The Genesis had less "top tier" games than the SNES had, but it had a far more robust library of good games overall. Outside of the "big" games on the SNES that everyone loves like SMW, LttP, SM, CT, FFVI, etc., the SNES had a pretty shit library.

Also, Ristar, MUSHA, the Thunderforce games, the Shinobi games, the GoldenAxe games, the Streets of Rage series, the Shining Force games, Road Rash, Gley Lancer, Phantasy Star IV, Rocket Knight, Pulseman, Alien Soldier, the Vectorman games, ToeJam and Earl, Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes, Castlevania Bloodlines, Comix Zone, and this one cool game where you're a robot that can transform into a motorcycle that I forgot the name of.

Something about the original Columns music and aesthetic always puts me in a contemplative mood while I'm playing it. It's like a philosophical tetris or something.

Thanks a ton, you guys. I always want to replay that game and I always forget the fucking name.

I fucking despise Genesis but even I have to admit that Castlevania Bloodlines is better than Castlevania 4 or Dracula X. Most of the Konami games on Genesis are great.

Sonic games suck tho.

Why?

Shadowrun

Ghouls and Ghosts. Batman and Robin Adventures.

Sonic is shit, gunstar heroes is the only good game on the genesis

You need to play more sega genesis games, so you can make a bigger list of "games better than sonic on the genesis".

flicky was repetitive but fun

tiny toon was also really good

didn't play much else besides these family safe pixel trash, all racing games looked garbage due to the hardware, and games that looked more realistic were ugly as sin, gameplay was also bad

>genghis khan
It's pretty bad though

Also NHL '95, Mickey's Great Circus Mystery/Castle of Illusion or whatever the fuck. But this game right here brings back many memories of watching my dad play.

it had crafting (potion brewing) mechanics that would unlock shitton of neat stuff

i'll agree it didn't age well, but it wasa complex, but amazingly accessible turn-based strategy w/ lots of attention to diplomacy, economy and war mechanics

I think this sums up things pretty well. SNES had some literal revolutionary or genre foundational titles, just really polished and solid games but outside of the main publishers your game count starts dropping for solid titles. Genesis had a few on par titles but most of the the solid lineup are great but have this kind of odd jank feel to them that stop them from being perfect. It also had a larger lineup of niche genres and really Japanese style games. I got a physical collection of every good, niche, unique or anime shit game on both SNES and Genesis and Genesis does top off my SNES collection by a decent margin.

Once you start adding Super Famicom and Megadrive to the numbers it starts to even out a bit more.

>I got a physical collection of every good, niche, unique or anime shit game on both SNES and Genesis and Genesis does top off my SNES collection by a decent margin.
The Genesis is so much more of a joy to collect/buy physical copies for, because every worthwhile SNES game is hounded after by collectors and costs an absolute fuckton. By contrast, you can pick up tons of Genesis games for cheap, and the consoles and controllers are cheap as dirt, too. I wouldn't be surprised if SNESes were going for $100-150 on Ebay these days.

Nah.

Do we think the sega megadrive classic will be easy to hack and put more games on? Yes I know pc is easier. But I want to buy it for my normie older brother whos not good with computers.

Hello you seemed to ignore my post

It was a sight to behold on a Genesis back in the day, and had great atmosphere. But, compared to other offerings on the PC, it's aged like milk. Still, worth picking up if you plan on gaming on the actual hardware, you'll get a better sense of why people remember it fondly.

user didn't we have this same exact thread last week? There's plenty of good games on the genesis as many mentioned in this thread, but if you honestly think Sonic's still the only good on the console after trying all of them then I just don't know what to tell you, especially it'd be the same as saying Mario is the only good game on the SNES.

Also known as Soleil or Ragnacenty, I think. At least I remember finding it under all three of those names.

I sold an complete copy of that for 150€ last year.

Castlevania Bloodlines

Yeah, not that user but the version of it I originally played and like best is Soleil (european version), especially since it has a more accurate translation compared to the american version (Crusader of Centy) . Ragnacenty is the original jp game name.

Spoken like a shit that knows nothing. Games like Contra 3, Super R-Type, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Demon's Crest, Final Fight 2 and 3 among many others are also good and aren't talked about nearly as much as those classics you refer to. Both consoles were good but SNES had the better games.

Of course there are good games outside of the "classics", but they're still far fewer on the SNES compared to the Genesis. For every good game on the SNES, you can name 10 on the Genesis. Conversely, for every "masterpiece" game on the Genesis, you can name 10 on the SNES.

Will the mini be easy to put more games on like the snes mini was?

Most of those are the worst titles in their series. Why play Metroid when 2, Super, Zero Mission, Fusion exists? Why play Castlevania when 3, 4, Bloodlines, Dracula X exists?

This game is really hard to complete if you don’t use the shortcuts. Loved it though, each powerup is pretty cool

Golden Axe II - 02 - Ravaged Village

that should do it for now.

When you had a decent sound engineer the Genesis sound chip blew the snes's out the water, I had way more base and oompf.

oops, forgot one more

It’s clunky as shit, you need to jump and strike on descending to even hit a lot of the enemies

I genuinely think this is one of the best stand alone games ever made. Shame about the sequels.

Rocket Knight Adventures is the Mega Drive game for me.
Others already said a bunch of games, but to remind that in that era MD had great Disney games be Mickey, Donald or movies ones(like Alladin). Also games like Toy Story(had a better ost in the MD version) or something like Road Rash or Micromachines(Military was best one)

Came here to post these.

Streets of Rage 1 and Phantasy Star 1 and 2 are assy though.

Why do snes and megadrive hold up better than ps1 and n64 games?

Heh, no way, kid.

far more games that run at 60fpsunless you're a eurocuck and more timeless art direction.

neither were gimmick consoles, had decent lifespans and both have an extremely solid selection of games

also not having to worry about primitive camera control and less hand holding.

OP here. I just want to say I was only pretending to hate the Genesis to encourage discussion.

no backsies

Soleil
Landstalker

Hey hey, i enjoyed the Sonic's pal versions of the osts. I also enjoyed having a MD that was free region and a cartridge that could read japanese games(thanks DBZfighting game)

Since this thread seems to have knowledgeable Sega fans in it, maybe you can help me out.
I remember a side scrolling genesis game where you piloted a mech, that looked kind of like the robot in RoboCop, iirc. If you took too much damage, you had to play on foot as a little guy with a gun until the next level. The first level was a ghetto looking city. I remember being able to go down into sewers and on top of rooves well.
I've looked for ages and nada. To the point I wonder if I dreamed it or it was on another system.

Why is Contra 3 so shit compared to this?

Sounds like E-Swat

E Swat?

Blaster Master 2?

>You can't

ristar is my favorite 2D platformer

It definitely sounds like e-swat

ironically, blast processing (tons of sprites and fast rendered scrolling - weak CPU was SNES's major drawback)

A classic. One of the best two player games ever made, and one of the most crminally underrated games of the 16 bit era.

maybe your brain fucked up remembering Fatal Rewind, it has an ED-209 looking robot that you pilot.

Quackshot was pretty dope.

to be fair that game has a bit of a learning curve, especially if you don't have a manual.

Thanks guys, I think this is it.

I actually played this as well, or the original on NES, and was conflating the two. So also appreciated.
