I haven't played Dickplomacy, so I really couldn't tell.
What I will mention though is that for the first hour or so (depending on how hard you influence the map and the survival of other factions by your own fighting), you will get diplomacy popups like ever 1 or 2 minutes because there's like 15 or so starting factions that constantly declare war or peace with one another.
It get far better after some playing though because the weaker factions tend to get eliminated rather quick.

recently started playing this mod again, but this time I'm on 110% difficulty, and for a good while, I was getting raped by everyone. Became a vassal for Tolrania, as I did last time, but instead of holding back the flood of Zann, and saving the kingdom, we got fuckin' floored. We were pushed back, by fighting a war on 4 fronts, and were left with only the city of Galwe, where I then went off to capture the nearby Anlux castle. Torlian, being the fat fuck he is, never left Galwe's endless feast, and tried to give himself the castle, so I broke my oath and declared independence.
We were at peace with the Zann at the time, who owned Lesbere. Luckily enough, they had a slave trader whom I could fill my army relatively cheaply with, and get all 200-some slaves into being gladiators within an ingame day. Managed to hold off the small Tolranian army, and the slightly bigger Maccavian army, that also had one city, but like, 6 castles or something. My constantly-restoring garrison of 1,000 gladiators and a handful of competent archers between sieges managed to fight off both armies, and the next like, 3 sieges. I took some of the Maccavian castles, made peace with Tolrania, because I didn't have enough men to assault Galwe yet. Gave some castles to a few of my companions, and prepared to march upon Maccan, but we got peace instead, which was a relief for me.
I wanted to take that time to take part in some more tournaments, get some extra cash flowing in from more dyeworks (I already had 12). Two days into this, just as I'm about to reach the first peacetime tournament, the fuckin' Reich declares war on me. But by this time, all of my castles have about 200 elven archers, and we're able to hold them off pretty well. Kick the shit out of them, take some castles, besieged Murdenholl for 3 ingame days, defeating 5 lords who tried to intervene. This gets me a treaty with the Valahir Clan, and another war with Maccavia.

the orange guys, the elves and the blue guys have most of the map by now, with 2 or 3 minor factions (especially dwarves) holding on to their shit in their respective corners.
what is going to happen when the zen guys invade, will the other factions make peace with each other for that time being or is the player supposed to have conquered the map by then in order to kill the invaders on their own?

I believe they're set to come on day 150, by default.
They will come in a massive force, performing a blitzkrieg on the entire coast. They've been eerily dormant for the past 100 days or so, for me though, after the elves kicked them out of their lands, and took over 1/3rd of the world.
Elves and Tolranians make peace, to try and fight them off, but unless you are strong enough to hold off an army of 7000 at Leuven, Tolrania will most likely fall. I was not.
Dwarves seem to be totally immune to invasion, but haven't conquered anyone themselves.
I don't think Maccavia or the Reich tried for peace, as they were still tag-teaming Tolrania with the Zann, while being raped by the Zann themselves, mind you.
