The days of Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 4, Quake, StarCraft and all manner of other legitimately amazing games is long over. I tried to stick with it for awhile. I hoped it was a rough patch and that things would get better, but I've given up. It normalized paid online (despite the servers still being shit). DLC is so big now that every game is bamboozling people with $30 season passes that rarely if ever have content worth playing. DLC also led towards normalizing live services which the mobile market turned into absolute cancer.

We've lost most of the best devs of the industry and now we're relying on young kids who have grown up in this wretched system to make Vidya while being increasingly pressured by sales goals and the fact that they're completely expendable. I feel like the people being involved in Vidya now lack the creative spark and willpower of the early generations that had to make something from nothing. I only really see that amount of fun and passion from indie devs now.

Last time I spoke to a dev (he worked on AC Odyssey) he said it was the worst job he's ever had and he was leaving for a contractor who offered almost double his current pay.

This, one day I visited my best friend and told me he and other friends downloaded it and were playing right now, so he handed me the controller and play for half an hour. Never understood it. We also play CS 1.6 and overall Fortnite just seemed like a slower game with no reward for your effort. In the 15 minutes it took me to run around and get killed I could have played 10 fy-poolday matches and each of them would have had more fun and adrenaline in 30 seconds that in the entirety of that fortnite session.

When LAN parties were still a thing, like 8 of my friends got together to play Counter-Strike and Warcraft 2. One kid used the entire weekend to do shit in games you described. When we mentioned how weird it was and that he should play CS with us instead of basically torturing data, he didn't want to. 4th gen added in mounting and a couple extremely powerful weapons that imo go contrary to what MH should be about (charge blade and insect glaive), they give you insane mobility and the ability to fly around or the ability to cancel shit into autoblocks and it's turned the series from something slow and predictive, as mentioned before, into basically DMC-lite, fast and reactive with no dedication to your actions, X/XX and World took it further in that direction and turned basically every weapon into that kind of thing, and in World's case, added in even more things that got away from what I want, ie. letting you restock everything you want at a camp instead of having to bring everything with you when you set out and prepare.
It all adds up until the only way to make a fight actually hard for the player is to give enemies insane aoe attacks like something out of an MMO fight (which is exactly what Behemoth is), and it makes for horrible game design and balance, it makes the games not very fun to play
