I think if they kick him he wouldn't eat a timer, so that would be fine. I don't mind people RPing so long as they aren't imposing that shit on people who are not interested, so I'm still of mixed feelings about forcing someone on a non RP server to roleplay just because three weirdos can't summon the charm and charisma to find a fourth person to play with them.

I don't understand how people roleplay in MMOs that aren't geared towards it. It's fucking restricting and a dumb way to create stories.

Only thing that got close to a real enjoyable roleplay experience was when I joined a private WoW server like a decade ago. The gameplay was actually geared towards it (the longer you played, the more benefits you got; but in the end gear meant nothing, skills didn't do a whole lot, damage was minimal). GMs controlled NPCs during events, everyone was essentially a mook, and death was permanent if you died twice within a short span. Basically, mobs could mess your shit up if you weren't careful, so death wasn't unusual.

When I played FFXIV and watched these scrubs roleplay, it just made me miss that old server. I don't even remember what it was called, but I still got a lot of pics from my old photobucket account.

I mean, that's what we're doing already. There are a lot of roleplay servers on the official WoW servers and that's exactly how they play, WoW but with people using their imaginations and the in game mechanics to increase roleplay and immersion.

Private servers are able to take it a step further and implement new mechanics to better enforce roleplay rules and fix other mechanics of WoW that don't work with roleplay, ie currency, language barrier, etc.

Average RPer takes anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes to make a single response, this gets more complicated the more people you have trying to get words and actions in edgewise. Even if you take 20 minutes to clear the dungeon, that only leaves 70 for RP bullshit, and that's not a lot of time. 20 minutes is also very generous considering they're VERY likely gonna be walking through the place.

The weapons and mounts are too common and can be bought with tokens.
They had the right idea with Nightmare but that was back in 2.0 and they even nerfed the drop rate on that.

If things are rare enough only very few people would attempt to grind for them, but they'd be a bigger achievement as a result. There really isn't any grand trophy in XIV right now outside of Ultimate Coil weapons but they're ugly and hardly anyone wants to run it.
It would also encourage people who are trying for the extra rare items to help with clear parties.
Plenty of people would be turned off by the grind but that in itself would make the items more special.
