From legal perspective, is it ok to emulate games on your PC if you have original versions of them?
From legal perspective, is it ok to emulate games on your PC if you have original versions of them?
only if the emulator doesn't have any IP (bios, firmware, OS) from the console manufacturers
Thanks lad.
Why should you need to pay for it every time you emulate? Also is there any reason to emulate it over playing the version you have already?
Who gives a shit
>muh poor billion dollar companies
It's ok to emulate. Period.
Why the fuck do you care? Just play whatever you want, dude.
Yes. Modern emulators give you plenty of options unavailable on original hardware.
Just curious.
No is not, you paid for one copy to play in one specific console. That's why you need to buy the same game again when gets released in another console
Nintendo officially said no, it isn't legal
not if you ask nintendo though. Even if you ask nicely
this is completely correct

Legally speaking, it's only OK to own copies that you made from games that you own legally. Owning a legal copy lets you at least try to claim that the ROM you have was made by you. It's not like they can source it or anything.
>copies that you made
user it's called "copyright" for a reason
And copyright laws allow you to make a personal, non-distributable backup of a legally-purchased copy. That's what the ROM/ISO is, allegedly.
These are all bogus arguments. It's hilarious, a college student would get burned using the reasoning they're using.
Sounds more like a autistic butthurt manchild wrote this
>''REEEEEEEE ITS ILLEGAL REEEE ITS NOT OPEN TO DEBATE''
The legal precedents in the US say otherwise.
They don't give good reasons for not allowing it, they are just saying that it's not allowed because they say so.
It's okay to emulate but only if you delete the roms before the initial 24 hour trial period
Nintendo can kiss my butt
Pretty sure that's shareware
Nintendo doesn't like it but according to US law it's legal.
ゲームソフトを権利者の許諾なく、 インターネットを通じて配信、配布することは 著作権法第113条第1項に反する違法行為 です。

Good thing congress writes the laws and not Nintendo.
Go away Shigeru
>Posts jap on an english board.
fucking at least use the "googer transrate"
Nintendo says that private ROM use is okay
Probably not, but it's not going to stop anyone.
Yes. It’s even ok if you use the console’s bios as long as you ripped it yourself from a console you own, at least in the US. Still illegal to download roms.
>People literally posted official statements from Nintendo in this thread where they state it isn't legal
Uh...
the internet fucked a lot of people out of good business opportunities
good for the consumer
bad for business
Idc about what Nintendo says.
You should feel morally obligated to pirate everything from Nintendo.
Emulation is only a crime unto yourself.
>Also is there any reason to emulate it over playing the version you have already?
physical copies and hardware can break.
Ok bro.
Nintendo will never admit.
Even if it's legal, they have no reason to say it's legal.
Nintendo doesn't have any say on whether something is legal or not
Yes
they're not wrong it's likely that downloading illegally shared ROMs is not legal even if you own the game, though there has literally never been someone taken to count over a ROM downloaded game so it's illegal in a rather harmless way, though your internet provider could take away your internet if they see you downloading a large amount of ROMs, though that is easily avoidable with VPN.
Now if Nintendo feels this way 100%, why don't they just put more of their old games on their digital platforms?
Someone educate me on this
