It took me several months of grinding on and off to beat Flandre for the first time, but at that point I was decently good at the game and could beat most extras with a little bit (sometimes a lot) of effort.

Learning patterns is one thing but if you dont have reasonably high reaction speed its going to increase the failure rate making progress too slow.

My reaction speed is notably slower than average (about 0.32 seconds, compared to 0.25 seconds average), but it is still enough to clear your average Touhou game on normal. If you know what to look for, most patterns don't require insane reaction speeds.

The average difficulty of combat is easy except for jevil and sans which take hundreds of tries. The combat is mostly there so you can listen to the boss themes.

I find it faster to move in general with a d-pad. The arrow keys felt awkward to use, so I switched to numpad which I found much better to use, but now a controller makes even more of a difference for me. Makes me wonder if I should buy an arcade stick, might play even better then.

Juuni Jumon, it has interesting spell cards, two Extra stages and unlockable Last Words (and spell practice) but the stages are way too long and the game is really fucking hard. I have yet to see anyone 1cc it on Lunatic.
