What is the point of Lulu as a character, other than having a black mage in this game?
She has the weakest backstory out of all the characters. Or rather, she has no backstory at all other than "was supposed to marry Chappu".
She also barely interacts with the other characters, e.g. Kimahri, Auron, Rikku.
And while every character has some kind of story-related raison d'être - Wakka being a blitzball player, Rikku being Al-Bhed who want to kidnap the summoners, Auron being Braska's former guardian, etc. - Lulu has no such thing.
If humans and al-bhed are different races, would rikku be able to get pregnant from a human, or can she only get pregnant from an al-bhed?

She exists to teach Tidus about Spira in the first portion of the game. Once you get past like, Luca or something, you don't really hear from her much. Oddly enough that's around the time that Yuna begins to outclass her as a black mage. It's a real shame too; Her design is one of my favorites.

She's there as the one more experienced about Spira to help fill in Tidus, as well as being the older sister of the group and a former guardian herself. Also fills the role as the straight woman and skeptic.

Lulu is important for her interactions with the rest of the party than anything central to her.
She teaches Tidus about basic shit in Spira better than Wakka or Yuna could. She can act basically like Yuna's big sister and comfort her and such better than others could. She acts like the straight man to Wakka and has conversations with him that explain their backstory and motivations to the player better than the game could without her.
I thought Wakka only went with the pilgrimage partially and was more focused on blitzballl, not a real guardian?

I'm pretty sure it's because Yuna's default path has a ton more Magic boosts for healing while Lulu's is more focused on Magic Defence since she can take advantage of weaknesses anyway, so you can always grab the spells and move her over there in between. Or put her on Auron's path and make her the milk tank.
I disagree. I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all PROVIDED its not done, like, just a week after or something like that.

i was gonna try and argue that Wakka is looking after Lulu to honor his brother or something, but then I remembered he knocks her up in X-2 and all I could think about was Wakka screaming "THIS ONE'S FOR YOU CHAPPU" as he pumps his seed deep into Lulu's womb.
Plus she becomes obsolete as soon as Yuna learns black magic

Lulu is the mother figure to Yuna and is the only character providing conflicting feelings about the journey.
Lulu sees Yuna as her daughter and can't even think of the sacrifice needed, but at the same time knows the sacrifice will save so many others.
