button. Now AST no longer has celestial opposition extensions or even the stun, no longer has time dilation, the cards aren't fun and you're going to be sitting on your ass for 3 minutes using minor arcana every time because between sleeve draw and 3 redraw stacks, you can get every seal in ~10 seconds and divination has a 180 second cooldown for no fucking reason. AST needs buffs out the ass.SCH just needs changes to make it more fun, but it doesn't actually need to be buffed because it has good heal throughput.

Hit up Heavensward as Dragoon you get a good amount of flavor text and it's thematically the most important possible job to the expac and then once you hit Stormblood go through it as SAM. Legit you can skip Monk, none of the Ala Mhigan portion of the expac refers to it at all, even the Hingan/Doman portion of Stormblood almost never refers to your being a Samurai.

The deal with Red Mage is this:

1. Versatility early on, can cover what is needed as situations arise.
2. Great Abilities and Skills for Cross-Classing, betweed Red Magic usually still having utility spells and Cheap ones (because they are Low Level) to help something like Summoner that generally only have Hard hitting and expensive magic, and that is not getting started on Dual-Cast.

But generally they are supplementary, you put the skills they learn on something "better", as for XIV, the answer is quite simply "Muh DEEPS", Master of None hits them hard since they lack as much due their "Utility", but the other "Utility" classes do the Utility better too.

As a Solo Content class it is supposedly rather competent though. plenty of toys to help with mechanics when soloing old fights and such.

Depends on what you define as "utility", most MUH DEEPS types of player refusing to acknowledge Red Mage's utility is excellent because it's not related to boosting other players' damage. Red Mage shines as a supporter since it's still a cross between Black Mage and White Mage, with its utility falling under White Mage. It can heal and revive, and to that end it's a hell of a lot better than Summoner and its carryover res and Physick.

It's excellent as a soloer for old content like you mention, since it can DPS and heal itself. Often it was as competent as the tanks at staying alive, when I went through old Heavensward dungeons solo, trading defense for attack-power.

I'm still playing SCH. The healing role is kind of fucked right now, I'm not expecting it to stand when savage releases. It's like pre-Omega Stormblood where double PLD was the best tank comp, it's going to change.

You'd be surprised how many parties are walled off by DPS requirements rather than mechanics. A good BLM can carry a party's DPS over thresholds and be the sole reason they win.
