OoE was one of my favorite igavanias but I never replayed it. I had a lot of fun with it, but I remember it being fairly tedious at times, and the level design left a lot to be desired. I feel that I enjoyed bloodstained more, but the one thing I'm sure of is that Shanoa is the supreior waifu. She had a 10/10 design.

How so? I thought it was good. My problem with the endgame is that it doesn't change the trend of the inverted difficulty curve the game has, the difficulty should have at least picked up a little, but it didn't, it's just a constant downward slope.

I never saw the rank of any of my shards increase. I assumed rank was tied to grade milestones or how many times you use the shard or something.

the rank description specifies what happens when you rank up.
grade up only increases the power of its original effect.

take bunny form as an example:

The game literally gives you the base drop rates and you can calculate the final value with bonuses from there. I am in no way exaggerating and had a very fast farming setup. You're lucky to not have crashes and lucky to get drops easily.

I mean, Dominique literally doesn't even have a playable model yet. It defaults to Miriam when the hacker tried using Dom, but leaves her unable to change any equipment since Dom doesn't have that option.

I remember finishing CotM and starting HoD immediately after and the music + graphics disappointed me so much that I put it down after less than an hour and didn't touch it again for about fifteen years when I finally finished it and thought it was by far the most boring game in the series. It's the very definition of soulless.

It was much better in prealpha stages when it was all handdrawn, however I would agree the game looks great.

It is my hope they will polish the models. The game has some texture issues and it ticks me off the moment I start paying attention.

It was never gonna be handdrawn or sprites, that was simply an example of what the game would look like.

Personally, if I kept getting a game over screen after beating the "final" boss I would explore every nook and cranny of the map, which is what I did after killing him the first time.
I got lucky that the second time through the broken room I got the shard that tells you it allows you to swim in water.
If I hadn't gotten that, I would have killed everything I found so far to get their shards so I can explore a section of the map that I could see but not really do anything in.
I guess it is odd in that it is from a random enemy and not a boss but even in the beginning of the game you are shown you need a nonboss shard(though that one was guaranteed) to open the door with the cannon so it is kinda already in game that these might also be useful.

I haven't been keeping up until recently but the greatest difference between pre-alpha and current versions is the amount of lighting. The older versions look more gothic horror and probably appeal to older Castlevania fans who have a taste for grimmer, darker environments. Ironically, I prefer older style late 80s-90s Nip animation styles as opposed to recent trends. Maybe my brain loves the shininess and colors despite finding shit like Violet Evergarden disgusting.

I don't understand how this is still a thing. The game was ALWAYS going to be 2.5D. It said that on the Kickstarter from Day One.

That said, I will say that I'm disappointed with how the Character shaders turned out. I recall this one winning out on the poll a million years ago but the end result certainly isn't this. I know the game went through a ton of revisions after this but I loved the very colorful, defined look of this shader and I wish it made it into the final product.

Why? Farming Flame Mail from the Fire Morte's is faster. They only have two drops (Demon Bone and Fire Mail compared to water horse's three drops) and by the time you make it to the water horse you can kill fire morte two times. You'll need more Alkahest overall but money dupe makes that irrelevant. And even if you don't have the money farming flame mail and alkahest is easier than farming the weapon water horse drops.

It winds up being pretty similar in terms of drop rate, at least in my anecdotal experience, but I won't claim that's any subjective metric.

As far as I can tell this doesn't impact something, since a monster can drop every single item in its drop table all at once if the player gets lucky enough. It seems like when a monster dies each item in its drop pool rolls against the player's luck, and each one has a chance of succeeding and giving the player the drop individually, just from the same 'dropped' item bag. Like how the Flytrap Moco Leaf things can drop four items simultaneously, and they do commonly with good luck.

I personally found the water horses first, and I find them less annoying to kill, since the lava in the fire morte area makes me feel the need to wear Aegis Plate. I also just plain find water horses kind of fun to farm so I like that more, since I speed around almost as fast as Accelerator with maxed Aqua Stream, and if I direct that at an enemy instead of using it purely as a propeller, then said enemy dies within microseconds due to the multiple water hits. I stream in, swirl the water stream around to the horse, it instadies, my Detective Eye skill shard loots the items, and I jet right back out and right back in to repeat. I can get about four gold through four Ayamur drops within five minutes doing this. Still, I only needed one, like everyone else. Alkahest that and then just buy it with coins from Dominique, or Alchemic Bounty bullshit myself some gold by making and disassembling Gold Platemail, or whatever it's called.

I've been there, had a good high school romance then mutually called it off, then found the love of my life at 20 and lost her by the time I was 22. That game made me really want a disco greece setting, flashing lights against marble statues is surprisingly aesthetic.

Mostly, but it goes a little deeper than that might imply given that some items have unique features. For example, I might recommend stacking Words of Wisdom with itself as both the player's main Passive shard and an always-equipped Skill Shard if they chose to run a mage build, but I wouldn't recommend that if they already have Gebel's Glasses and want to use those instead of, say, Warlock's Necklace + Curse Ring. There's a lot of caveats like that.

Yeah, that felt dumb to me. It's not like the player is forced to ever utilize even their first Shortcut if they just prefer to swap around gear in the menu and not make dedicated situational sets.

I mean, your second playthrough only takes a couple hours and you max Shortcut long before it's finished and you'll start that playthrough with five available shortcut slots.

You can use that technique with any weapon of the same class. Katana becomes a fightan game when all techniques are mastered.

Once all techniques are mastered, the Valkyrie Sword gets a secret technique that lets you do the Counter Helm Splitter without having to do a counter.

It's based on hit, not kill, so usually it's not too bad. I grinded them as I played by basically doing exclusively techniques whenever viable.

That said, you can wait till endgame. Slight shard spoilers: You get a time stop shard which you can use to just freeze an enemy and beat on them until a technique is mastered. OD also has books that speed up Mastery. The shard is very endgame though.
