prologue is the hardest part of the game. later on, use shockwave, chips that regen health from kills and doing damage, and always carry a shit load of health items. by the time you get to route B it should be pretty easy to stay alive.

Nocturne did it ok. You have normal mode but if for some reason you wish to suffer then you can do hard mode to get your anus bleeding. No special rewards or anything for hard mode, just the game pushing your shit on at every step of the way. Hard mode is legit hard, enemies get new attacks and tactics sometimes (Mot being the poplar example where he can literally pull turns out of his ass forever where on normal it is limited) You could die on the tutorial if you get a few bad crits with literal no chance to defend/survive as you are unable to level at that point.

GBA Fire Emblems did it ok, yes, enemies have better stats and stuff but the game rolls hit once instead of twice, making enemies that have 20 hit and 1 crit you and making you miss with 98 hit.
Also, enemies that become allies also have better stats so it's not COMPLETELY one-sided
