Neoquest I & II, I guess. It was a silly little RPG, but I remember being absolutely amazed by it when I was a preteen. It was an RPG that you could play on the internet for free, the concept of that blew my head away back then.

playing all those games on my shitty old IBM was fantastic
was able to break into the zurro ball high scores because it ran at 5 fps

I could never get used to the input lag caused by the poor performance. I was fine playing it at full speed and could get to pretty high levels because I was really good at Snake as a kid, but slowing it down and adding input lag fucked me up hard.

The Ice Fairy really did it for me.... And still does I might add.

What daily stuff did you spend your neopoints on? Brain Tree, Esophagor, Jhudora's Bluff, Kitchen Quests, Illusen's Glade, any of the Wheels, etc?

I became the master at getting gold trophies for jhudora and illusen quests. kitchen quests sometimes were worth it because they could give a stat increase to your pet.

Glad I wasn't the only one. My pets lived off those things.

there was no official way to do it and it was technically against the rules, but a lot people did it anyway. was kinda sketchy though because you had to do it through the pound and be ready to snipe the pet as soon as the seller abandoned it, so you could get screwed over if someone clicks faster than you or if the seller decides to be a dickhead and not keep their word.

also i know the one dragon pet could be bought or sold since it hatched from an egg, which was just like any other item. don't know about krawks.

You could always just make a Flotsam, dude. Jetsams were LE along with Tonu, Cybunny, Chomby, Hissi, Poogle, Koi, Lutari, Kiko, and a handful of other pets I'm forgetting.

Objectively it's the Kacheek. It has a species healer meaning you don't have to spend 5 million NP to heal more than 60 HP, which makes it a great choice for the battledome. It also is bipedal and is available on almost every color, which is great for the people who dress up their pets.

It was going strong in the mid 2000s and was owned by Viacom, there's no reason they couldn't have pivoted to a TV show to get more cash flow going. They had tons of merch but a lot of it shelfwarmed pretty hard because they weren't attracting enough new players

Neopets thrived not because it was a pet simulator necessarily but because it was an expansive world that they put so much love and creativity into and there was so fucking much to do. Your pet’s pets could have pets, you could take part in mass intricate plots with puzzles and battles and a comic story that updated along with them, you could make a house, guild, shop. It didn’t do everything great but damn if it didn’t let you do everything.

Honestly no game has filled the whole neopets left and it wouldn’t be that impossible for a gaming company to do. But the problem is it will only work if enough love and time are put into it and most companies want to go for minimal effort.

The site still exists. It just needs to be redone. Flash is dead and the website is tied together with spaghetti instead of stable coding desu. Also it needs a fuck ton of artists; half the art hasn't been touched since 2006 and it doesn't mesh well with the intricate flash maps they have for worlds like Faerieland and Tyrannia.

Also a lot of content has been abandoned. Like those tough Lenny Conundrum puzzles? Dead. Random Contests are dead. Keyquest is dead. Habitarium is dead. Petpet Park is dead. Battledome hasn't been looked at for close to seven years now and it needs readjusting. Defenders of Neopia still doesn't work.

It doesn't need to be rebuilt from the ground up or anything but it needs lots of TLC, but it honestly isn't going to get that since Viacom sold it to the infinitely less capable and less wealthy JumpStart.
