Most Japanese don't think being trans is a thing, they are basically incapable of making a trans character that isn't a joke or an insult in some way. Erica WAS a great portrayal in the original game, somehow she slipped through the cracks and managed to not be portrayed as an okama or otherwise delusional man, then Full Body came out and fucked it all up. It's actually not that hard to make a decent trans character, but it can be nearly impossible at times to appease every single trans person because honestly there aren't many of them and they don't all feel the same way about everything.
