I spent about 100$ in games a month, this gets me about 3-6 games depending on price points. I also pirate about 40 other titles on average.
All of them mostly indie games. If I love a game I'll buy it after a playthrough, doesn't happen very often.
However what happens very often is pirating a game, liking a game enough to start following the devs and then buying the sequel which is now one of the main reasons why I'm spending this amount of cash monthly on games.
No one actually hates piracy, it's literally nothing but trolls and bait posts.
I pirate what I want and buy what I want. There's no fancy justification. When it's safe enough piracy is free. I ain't give a fuck for supporting or hurting devs
