Arguably every Rune Factory game, as the 'main' heroine (Mist, whoever the second one was, Shara) is usually less appealing than at least one of the others. Especially RF3, where Raven was much more popular.

Depends on "who" the main character is, kinda. Kyo is the protagonist, but he (and everyone else) loses out to Iori. K' was so popular in Japan upon release that SNK almost made him the new protag of KoF games. Then you got the Fatal Fury picks like Terry, Geese, Mai, and Kim, many of who are more popular than Kyo.

Was Iori not also a main character? He was the Sasuke to Kyo's Naruto.

I didn't realize that K' was so popular. I thought he was cool but I actually really like Kyo. Terry is also ostensibly a 'main character' in my mind. I'd give you Kim and Mai though.
