Better versions of consoles always come out. Nintendo did this with every single one of it's handhelds. Sony does it, Microsoft does it and Nintendo does it. The earliest version of a console is bound to come with quinks that get ironed out later on. This. battery life is so shaky on the switch anyway. It's rated for 6 hours or so for the normal one, but anything worth playing drains the battery in like 2 or 3. I personally have mine docked most of the time anyway.

the original DS is unironically the best version of it. It has the best D-pad and, in fact, one of the best d-pads of any handheld or controller ever. It's tactile and clicky, I fucking love it.

Softmodding restores that functionality. While there isn't a slot for the carts, it's 100% accurate to the GBA still, as DS games could use the GBA hardware inside.

Most consoles have multiple revisions and some are better than others.

They're refreshing the original Nintendo Switch. The original model's processor, the Nvidia Tegra X1, was manufactured on a 20nm process node. It will never be fixed because the drift issue is pretty much a universal issue across all consoles. Using any suggested fixes would either cause a significant jump in prices or cause more headache down the line.
