Somebody posted in the last thread asking if they had to reinstall Windows XP or 7 to use the True Patch, but no you don't have to do that. You can just take the vampire.dll from the Unofficial Patch and put it into your Vampire folder after installing the True Patch to get it to work on Windows 10.

Some people say the Unofficial Patch basic is fine and it mostly is, but even still it makes some unnecessary changes that Wesp considers "fixes" like making all the NPCs say a random comment if you bump into them which I just find really annoying and immersion breaking because it seems unnatural. Most people probably won't notice or care though, so if it doesn't matter much to you then just go with the Unofficial Patch for ease of use.

It doesn't spoil anything. As Jack explains you don't understand your own visions. First playthrough as Malk is the best and most immersive way to experience the game.

They're pretty good. You can start with high Persuasion which unlocks most extra dialogue options, and they have Celerity which is OP for their extra powers. Just put some points into Firearms too and the game should be fairly easy.

Toreador is my personal go to. You can top up your social skills super early and celerity is one of the most useful disciplines in the game, especially when combined with firearms.

You are supposed to go Malkavian on the first playthrough. The dumb fucks (one of which I used to be myself) will tell you that the lines will only make sense if you already know the story, but the whole fucking point of Malkavian is that you can't make sense of anything. If you play Malkavian first, you're playing Malkavian, if you play it second, you're playing an inside joke.

My first playthrough was as Malk and I certainly don't feel it diminished my experience in any way. If anything, it bolstered my opinion of the game and I've since played through it countless times over the past decade. There really isn't a wrong way to play through the game despite what others may claim.

It depends. Melee is better at the start but guns are better at the end. And not all the magic is equal either. Animalism and Thaumaturgy can do a lot more damage than Dominate/Dementation overall.

It's more about how you use them. You can't use the .38 as a primary weapon, but it's useful for doing some extra damage to the bosses or few vampires you encounter early without being in range of their attacks. But you get a shotgun in the diner at one point which is really good, and can find a bunch of ammo in the warehouse. The shotgun should be good enough until you get to Hollywood which is when you get really strong guns.

You should if you really feel like it's the clan you want to play. Letting other people decide for you is stupid. More than one person has played Malk first and enjoyed it, and it's even a more unique experience than replaying one so let people play them first if they want to.

Bloodstrike + bloodshield is pretty much easy mode. Some of the late game guns also melt enemies with ease.

In case anyone wants it, here's the patch. It's just the True Patch Gold with a file from the Unofficial Patch so it works properly on Windows 7/10, and widescreen enabled by default. If you don't care about the game being as close to vanilla as possible then you don't really need to use this, but I thought I'd just share it anyway since someone was asking about how to get the True Patch working.

My first playthrough was with Malkavian. Back when the game didn't have the fan-made patch. So it was a very surreal experience, not knowing what was a bug and what wasn't.

I'm pretty sure most devs don't continue getting a share of each sale after the game is finished and their work is done. But Activision was still responsible in a big way for Troika closing so you should pirate it anyway.

First time I played this game I didn't know a single thing about it and used the character quiz and got Malkavian fem with what I can only asume were awful stats.

I wouldn't have even understood the spoilers on my first playthrough. Malkavian is totally doable on a first playthrough. It's just that doing Malkavian as a second playthrough enhances the experience, that's all.

Or, alternatively, just put a few points into some combat stats and play the game normally all the way through. It's not like the game is difficult. The only people who seem to think so are the retards who thought "I'm going to a do pacifist run and put zero points into combat skills!" even though the game tells you multiple times that's not possible and subjects you to forced combat right from the first hub. How someone could be so stupid as to get all the way to end of the game without realizing combat is kind of a major aspect of the game and is not always avoidable I cannot fathom.

one of the most effortless playthroughs i did in terms of combat.
a quick noob-friendly-tip for combat:
- santa monica -> bloodbuff + unarmed (don't put points into Str or unarmed though)
- downtown -> bloodbuff + axe + celerity(get it at least to 3) + presence (don't put points into Str or melee) sometimes the shoty and the glock for fun (stat putting points into firearms)
- starting with Hollywood you get decent guns, continue to put points into celerety/presence/firearms
- endgame - progress ranged feat so you have 10 feat w/ auspex, not 9 ... 10. 10 ranged = no recoil and makes all the difference with rifle or automatic weapons

also presence is super cool since it reduces bashing soak of enemy vampires, and firearms deal bashing damgae to them
