Just started on sunday and i hit level 25 today. having alot of fun and decided to by the starter edition.

Why do people say the stories in this are such a drag? It's kept me pretty entertained throughout my leveling process. At worst it's par for the course for an MMO. But i honestly enjoy it. Though i will skip most cut scenes if they seem useless. Should i wait until i hit level 50 to pull the trigger on buying shadowbringers? The thing everyone complains about is the quests you get after you finish the A Realm Reborn storyline at level 50, there are like 120 of them and a lot of them are filler shit. The actual story ones are still good though, there's just a lot of random diversions to go sniff chocobos along the way and it needs some pruning

You're coming up on a stretch of quests (up to 35) that are universally agreed to be one of the worst parts of the game. It picks up a bit after that until the 2.x content which is also a slog, but it's smooth sailing once you hit 3.0.
But if you're enjoying yourself so far then you should be fine.

I enjoy dancer.
Gameplay they're almost entirely proc based. You pretty much just do a 1-2 combo over and over and hit any procs that come up, use dances on cooldown, and try to make sure you have 4 feathers up when you use technical step/bedevilment for burst. They have a nice flow to them IMO and I like the dance mechanic, if feels like a more fun version of the Ninja's ninjitsu mechanic

The really bad drag happens at 2.1 where you have a 100 quests of worthless filler and pure tedium until you finally hit heavensward. Then heavensward ends and you get into stormblood and nothing of actual consequence actually happens for the entire expansion. Then you get to shadowbringers and it's the absolute best story the game has ever produced. Pay attention to crystal tower cutscenes. It will be better fresh in your mind compared to everyone else who only saw that shit years ago or skipped it entirely.

Yes, with cooldowns. Opposition barely helps anything, Synastry helps with the Benefics some, Intersection is a nice little boost but helps for like 1 second, Lightspeed and Swiftcast id like to use for the Gravitys if I can help it, Sometimes I dont even think Aspected Benefics Regen even helps at all unless i use Neutral with it. Its a ton of buttons to get a decent buffer to do some damage. Then to add Sleeve Draw on that, its way too much for still having the worst DPS in the game even if i got it all out.

You can have every class in the game at the same time with no downside. Also having a higher character level gives a passive EXP boost to all other classes (so if you have a level 50 PLD and become a level 1 Pugilist, you get an EXP bonus to your Pugilist)

90% of mechanics are self-explanatory or at least very apparent after failing them, but are sometimes hard to put together. Guides are mostly useful so you have an idea of what everything does, and to provide strategies to deal with the one tricky mechanic or dance each fight.

When you start the Titan quest you will know why, they drag on for too long, this is the point where most new players just quit. Trust me, I'm a big fan but this felt like an unnecessary drag for me, just keep going, you will never see something as bad again.

here's the secret to raids (and most co-op vidya), they're only fun if you actually enjoy your group's company

MCH is currently my favourite job but the one thing i'd change is make air anchor/drill unaffected by skill speed (but still on the GCD). With other jobs if you clip a little because of high ping then you can get a slight amount of extra skill speed so your rotation lines up around your cooldowns appropriately, however you can't do this with MCH since two of their big cooldowns you play around are also reduced.

One is for the front tail, obviously.

Tank one looks okay. Rest are underwhelming. If we get capped tomes as well hopefully that gear looks better.

Yes, SCH became boring as fuck to me thanks to the changes so I rather play AST, it let's me think somewhat ahead rather then press 1.1.1.1 with Bio in between when nothing is going on.
And while yes cards have all turned into a weaker balance you still need to put some thought into who to give cards to because if you give the wrong class a card they only get an 3% dmg increase rather then 6%.

Make it give 1 heat per second. Right now, flamethrower is for being lazy, and in reality a dps lose as spread shot gives heat, you have to stand still, and will do less damage as well overall. I find myself never using it, as the moment I do on a big mob that is pulled, an AOE comes at me.

The only question you should be asking yourself is do you have fun playing it. The rest doesn't matter. No job other than blue mage is useless.

If it was just 5 heat every 2 seconds so it was basically the same as your other skills it would be fine. Alternatively just up the potency.

Also I find that Flamethrower often ticks 11 times, not 10, which helps it too.

it just needs more risk/reward (standing still for ten seconds is a commitment) or skill to use (precasting flamethrower on boss transitions) to make it interesting. i think ramping damage would make it fun, maybe a little extra potency in hypercharge or something

The amount of heat alone you could gain from spread shot in that time would lead to another series of crossbows/ogcds compared to the small bit of flamethrower, and chances are an AOE will hit you and cause the healer to have to heal you, causing less DPS from them as well.

You can gain maybe 25 heat from spread shot in 10 seconds. The theoretical future damage you'll get from that heat still doesn't make up for the extra dps from flamethrower. Autocrossbow is 120 potency per second, and requires 50 heat so 5 heat is worth 12 potency per second. Spreadshot is 75 potency per second so with the heat gain it's 87, still worse than Flamethrowers' 100 per second.

If all your other stuff is on cooldown and you won't get a hypercharge in that time there's no reason not to use flamethrower.

It's 180 from autocrossbow, not 120.Spreadshot is also 180 as well. You're doing almost double the pot, while being able to move freely, weave in ogcds, and creating heat. Flamethrower is only not a loss if you don't have any heat or everything else is on CD, which is not too often.

Spreadshit is 180 potency every ~2.4 seconds i.e. 75 potency per second 180/2.4 = 75

Yeah, you should be checking it a lot. You just passively get used to glancing off at party list everything 5-10 seconds. Tank is priority at all times though, which you can see just by looking at what the mob/boss is targeting on your target bar and use the assist button to toggle between the two of them.
