it's an old school RPG. If you can handle it play the unreleased NES game. If you want pacing similar to the sequels play GBA instead, or the easy mode patch floating around on romhacking.

I played Earthbound for the first time a month ago.
The best thing about the game, it doesn’t really tell you where to go. It’s tells you to find 8 things and that’s it. You have to basically interact with everything and everyone. I had to log some stuff in a notepad to remember where the fuck to go.
