I played Witcher 1 before reading the books. You can do that as well. It works since Geralt is supposed to have amnesia. Sure some references go over your head but it's not that bad.

The books were pretty short compared to your average fantasy novels, and actually decent.
The way it ended was a giant "fuck you i'm tired of writing this series" though.

Listen to them on audio. The reader goes above and beyond. Excellent way to cut down on boring drives.

The Witcher 2/3 is widely accepted to be dumbed down entries catering to the masses (like Mass Effect 2/3).

2x speed bro, get some wireless headphone and you can listen faster than you can read without your eyes or hands being involved. It's all the benefits of speedreading like an autist and you don't have to hold a book in front of your face the whole time allowing you to do some sort of manual task while listening such as, driving, cooking/eating, sewing your old clothes, knife sharpening, painting, whittling, grinding in RPGs, all while listening and appreciating the text. So long as it isn't something that involves the language processing center of your brain you're total fine.

People who actually read books by eye and hand just aren't very good at managing their time.

In the original Polish they're great, Sapkowski is really clever and it comes through in his writing. English translation is rather perfunctory and looses all the charming wit of the original.
