I hate this art style

The new 2D Mario platformers are fun but I can't get over how awful the art style and music is. When will Nintendo realize their mistake? The colors need to be darker and the music needs to be less light. I hope they fix it and release a new one on the switch. Only good 1st party platformer right now is a 7 year old Wii U port.

Sorry to be such a faggot but I just want to play something aesthetic and fun.

no offense but shut the fuck up shut the god damn fuck up jesus fucking christ do you think any of us care? do you think it even fucking matters? a few pixels aren't dark enough for you who fucking cares. wanna go back to the atari days? just have no graphics? you entitled little shit? graphics are not above gameplay. if youre going to complain about something complain about how much the actual gameplay sucks which it does

This is a video game discussion board you teenage sperg

I never realized just how awful NSMB is until I saw it next to 3D World in Mario Maker.

Shit series. They need to come out with a more serious title than *new*

Either make Mario Land 4 or continue the Wario Land series.

bigly

I'm just tired of how generic and predictable Mario has become. The same green plains, the same generic Toads, the same Peach castle, the same goombas and koopas and Bowser. over and over and over again.

Attached: 1553111996601.jpg (540x399, 92K)

It seems they are trying to fix that after Mario Odyssey. Hell even Super Mario Maker 2's story mode while still has everything you mentioned actually went out of its way to give characters actual personality.

Looks like the same old Mario we've had for decades.

this unironically

'New' Super Mario Bros hasn't been new since 2006. Nintendo needs to stop making Mario platformers and calling the NEW. Just take off the new now. We have all seen the new style for a decade and a half now.

I feel like it looked fine on the original DS but doesnt translate well into wii+. 3D World was nice

mario maker has a story in it?

its more story mode as in a set of 100 levels provided by nintendo

>Hell even Super Mario Maker 2's story mode while still has everything you mentioned actually went out of its way to give characters actual personality.
It's just a bunch of Toads in a generic green plain building another generic Peach castle. The only decent characters are the weird minimalist Mario Paint/Maker originals.

The thing mario odyssey suffers from gameplay stagnation.

In mario 64 all you need to do is use a wall to jump off of it. They could of expanded upon this completely.

INSTEAD now we have a hat that can control one thing at a time not allowing for the same great build up great jumping games have.

What arw they going to do?
Makw mario split completely or control 3 different sets of enemies.

They already made their peak with this game.

It's the very definition of soul vs soulless

Interesting.

I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

Really, Mario 3 and World were full of imagination, items to get, things to do, and interactions to have with items and the environment. New Super Mario Bros. 1 was okay in that it felt like an extension of Super Mario Bros. 1, but when the series never became anything more than that, it was a huge disappointment.

100 Levels to collect all the coins in so you can rebuild the castle and unlock things.

Basically the story is Mario and Toads are being dipshits and blow up Peach's castle so they have to rebuild it with the coins they collect.
What are you even talking about? All the 3D mainline titles play differently, the chances of the hat even coming back are slim. Hell we could easily get Super Mario Sunshine Odyssey: Galaxy Edition.

I don't have a problem with the graphics but the music gets worse and worse just fucking compare the ds version to wiiu

As a nintendo fan since the nes. I liked mario up to sunshine

Galaxy was ok.

I feel like the game becomes less of a focus with gameplay on the backburner and i dislike the aestherics of all the games mid 2000s.

I wish we had a legit mario 64 sequel with 2019 graphics. Same style music aesthetics.

I had another wild idea where there would be 50vs50 mario 64 with a huge level.

4 classes
Brusier who gets weapons or mario related weapons like fireball.
Goal is to attack players to stop tjem from progressing.

Builders
Self explanatory

Farmers

And platformers.

The end of the level becomes so precise that you have to use multiple people to platform off of or use help.

Have a town in the middle with a small hill with enemies. Shop and buffs in town

Enemies around maps drop coins and rare pickups.
Kill other player possibility for their pickup.

Bad pasta
fpwp

How easy it was to improve on gameplay in mario 64 was platforms.

You can add 1000 platforms and it give mario a huge long marathon of jumps.

Where mario odyssey.
Are we going to have 1000 hats or 1000 enemies.

THE GAME IS STAGNANT CUZ YOUR ONLY ALLOWED TO DO ONE THING AT A TIME

Both gameplay and graphics suck. How does donkey kong country look better than modern donkey kong and play better as well?

I'd think taking a style and concepts after Super Mario Osydeey would be a great natural evolution for the 2D series. And maybe give a greater focus on differnet playstyles of each character, instead of making them literal Mario clones with slightly different psychics. That kind of a step for the next game would really spice things up a lot more.

>INSTEAD now we have a hat that can control one thing at a time not allowing for the same great build up great jumping games have.
Have you even played the game? The hat can be used as an additional platform for jumping and possession can allow some rapid movement and jump forwards on the hands of someone who knows what they're doing?

Too bad this shit is Miyamoto's favorite now. He basically wants every Mario game to be "NSMB, but with this new gimmick."

Still spilling your spaghetti over OP's post like that makes you look like a tool.

The gameplay was peaked in World. The problem is that they fell for he SMB3 is the best meme and made NSMB series based on that instead.

Yes, we surely need a greedier and more realistic palette to fucking bing bing wahoo

I am talking about the main mechanic in the game which is hat swapping. You can only do 1 THING WITH ONE ENEMY AT A TIME SO THE GAME IS ONLY GOING TO BE ADVANCED AS THE ONE ENEMY. If it had mario 64 plus odyssey MECHANICS it would be better.

The fact that we haven't had a 2D mario game with in-game visuals that look cartoony like this still breaks my heart. I know the soulless BAH BAH 3D models are much easier to work with, but still. Nintendo have done crazier things

Attached: super_mario_3d_land_by_pinkietherapper_tcu_d5q6jwg-pre.jpg (1000x799, 202K)

I agree. Everything looks like wax and the color palette is sterile.

Here's your gritty and realistic Mario.

Attached: smo486.png (1920x1080, 1.49M)

Sure because 1000 long jumps in a row is good gameplay. Honestly, I don't even remember the jumping mechanics being a huge deal in 64 outside of the bowser stages and some sub areas, a whole bunch of that game was exploring the large variety of worlds and figuring out where to find all the secrets in them.

Odyssey in fact has way more examples of its core mechanics used in multiple areas just because the levels are so much bigger, and many sub-areas force you to go through them capless, and those areas are way more fluid then they were in 64 due to the vast expansion to Mario's moveset. And if you just like to do long jumps in a row there's a moon in the Darker side that's just that. Honestly not sure if this is bait or if you just have bad English.

I legit still have no idea what you're talking about, all the original mechanics of SM64 are in Odyssey, along with enemies and a means to fight them or control them.

It's the same thing as Galaxy, you just have added options. The only different one is Sunshine and that's due to how FLUDD works, even then you still have all of your SM64 options still.

Talk about donkey kong country and how it is superior to donkey kong neo.

Talk bout smb3 being better than all modern marios. Especially nsmb

Why don't you talk about those things like i pointed out instead of looking at me

>tfw Mario is actually a sequel to Castlevania and King Boo is actually Dracula

I skip any level with this or 3D World themes

This. Every classic mario game invented new characters, enemies, and bosses up until around the N64 era where most of the assets began to be recycled conceptually from previous games.

What? You do at max maybe 2 long jumps in all of SM64, both of which are completely optional. All the games still have platforming.

I loved this kingdom. It was such a weird aside and the boss was fun.

Please keep your MMO shit out of single player franchises, thanks.

Maybe because it had finally found its identity at that point? Even then N64 added new bosses and characters. Sunshine added new bosses and characters. Galaxy added new bosses and characters. Odyssey added new bosses and characters.

Hell even the 3D games add some variations of previous bosses or new mechanics to them, and we still get side games like Paper and M&L.

Fuck dark souls.

No, we have enough battle royales.

i miss blue thwomps bros

>Talk about donkey kong country and how it is superior to donkey kong neo.
It is not nigger. Returns was a really good "return" to the trilogy gameplay wise. The only issue is all the white washing in the color values that make them seem "soulless" then the original 3 games. That's just a visual issue, not a gameplay issue at all. I quite enjoyed Returns and would have that over Konga Beat or any other shit tier Wiimote gimmick shit.

>Talk bout smb3 being better than all modern marios. Especially nsmb
It's not, it's just as good as SMB3 spefically, because that's what it's based on. It's inferior to World, but it's identicle to SMB3, just with Modern Mario renders instead of 2D sprites. If it was using 2D sprites I bet you wouldn't even make this shit thread.

Also, stop posting like a Reddit nigger.

The content that was added in those games was minuscule compared to previous ones and you know it. The vast majority of enemies in 64, for example, can be found in Mario 3 alone. Same with Galaxy.

Sorry that you’re too immature to acknowledge a simple fact because it triggers your fanboyism.

I actually agree with you but it's too late for anything to be done

This shitty Adobe illustrator plastic wrap art style is the official "new" mario look. Each game in the "new" franchise sold like hotcakes so now Nintendo thinks this is the optimal art style going forward.

Let's face it, unique art styles were a bygone luxury that did not survive the current era.

Attached: 1562727697785.png (220x410, 186K)

Your argument was that they didn't add new bosses and characters, to which I said they did, how is that fanboyism?

Also if we're going to argue that then we can say that World/3 didn't change much of anything between their enemies/bosses/etc. and that that makes one or the other bad by your logic.

Besides the games do add new stuff, yeah admittedly over time they've stayed with a set of enemies and bosses that are traditional to the series and only added in new stuff every so often, but there is definitely a lot of new stuff int he 3D Mainline Console games to say there is a lot going on even still.

You can argue this point with a lot of series in terms of basic enemy design because a lot of enemies are iconic to said series, especially after it's been around for so long, of course the earlier entries would be a tad more diverse in their creative landscapes due to not having that many enemies in the first place, especially back during the NES/SNES era. Honestly your argument is pretty poor overall.

I don't want it ultra realistic or even realistic at all I just want it to look less like Puyo Puyo and more like Mario 64

The new games look like SM64 just better. I swear all y'all need glasses.

People really need to drop that "90s box art" bias you faggots keep asking for. They looked like shit.

This, Bowser looked more like a weird goblin from some shit 90s game than he ever did before or after, Mario still looks like Mario he's just more lean rather than a weird dumpy fatass (he's still a fatass tho), and everything else is pretty much spot on with how it's looked for 25 years, rather than say Bullies.

Yea Forums will never be satisfied unless every game specifically caters to their entitled whims, their dunnimg kruger complexes, fuck everyone else, the game has to be made for me and me alone.

Nigger if you ever say that shit to me in public I will end you.

This game is so fun. I didn't get that far in it but one of these days I want to play it all.

The kick isn't in Odyssey.

Dorrie's 64 design was better than his NSMB design.

I've hated the mario art style since the beginning
its bland shit that keeps getting worse and worse

>ctrl f
>no Yoichi Kotabe

I really want a 2D Mario game in his style/drawn by him.

Attached: DiQYXd6X4AUep5U.jpg (1024x575, 156K)

Not him, but the kick is fucking useless, its a worthless attack, who cares? Oh no, muh kick gone, mario bad now.

I can't be the only one that prefers New Super Mario Bros Wii over New Super Mario Bros U right?

2D Mario needs a Mania treatment. They already push for nostalgia as is, why not go all out?

Attached: 1465478884502.png (1824x2881, 1.88M)

even super mario maker 2 lacks beach/mountain/volcano themes

Maker is...redundant.
They need to go full-on original and make a 2D title from scratch. I'm wondering if Tezuka is still trying to make that 2D title he mentioned after Maker 1 dropped.

You guys are complaining about an artstyle that stopped getting actual full games since 2013
