I don't beat my pets so that doesn't happen. My dogs and cats usually walk up to me, wanting to be pet when I look at them. If your dog looks away from you then you probably aren't treating it well.

Look at your dog directly in the eyes for a minute and show your teeth. If your dog doesn't look away then it means your dog doesn't view you as the leader of the "pack" which is not a good thing.
