Atelier is a JRPG series that's been around for a couple decades and revolves primarily around in-depth crafting mechanics and cute anime girls. I'd have to see more of it but it looks sort of quick, I guess. I don't know how combat worked in Mysterious so I can't say how it is compared to more recent entries but I guess it looks fine. I'm more curious about the branching paths in the alchemy, honestly.

They've done a new mainline Atelier title every single year since 2001, with the exception of 2018, but that's being made up for by having 2 this year. Plus the side game Nelke as well.

Lulua is only a few months old, I wouldn't be surprised if Kishida and pals would still be in the planning stages for BR2 if they're even doing it at all.

You can. This franchise works in unrelated subseries so you could start in a lot of different places, and Ryza is the start of a new one. You could also start Arland with Rorona DX, Dusk with Ayesha, Mysterious with Sophie, go back and look at Iris or Mana Khemia, there's a LOT of potential starting points. To keep it simple though, you can start with Ryza. Can't tell you if that's a good idea just yet, guess we'll see when the game's out.

It might not be a bad idea to start with Dusk as it bridges old Atelier and modern Atelier. If you liked Ayesha and find Escha&Logy to be too lenient you can go backwards to Arland, while if you like Escha&Logy as they are and don't mind Shallie's lack of time limits then you can go forward to Mysterious.

Goodness, no. For one, the very first game isn't even localized. Two, Atelier works in subseries, often trilogies, so you can just jump into any of the subseries that look good really. Ryza is the start of a new one so it's potentially a good place to start. as to whether they're good or not, that depends a lot on how much you like the idea of JRPGs with cute girls, alchemy and time limits.

PS3 has the Arland and Dusk games, both of which are probably the most sensible places to start. Arland is just really popular while Dusk paves the way for the direction of the more recent games.

I tried getting into the Arland trilogy with Rorona a while back and just didn't find it all that enjoyable. It's like the devs took all of the worst things about SoL anime, concentrated into a single game, and then stretched it out to 50+ hours.

Typically you have X amount of time to accomplish a task and you spend days exploring, gathering materials and creating items. That part is basic enough but if you want to 100% these games with all character endings then you're gonna have to go full autism with it. You might want to stick closer to the more recent games if you don't like time limits. They started really moving away from them at the end of the Dusk series but it was the successor series, Mysterious, that ran with it. I'd still recommend trying Dusk first and if you're not bothered by Ayesha, which operates by giving you a few years of in-game time to accomplish your greater goal, then maybe look into Arland. I highly doubt anyone who dislikes time limits will care much for its first game, Rorona, as the limits there are actually quite tight. After that one though the series starts loosening its grip little by little.

I'm notoriously slow with games but Rorona shouldn't take 50 hours to beat. 30, sure, but 50's pushing it.
